The USA Network has published the official press release for this coming Thursday’s episode of its hit sci-fi-ish drama series Colony. It’s titled ‘Zero Day’ and is episode nine.
Will (Josh Holloway) comes up with a plan to get his family out from under the Occupation. Throwing a wrench in his best-laid plans, Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) and Broussard (Tory Kittles) attempt to rekindle the fire of resistance by joining forces with a new cell. In a bold political move, Proxy Snyder (Peter Jacobson) fights to protect his office. Later, Maddie (Amanda Righetti) corners her boss in a precarious predicament.
The series also stars Alex Neustaedter and Isabella Crovetti-Cramp.
Guest Stars: Thora Birch, Victor Rasuk, Carl Weathers, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Kathryn Morris, Adrian Pasdar, Ally Walker, Gonzalo Menendez, Charlie Bewley
My emphasis. Presumably Maddie’s boss mentioned above is Charlotte (Kathryn). Thora Birch (American Beauty) is a new addition to the cast.
This is due to be Kathryn’s last appearance of the season, with just one episode left to go. We already know a second season has been commissioned but we don’t know if Charlotte will be a part of it, or even survive that far. It will likely be filmed in the summer, just as this first season was filmed in mid-2015.
Released promo photos and video, and a sneak peak video for episode nine have not included Kathryn at all. However, I have a suspicion that the two images above, which were tagged as being part of episode 7 and posted a few weeks ago here, are actually for this next one. The more relaxed clothing and hair style (harking back to Lilly Rush a bit) are not looks we’ve seen so far. The shot of Maddie glancing back over her shoulder whilst walking away and Charlotte looking uncomfortable fit with the description. We’ll have to wait and see.
Those photos are in the KM UK Gallery filed under episode seven until we know better.
Kathryn’s partner, and father of her twin boys, Johnny Messner has recently been publicising a new movie called Weaponized, or maybe WEAPONiZED, which was released earlier this week on DVD/Blu-ray and VOD.
It’s an action film starring Johnny as a cop who ‘must prevent a grieving father from unleashing a “robotic virus” that he believes will destroy the terrorist cell that murdered his son.’
One of the interviews Johnny’s done was for the Syracuse.com website. He is from the city of Syracuse in New York state. But we’re not here to talk about him.
As is standard in these interviews there’s a description of Johnny’s history and mention of his private life, which leads us to the following quote from the article:
But the most important role Messner’s taken in recent years may be as a father. He and his wife, “Cold Case” star Kathryn Morris, welcomed twin sons, Jameson and Rocco, in 2013.
“It’s amazing,” he says. “It’s intense having twins. There’s no way to prepare for it, but it’s been… the greatest thing to ever happen to me. And Kathryn is the most amazing mother ever.”
The photo shown above from Johnny’s Instagram is used to illustrate the piece.
Read the complete interview, including a video from Weaponized, by Geoff Herbert on Syracuse.com.
Ahead of the latest episode of the USA network drama series Colony airing today, Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist) has posted an additional photo of herself and Kathryn on the set.
It doesn’t related to tonight’s show, it is another in the set we saw previously from the scene in episode 4 where Charlotte (Kathryn) and Maddie (Amanda) come to an understanding. The understanding being that Maddie will do what she’s told. Last week we found out what that entails.
As we’ve become used to in this series Kathryn is playing very much a supporting role, though in this case she is in the foreground and not the background.
Thank you again to Amanda for the image. The full size version can be seen in the KM UK Gallery.
Hopefully tomorrow we’ll have another glimpse of Kathryn from the promo for next week’s episode, which should see Kathryn star again.
It’s still February, right? (Déjà vu?) Just when you think you’ve got used to the 28 day long month they go and throw in an extra 24 hours. Typical! It’s like they do it every four years (ish) just to catch us out!
As last month’s CCCC-up (where we look at the on-going careers of the Cold Case cast) was a little late and a lot rushed (no pun intended) I managed to miss out a few things. I’ll try and do a bit better this time. No promises though.
It was all about Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) last time and it was some of her stuff I forgot so I’ll start with her to redeem myself.
9 Rides (aka Nine Rides) is by writer/director Matthew A. Cherry (Almost Home) and is a feature film about the very much vehicle of the moment (pun very much intended) an Uber driver and his News Year’s Eve. For those of you living under a rock Uber is a effectively a taxi service run by individuals under the control of a smartphone app. If you don’t know a smartphone is… Customers use the app to request a car. Uber drivers can choose which jobs to respond to. Despite the ‘indie’ image Uber is a well funded operation which takes a cut from each fare. They operate in cities all over the world, with a lot of opposition from local taxi services. It is not without controversy to say the least. I digress. Dorian Missick (Southland) is the unnamed ‘Driver’ who receives some very bad news. Tracie is listed in the cast as ‘Fiancee’. The film is due to première at SXSW festival in March (11-19th). There is a Kickstarter page raising money to help with the final post-production elements with more details and a teaser video HERE.
Love. Remember when that was all the rage two weeks ago? Well, just after that Netflix released the Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) / Lesley Arfin (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) / Paul Rust (I Love You, Beth Cooper)-created comedy series Love starring the aforementioned Rust and Gillian Jacobs (Community). Tracie stars as Susan in five of the 10 episodes in the first season. The show has already been signed up for a second run. I hear good things about it so it might be worth checking out if you can.
As is the way of these things a few days after the last CCCC-up news broke of a Lifetime network movie called The Real MVP: The Wanda Pratt Story being put into production. It is about the mother of NBA star Kevin Durant. I don’t know basketball but I gather Kevin is a big deal in the sport. The film is about the struggles of his mother Wanda to raise two sons alone. Apparently Kevin famously dedicated his 2014 winning of the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award to his mother calling her “the real MVP”. Tracie plays a close friend of Cassandra Freeman’s (Single Ladies) Wanda. Queen Latifah (Bringing Down The House) is producing. Filming was already under way when this story appeared at the beginning of February. It is expected to be first aired in time for the American version of Mother’s Day on the 8th of May.
To mark Black History Month (February in the US) the Word Theatre in LA put on a free show called And All That Jazz. Tracie was amongst the many stars at the Hall Of Liberty performing an of ‘inspiring evening of stories, poetry and memoir’ about the jazz greats. As we all know Tracie is very accomplished singer as well as actor.
Again, a few days after the delayed Jan CCCC-up it was announced that the new comedy thriller BrainDead, from the makers of the soon to end The Good Wife, had signed Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as another lead actor. The show, set in political world of Washington DC but with zombies, was first covered in the Dec ’15 CCCC-up when Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) was added to the cast. The show is due to première this coming summer on the CBS network.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for John Finn (John Stillman in CC). He had guest starring roles in recent episodes of The Good Wife and Elementary (the US TV modern take on Sherlock Holmes). I can’t comment on his roles in either show.
Stretching our remit (as we do occasionally) to stretch the piece we note that regular Cold Case writer and producer Veena Sud (US version of The Killing) has been chosen to write an American remake of the German movie We Monsters. The original film is new, having had a North American première at the influential Toronto Film Festival just last September and centres around recently separated parents forced to get back together to help their teenage daughter cover up a murder.
We’ve moved on a couple of episodes since our last visit to Colony and things have clearly progressed for Maddie, though we’ve been left to fill in many of the blanks for ourselves.
Speaking of filling in… Maddie (Amanda Righetti, The Mentalist), as described previously, is working for Charlotte (Kathryn) her house in the ‘Green Zone’. She is helping to collate and catalogue works of art for distribution amongst the lucky few. Nolan (Adrian Pasdar, Heroes), Charlotte’s husband, is a political player we see is involved in something a kin to a cult revolving around the take over of the planet by the invaders. He took a shine to Maddie last time out. Charlotte is clearly a control freak which we see very much in our first scene when Maddie and Nolan are… errr… you know… and we see madam Burgess is watching them. Whether, to mis-quote the Spicy Girls, “three become one” is left to your own dirty mind. Charlotte did look a little… ruffled. We actually saw this scene weeks ago in, wrongly/oddly added to a trailer for an earlier episode.
Later, Nolan tries to get Maddie to go… errr… one-on-one with him which is very much against the rules laid (no pun intended) down by his wife. Maddie’s not for turning though as she needs her mentor to get insulin for her sick son.
Which brings us to our next does of Kathryn. Maddie notices some paintings have gone missing and finds them tucked away elsewhere in the house. In the background we see Charlotte chewing out (that’s your mind again!) the gardener for doing something not to her liking.
As a form of punishment for allegedly breaking the rules Maddie finds herself demoted to paperwork, as she was doing before revealing her knowledge of locally held private art collections to Charlotte. Incensed at this injustice that could cost her boy dearly she confronts Nolan and tells him she knows things she can use to harm his position (your mind is in the gutter again!). He denies it but not particularly convincingly and goes on to describe his wife as being somewhat unstable and he’d like shot of her. Everyone’s out for something.
I’m having to talk about Maddie a lot in these descriptions because that’s our (the viewers) way to Charlotte. We’re using her, just like everyone on the show is using someone else for their own ends.
Kathryn/Charlotte were very much background players in both senses of the word in this episode of Colony. She is due to return to the screen in a couple of weeks time for number 9. Hopefully we’ll see her in a promo video or photos for that one soon.
Interestingly, the last two photos of Kathryn that were released as promos for this episode depicted a scene that was not in it. Maybe they’re from the next one. Or a deleted scene.
There are 37 HD (720p) screencaps of Kathryn in the episode “Brussard” of Colony in the Gallery.
