The days are getting shorter, the weather is getting worse, there’s a general gloom across the country. It must be summer in the UK Ten days past the solstice means it’s time for another look at the on-going careers some of our favourites in June’s Cold Case Cast Catch-up.
There isn’t much to report this month, and we’ve been giving Danny Pino a lot of love recently, so we’ll start with Tracie. That’s why she gets the headline picture this month.
Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller on CC) had a guest starring role on last week’s episode of the comedy show The Mindy Project. I mentioned in April’s CCCC-up how surprised I was that the show was still going, it having disappeared somewhat a while ago. I only saw bits of the first season years ago so have no clue what is going by the time we reach this last-but-one-but-one episode 24 in season four. It was titled “My Kids Stays In The Picture“, a play on a phrase apparently used by a studio head when defending a young actor that his co-stars wanted rid of. The autobiography of Robert Evans, the kid in question, and a subsequent movie were named after the original phrase. The TMP episode descriptions Mindy putting Leo (her kid?) up for an audition for a role in a soap opera. From a picture Tracie posted on Instagram it looks like she was playing another mother with a child going for the same part, and trying quite hard to get herself noticed too 😯 The Mindy Project is available on the Hulu streaming service these days.
Speaking of heads… They are very much the focus of the CBS network’s (once home to Cold Case) new comedy/sci-fi/drama/dunno BrainDead (the lack of a space in the middle may be a piece of irony so very subtle even a Brit like me doesn’t get it). You may be thinking that this is a predictable segue into the segment about Danny Pino and his leading role on the show. You’d be wrong. Tracie has been filming a guest part on the show recently. When it returns after the 4th of July weekend holiday the show will be on it’s fourth episode. The press release for the fifth does not include Tracie so we’ll be waiting a little bit longer to find out more.
Speaking of BrainDead (not so subtle)… Danny Pino (Scotty Valens on CC) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) continue in the slightly odd, but fun, show set in the political world of Washington. Two things stand out on this programme. First is the opening “previously on…” segment. It is written and sung by a gentleman by the name of Jonathan Coulton, who has been writing and performing work with a science, technology, sci-fi and humorous bent for a while. Many of you will know his song “Still Alive” from the closing credits of the computer game Portal. Secondly is the actual title of each episode. The upcoming, and previously referred to, fourth episode is called “Wake Up Grassroots: The Nine Virtues of Participatory Democracy, and How We Can Keep America Great by Encouraging an Informed Electorate“. Seriously! That’s the longest of the five announced so far, but not by much. I’d imagine the listings magazines and EPG designers and programmers are less than thrilled.
Aren’t I nice? I kept it short so your head doesn’t explode. More next time.
In a few weeks the sci-fi-ish drama-ish series Colony will be released on DVD over there in that America. To mark the occasion KM UK is going to publish a series of exclusive-to-the-site (because I made them) full HD (that’s 1920×1080) screencaps in one of our Summer Of HD update series.
When was the last time we had a proper Summer Of HD update? I’d like to say “I can’t remember” but I can because I just looked it up and my short term memory is not that bad!
2015… I mean 2014 was when it was.
Based on the image above I think that when Hollywood attempts a re-make of the upcoming Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (due out in the UK on Friday, 1st July) they need look no further than Kathryn as a younger, even more attractive Patsy.
A search on IMDb suggests that a remake of the TV series was already attempted in the US but it never made it past the pilot stage. Coincidently it starred a Kathryn, Kathryn Hahn of Crossing Jordan fame, but in the Edina (aka Eddie) role as played by Jennifer Saunders. America gets the new film towards the end of July by the way.
The cast list of Ab Fab: T’Movie is quite something, with all walks of British celebrity-dom covered, which means that many of the cameos will go over the heads of those outside the UK. Gwendoline Christie (Game Of Thrones), Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect), and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) will be recognisable to many others around the world though. But, most importantly, the amazing Jane Horrocks reprises her role as the utterly barmy (it’s a good thing, trust me) Bubble.
First up in our short run are 55 new Full HD (1080p) screencaps of Kathryn in the fourth episode of Colony. Find them in the Gallery.
It’s been a day.
A whole 24 hours, almost to the minute, has gone by since I last posted about Roommate Wanted (aka 2Br/1Ba). That very post is here.
Having stumbled across the news that Roommate Wanted was recently released in Germany on DVD and Blu-ray formats, I also found out that in about one month’s time those on the other side of the world will get it too.
Yes, our cousins in Australia will be on the receiving end of both disc formats on the 20th of July this year.
Based on the ‘M’ logo on the front of the cover (image on the right) it looks like the film has been classified as being suitable for those aged 15 and over. Apparently there is some leeway for appropriate adults to be slightly inappropriate and allow younger ones access, but they probably shouldn’t. Always read any advisory notes provided by your regional authority.
Australia is not part of Europe, and is seriously considering no longer having anything to do with the UK, but managed to horn in on Eurovision recently because it uses the same TV standards and therefore is in the same DVD/Blu-ray region codes.
It’s been a year.
A whole 12 months, almost to the day, has gone by since I last posted about Roommate Wanted (aka 2Br/1Ba). That very post, my review of the movie, is here.
I have just discovered that Roommate Wanted has been released in Germany for home viewing. Not only is it available on DVD, as it was in the USA, but also on the hi-def Blu-ray format too.
It looks like it started shipping at the beginning of this month (June 2016). Despite what the image on the right suggests I believe the disc is rated with as acceptable for 16 year olds. Check your local suppliers for details though.
As things stand at the time of writing the UK is still part of Europe and the whole continent, and Australasia, are part of the same region for DVDs and Blu-rays so cross border purchasing is viable.
Kathryn has a small role in the comedy drama about two room-mates (played by Alexa Vega and Spencer Grammer) who get into a more than a little disagreement about something.
The TV Series Finale website is asking the question that those of us on this website already know the answer to.
Who’s the Sexiest Female Cop or Detective on TV?
We’re surprised it even needed to ask.
I give you exhibits A, B and C, your honour…
And that’s just 3 images from the Cold Case promos for season 2, 4 and 6 respectively. I don’t even need to pull out the BIG GUNS! There’s lots of other great examples in the KM UK Gallery.
In the piece they refer to Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), and a real blast from the past Heather Locklear from (remember this?) T.J. Hooker. It was a nice touch to list these lovely women but they let slip the real truth behind the article by finally casually dropping in Kathryn.
Feel free to set the good people of TV Series Finale straight HERE.
