Reverie Is One Of SpoilerTV’s Most Anticipated

The team at the SpoilerTV website have put together a list of their most anticipated shows of the upcoming 2017/18 season.

Each regular contributor voted for their own favourites and the results of that internal poll left the site with thirteen shows to present.

One of the lucky 13 is Reverie, a show KM UK and its followers are eager to see as Kathryn Morris is due to co-star in the show that is looking to hit the small screens earlier next year. Reverie stars Sarah Shahi (Person Of Interest) as an ex-cop and behavioural expert brought in by a virtual reality company that is having problems with people not wanting to leave their alternative worlds. Kathryn’s Monica Shaw is from the Department of Defense, who are taking an interest in VR project, and that is rarely a good thing in a show like this. Dennis Haysbert (24), Jessica Lu (Awkward.), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) also co-star.

SpoilerTV has now put that baker’s dozen to the us, the great unwashed public, to vote on the ones we are looking forward to most.

At the time of writing The Gifted is out in front in the poll. Lead actress Amy Acker (Angel) returning to the small screen after starring with Sarah Shahi in the hit show Person Of Interest may have a lot to do with that popularity. Amy’s co-star Stephen Moyer (True Blood), another Brit making waves in Hollywood, might also be having an effect. And then there’s the whole Marvel universe and mutants things. And Amy Acker.

Next up is The Good Doctor. David Shore, the creator/writer of House, has returned to the medical profession with this show based on a South Korean drama of the same name. Another Brit, Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) leads this one with a hint of House about it. Freddie is a brilliant surgeon with autism. Richard Schiff (The West Wing) and Hill Harper (CSI: NY) co-star.

After that is a close fight between several other shows Black Lightning (a DC comics character), The Resident (another medical drama, this time about a… resident, think Scrubs with fewer laughs), The Orville (Seth Macfarlane of Family Guy does a Galaxy Quest-like show), Life Sentence (Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars as cured of cancer living in the moment), and Reverie (see above).

Which leaves The Mayor, Ghosted, Wisdom Of The Crowd, S.W.A.T., Seal Team, and Deception trailing behind.

I think The Gifted will take this one easily. Did I mention Amy Acker’s in it? But there is plenty of scope for Reverie to move up to a podium place.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – August 2017

The summer holidays, and possibly the summer itself based on the current weather forecasts, might be coming to an end but some people have been working. August 2017’s Cold Case Cast Catch-up peruses the on-going careers the others in Cold Case.

I need to start things off with an apology. Last month‘s CCCC-up I accused Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) of not doing much in July for me to post about. I was wrong to doubt. I should have known better. Sorry Tracie. If I had only checked my own notes properly before hand I could have avoided this hurt.

Let’s rectify this egregious error immediately.

In the middle of July Ms Thoms worked on a short film called Are We Good Parents? This is the work of writer/director/producer Bola Ogun. Bola looks like she’s been a one woman film industry in the past 10 years having worked as a production assistant, assistant director, writer, voice actor, actor, and is now moving into producing and directing her own films. Initially this appears to be with a series of short film. One of those films, The Water Phoenix, premièred at the LA Shorts Fest earlier this month. Are We Good Parents? stars Brit actor Sean Maguire (Robin Hood in One Upon A Time) and Gabrielle Skye, alongside Tracie. In England Sean is still best known for stints in kid drama Grange Hill and soap opera EastEnders. He’s since moved to LA and had a string of guest roles in shows you may have heard of like CSI: NY and Cold Case? He was in Two Weddings from season 7. Are We Good Parents? is currently in post-production.

To get more up to date: Waaaaay back in Feb 2016 (see here) I posted about a feature film called 9 Rides by Matthew A. Cherry At the time the film was looking for a little extra financing via Kickstarter to… errrr… get finished. It went on to debut at the SXSW festival in March of the same year. A week in to this August it was announced that the film had been acquired by Gravitas Ventures and Flourishing Films, presumably for distribution in some form. For some reason the site hosting that announcement is no longer available so I can’t verify details. 9 Rides is about an Uber driver on New Years Eve. I believe Tracie plays one of several sets of passengers the driver transports during the course of the film. We’ll have to wait to see if anything comes of this news.

Tracie looks to be returning to the scene of the Criminal Minds in September. She is set to reprise her role as Monica Walker, wife of a main character, in the première episode of season 13 of the show. This is based on the IMDb listings. However, I see that the actor playing the husband Damon Gupton has been dropped from the cast. Tracie’s appearance, assuming it happens, may have a bearing on his character’s departure. Another one to wait and see.

More Love will be heading Tracie’s way as the Judd Apatow created Netflix comedy drama Love has been given a third season. Gillian Jacobs (Community) and Paul Rust (co-creator and writer) star as a mismatched couple in the warts-and-all relationship-based show. Season 3 is due to air early next year.

Moving on from Tracie. Recent birthday boy Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera in CC) has been making a short film called Radio 88. The 12 minute-long piece by Kim Noonan and John Salcido centres on the closure of a radio station and a man trying to get to the studios in time to meet ‘the love of his life’. Jeremy is listed as playing ‘Danger’ Dickie Defozzio, at a guess I’d say he’s a radio DJ. A première date of 11th September this year is given for the work, presumably at a film festival, but I have yet to determine which.

4 years old! Blimey! They’re practically men already! Kids grow up so fast these days!

Yes, Kathryn and Johnny Messner’s twin boys are celebrating their 4th birthday today. I’m sure they’ve been spoilt rotten with gifts and messages on their special day. This is KM UK’s small contribution to that.

Just the other day we had Tracie Thoms (Kat Millar on CC) to pass on birthday wishes to, and at the beginning of the month it was Jeremy Ratchford’s turn. So many august occasions in August!

Sendhil Ramamurthy Talks Reverie

Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) attended the recent Comic-Con event in San Diego.

The actor has many reasons to be at sci-fi TV and movie focused gatherings like Comic-Con because of his work on shows like Heroes, Lucky Man, and Covert Affairs over the past decade. Of course this year Sendhil had a new project to talk about: the new upcoming TV series Reverie.

The comparative lack of Reverie news to come out of July’s Comic-Con suggests that most of those discussions happened behind closed doors. Perhaps they’ll become more public nearer to the broadcast. There were definitely none of the panel discussions made up of cast and crew from the show that have become common practice at these conferences. I don’t think key members of the production team were present.

However, blogger Cherry Davis got a 5 minute-long interview with Sendhil. In that time he explains the basic plot line of Reverie, hints at some of the motivations of the main character played by Sarah Shahi, and details his own role. Crucially Kathryn gets a mention about 3 minutes in. Sendhil leaves Kathryn’s Monica Shaw as a mystery, saying she comes in towards the end of the pilot that he’d just seen.

In between the pitching, filming, and broadcast much can change in a new TV series. Hearing that Kathryn’s character has made it into a later cut of the first episode, and forms part of what could be the on-going storyline is very welcome news.

Kathryn In Extended Resurrecting The Champ Interview

It’s 10 years ago this month that the film Resurrecting The Champ was first released in cinemas in selected parts of the world. Most of the rest of the world didn’t get to see it for months, or even years, later.

Ten years! That’s crazy!

RTC is about a struggling newspaper sports reporter (Josh Hartnett as Erik Kernan) looking for a story that will make his name. He then stumbles upon a homeless man (Samuel L Jackson only referred to as ‘Champ’) as who claims to be a long-thought dead boxing legend. Kathryn (you know, from Cold Case) plays Joyce Kernan, wife of Erik. She’s a successful journalist working at the same newspaper and mother to his child. Joyce is a few years older than Erik, which appears to be the cause of some issues for him.

Kathryn’s role in the film is relatively small but, as is often the case, it is crucial to the development of lead character as the story progresses

2007 puts us before Josh found his Penny, Dreadful or otherwise and Samuel L was yet to become the Marvel character Nick Fury in a 1001 projects. Or star in an unrelated film called Fury (aka The Samaritan). Dakota Goyo, the actor who played the Kernan’s son and the lucky so-and-so that got a red carpet hug from Kathryn at the première :-x, was 8 at the time. Since then he’s starred as the son of Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly in the robot fighting movie Real Steel, and sort of crossed paths with SLJ again as he was the young Thor in the first of that branch of the Marvel universe.

But enough of the ‘where are they now’. Today I’ve added an extended video interview Kathryn did for promotional material to the KM UK Gallery. A shorter section had been posted before. It is her answers to a series of questions describing Joyce and her role in the plot. Broadcasters often use segments of these videos when reviewing films.

As we’ve come to expect from Kathryn she gives detailed explanations in simple terms and has clearly worked hard to understand her character. Working previously with director Rod Lurie (Deterrence and The Contender), who once suggested Kathryn was his muse, most have helped with that getting that deeper knowledge.
