Netflix & Thrill(er) – Colonisation Comes Early

colony_banner_2880x1260Waaaaaay back in March (remember then? happy times) in amongst news of Colony season one coming to the UK via Sky there was mention of Netflix acquiring the global rights.

At the time the streaming network was said to be making the sci-fi-ish drama series available to all subscribers early in 2017.

Well, Xmas has come early to sci-fi fans paying [insert correct amount here in local currency] per month to watch Netflix’s bought-in and original shows.  Colony series one will be released on Tuesday (13th Dec 2016).

Kathryn guest stars in four episodes across the season, starting with number three.  She plays a wealthy art collector helping the invading aliens gather paintings from across Los Angeles.  As Charlotte she is also the wife of a political figure (Adrian Pasdar).

Season two of Colony is due to start in one month from tomorrow, with the first episode due to hit the USA Network on the 12th of January, as reported here last month.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – November 2016

Nearly done for the year.  But before we get to December we have to close out November with the latest  look at the on-going careers of the rest of the Cold Case cast.  The ones that aren’t Kathryn that is.

We don’t often get to post about Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera on CC) so I try to give him top billing when the chance arrives.  There he is above, eyes drilling in to you.  Two weeks ago Jeremy had a guest starring role in the TV series Chicago P.D.  The show is one of the more recent creations by the prolific Dick Wolf and his production company.  Dick has been involved in crime-based TV since Hill Street Blues and was responsible for Law & Order and its various spin-offs.  Now he his adding to his collection with the Chicago set.  Chicago Fire has begat both Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. already there could well be another, Chicago Justice, on the way next year.  Jeremy was Jim in episode 7 of season 4, titled ‘300,000 Likes’, of P.D. which aired on the 16th of November.

Another of our less regular regulars is Thom Barry (Will Jeffries in CC).  Back in August I reported on Thom appearing in a short film called Casting.  At the time I questioned whether a 20 minute film could be called a short.  It’s more of a medium.  IMDb is now reporting the film is 39 minutes long making it what?  A medium plus?  The film is about the horrific and all too common world of human trafficking.  The official website now has an actually short trailer.  No change to the vague 2017 release date beyond a claim of ‘coming soon’.

At this point I’d normally be quietly thanking Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller on CC) for being so active, giving me plenty to talk about and preventing more than a few of these posts saying just ‘nothing to report’.  This month we need to be saying Get Well Soon instead.  Tracie, as reported in the past two CCCC-ups, is busy starring in the musical Falsettos which must be curtailing her TV and film work.  However, Tracie recently hurt both her ankles putting her out of action.  Stephanie Umoh is standing (sorry Tracie!) in for her on the boards.  In mid-January (the 11th & 14th to be precise) Tracie is doing one of her one woman shows at the Feinstein’s/54 Below venue in New York.  Book early to avoid disappointment.

Also last month I mentioned a new Veena Sud (writer and producer on many episodes of CC) project called Seven Seconds for Netflix.   Since then additional cast members have been announced.  Raúl Castillo (Looking) and Zackary Momoh, a British actor currently to be seen in the movie A United Kingdom.

Xmas Advent Calendar 2016

advent_calendar_430x90As we approach the end of the year it is common to look back on the past year.

This seems to be happening especially early this year.  Perhaps this is because it has been a tumultuous one for many people around the world.  There have been losses this year that could have significant on-going implications for all us, possibly for generations.  In the world of entertainment alone we’ve lost many revered people.  Two long considered living legends became eternal legends: David Bowie and Prince.

Cold Case did a lot of looking back.  Most episodes opened with a flashback scene from years gone-by, followed by frequent returns to that period as the story unfolded.  Kathryn, as Lilly Rush, ended many an episode staring into space as she saw/thought about the victim and how they would feel about their last chapter finally being written.  Some times we all just need to gaze at the horizon whilst we contemplate the bigger picture.

In this spirit the theme for the 2016 KM UK Advent Calendar is made up of shots from episodes of Cold Case where Lilly does that distant, mixed emotions (glad things are resolved but with some sadness) stare.  There are so many that I’ve focused on just seasons one to three.

Each day of December running up to and including Xmas day a new image will be revealed in the Advent Calendar album in the KM UK Gallery.  See if you can work out which of the nearly 70 episodes each image comes from.

A link has now been added to the right-hand menu to save you searching for this post as the month progresses.

Colony Season 2 Date Set

colony_banner_2880x1260In the past week there have been a couple of significant announcements regarding the upcoming season two of the USA network TV sci-fi-ish drama series Colony.

First:  The debut date for the first episode of season two is set as the 12th of January 2017.  That means the show is retaining its Thursday night slot.  A promo video is out there.

Second:  Additional characters and the actors who will play them have been named.  William Russ (Cold Case, S07E18, The Last Drive In) will be a new resistance fighter Hennessey.  Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls, due to return to the TV this coming week with a new mini-series) is a new Homeland Security staff member working with Kathleen Rose Perkins (Episodes) and Josh Holloway (Lost).  And finally we meet another Redhat (the army/police enforcement squad working with the invaders) questioning his role in the form of Paolo Andino (The Last Ship).

I say ‘finally’ but earlier this year Tony Plana (Ugly Betty), Jessica Parker Kennedy (Black Sails), and Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill) were announced as joining growing the cast as well.  Tony will be the new bloc proxy, replacing Snyder (Peter Jacobson will still be on the show).  We will likely get more of a look at the so far hidden side of the occupation because Jessica is someone in one of the labour camps.  Towards the end of season one we saw Thora Birch in a significant position in the resistance.  She and her small crew captured one of the aliens.  Thora will not be in season two but her character remains, now in the shape of Bethany.

Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist), Adrian Pasdar (Agents Of SHIELD), Peter Jacobson (House) and Tory Kittles (True Detective) are all returning to the series in recurring roles.

An obvious omission from this list is Kathryn.  We last saw her character Charlotte, the wife of a political figure (Pasdar) and art collector, being taken away by the Redhats for keeping works of art that should have been handed over to the authorities.  That could very well spell the end for Charlotte but we did see glimpses of the labour camps that humans were taken to so all is not necessarily lost.  Sadly though, I do think we have to assume that Kathryn will not be returning though.  Let us hope I am wrong.

Colony season two will continue the story of the Bowman family and their fights for survival in a world taken over by an alien force.  The world has been split into walled-in state-sized ‘blocs’.  What remains of the human population is held within these areas.  Little is known of what lies between them.

Josh Holloway (Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) are searching for their missing son as well as looking after their other two children.  He is essentially a cop coerced into working for Homeland Security.  She is a resistance fighter, risking everything for the sake of freedom from the invaders.

KM @ Costella & Donola Boutique Opening 2010 Update

002Six years ago today I posted about Kathryn attending a cocktail party to mark the opening Costella & Donola Boutique in LA.  That happened just over six years ago on the 11th November 2010.

I think you’ve waited long enough for some additional and updated photos so now seems like the perfect time to do that.

Along with a very slightly enlarged first image there are 4 ‘new’ images now in the Gallery.

One of the two artists, Isabelle Donola, was kind enough to visit our little website and leave a comment on my brief post covering the event.  KM UK was even featured on their website in amongst their images of media posts.

In the intervening time Isabelle appears to have gone solo.  She has her own website HERE (KM UK still features).  In 2014 she appeared on a fashion-based reality TV show called Under The Gunn.  It was a sort of spin-off from presenter Tim Gunn’s very successful Project Runway show.

In one of the photos (middle below) you can see Kathryn chatting with the actress Rebecca Mader.  Earlier that year the two had worked together on the film that became Cougars Inc.  After a series of small film and TV roles (including The Devil Wears Prada) the English-born actress known for her striking red hair and piercing blue eyes came to wider public notice in the TV series Lost.  Since then she’s done many guest starring roles (Fringe, 30 Rock, Blue Bloods, and Iron Man 3 amongst them) and for the past few years has been a regular on the ABC network fantasy drama Once Upon A Time as Zelena.  In fact you’ll be able to see her in the next episode (S06E08) due for broadcast tonight (13 Dec) in America.
