Cold Case Cast Catch-up – August 2018

July’s CCCC-up promised little due to the quiet summer months. Despite that, I think we put together a reasonable amount of information. August is also slim pickings for looking at the news of the Cold Case cast’s on-going careers.

Last time we mentioned her (almost) last so it is only fair that this month we let her go first… with The First. July’s CCCC-up finished talking about a new drama series coming to the streaming service Hulu. It is called The First and stars Sean Penn (Dead Man Walking) and Natascha McElhone (The Truman Show) and Melissa George (Hunted), and Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC). The 8 episode drama about the first manned (and womaned) mission to Mars is due to for launch all at once on the 14th of September (a Friday, in case you’re interested). Previously I posted a link to a teaser trailer that had been out a week. Now we have a proper trailer only a couple of days old. See it HERE on YouTube. Tracie features, very briefly, around 55 seconds in. Expect to see Tracie in two episodes.

On that very same day in September the horror movie The Basement, which also sees Tracie in a small supporting role, gets its limited cinematic release. There is a trailer but I’m not going to link to it (you don’t need to see it) and Tracie is not in it anyway.

As there is just a few days to go now there has been quite a lot of press activity regarding Mayans MC, the FX network drama spin-off from Sons Of Anarchy. The new show which stars Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) starts next Tuesday, the 4th of September. We’ve covered Mayans MC here on KM UK quite a lot already for those looking for a bit more info.

Let’s sneak in a quick mention of one of our less frequent fliers (because she sort of doesn’t fit these posts really): Veena Sud (producer & writer on CC). It was back in April’s CCCC-up that we mentioned Veena was re-uniting with her The Killing star Mireille Enos for a new film called Between Earth And Sky. It has been renamed to The Lie and has featured in a list of projects recognised for being gender balanced. Women in Film, the Sundance Institute, and IMDbPro have formed a group called ReFrame to do just that. Veena wrote and directed The Lie.

Japanese Cold Case Season 2 Due Soon

It has been two years but the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s First Investigative Division squad are returning to Japanese television screens in the autumn.

The WOWOW TV network is airing 10 new episodes of their version of Cold Case starting on the 13th of October. WOWOW is the Japanese home of the original American version too.

Yo Yoshida returns as the Japanese Lilly Rush. Her character is called Yuri Ishikawa and, as I noted previously, in a nice touch Yuri is Japanese for Lily. The rest of the core cast looks to be the same as in season 1 too.

Kathryn and Johnny’s twin boys have reached the grand old age of 5 today. They grow up so fast these days…

Reverie S01E10 – Point Of Origin Screencaps

So, that’s that for Reverie. At least until we hear about a possible second season.

As previously, Kathryn’s Monica played a crucial role in the plot, but not one that required much screen time. It took until nearly 20 minutes in before we got to see her. The episode was mostly focused on Alexis (Jessica Lu) and her story.

Monica went full Mindhunters/Mind Hunters for section in the middle: creeping around in the dark, gun poised. We got a few good Kathryn smiles too.

Any thoughts on the twist at the end? I have my own ideas based on who we know was left within the program, though it doesn’t make much sense. I’m sure the creators and writers have a plan if they get a chance to continue.

Reverie S01E10 – Preview Video + Promo Photos

Looks like we’re only going to be seeing Kathryn in six of the 10 episodes in Reverie‘s first season. No news yet on whether there will be a second.

Kathryn did not feature in this week’s episode, number 9 called ‘The Key’. However, the post-show preview for the season finale gave us a glimmer of hope for the next. And I do mean a glimmer. It is a blink and you’ll miss it moment about 10 seconds into the half-minute long clip. The video is now in the Gallery. Any promotional photos will be added if/when they are released.

The press release for the upcoming episode mentions one of the team being kidnapped. You can work out which person it is from the clip without too much difficulty. Looks like Kathryn’s Monica Shaw is roped in to help out.

Update: Five, yes 5!, promo photos from Point Of Origin that include Kathryn have been released. That does suggest she will be in the episode a reasonable amount. See all five, count ’em, in the Gallery now. Expect bigger and better versions soon.
