Birthday Fan Art + Video Project

We are rapidly approaching the special day of a certain special lady.  Yes, Kathryn’s birthday is just a few weeks away (28 Jan).  Wouldn’t it be great to celebrate the event with some new birthday themed fan art to go with our best wishes?

You can contact me directly by email or via the contact form for any submissions.  There will be a posting here on the day itself using one of the images as a banner for anyone to post happy birthday messages for Kathryn.

Karen's Birthday Project imageNow on to a request from a regular contributor to KM UK.  Karen (@Kareen_T) s working on a related project and has asked if the readers of KM UK readers would be willing to help.  We’d be honoured Karen.

Karen is working on a video to celebrate Kathryn’s birthday and would like photos to include in it.  She has created a lovely image giving all the details.  You can see it on the right.  Click to view it in full.  I have included a copy of the text below.

Tracie In Human Target Screencaps – Update

I know that many of you are fans of Kathryn’s co-stars from Cold Case.  Tracie Thoms, who played Kat Miller in CC, is multi-talented and has returned to stage performing since Cold Case ended, not that she really left it.  However, she recently re-appeared on the small screen, taking a guest star role in the TV show Human Target.  Tracie played the ex-wife of a main character, which does leave scope for her returning.

I practically broke the news of her getting the job to Tracie herself after posting about the news on Twitter a few months back.  She hadn’t even had a chance to tell anyone else about it!  Sorry Tracie :-)

I’ve done this for fans of Danny Pino by posting screencaps of him in Burn Notice (here and here) so I thought I’d do the same for Tracie fans.  Feel free to pass on details of this post onto any Tracie fansites etc. you think might appreciate them.  You can download a small zip of 49 HD (720p) watermark-less screencaps HERE.

Another recent Tweet by the lady herself suggests that she has taken on another TV role in an episode of Harry’s Law, a new legal drama starring another Kathy: Kathy Bates.  The show is due to debut later this month, but I don’t know yet which episode Tracie is involved in.  From IMDb it also appears that Tracie is involved in several upcoming movies as well.

Update: Tracie has posted a Tweet to say she’s has a recurring role in Harry’s Law and, so far, will be in 3 episodes.

Cold Case Virtual Season 8 Première

Last year, after the cancellation of Cold Case, a group of fans on the Look Again forum decided to write their own season 8.  That work has come to fruition and the results are now being made available with the season première yesterday.

I’ll let participant nomnivore take it from here:

Our first episode in Cold Case’s virtual season eight is now available!

Visit www.coldcasevirtualseason.net for the first episode in our virtual season “The Wall”, written by Todd Smitts.

Lilly and the squad reopen the case of a CIA agent who retired at the end of the Cold War, only to be murdered in a park in 1993, when new evidence comes to light that robbery may not have been the motive. As they delve deeper into the case, they soon learn that even retired spies have secrets, and that the man’s co-workers and even his own family may know more than their letting on. Meanwhile, as Lilly gets ready for a new chapter, working for the FBI, she begins to have second thoughts as she she realizes she’ll be leaving behind more than just her job. The music of REM is played throughout the episode. Part 1 of 2.

In the coming weeks we’ll publish further episodes featuring Cold Cases from all eras (including a case from 1926). Highlights include:

  • Lilly must choose between working in the FBI and staying with Stillman’s team
  • Scotty deals with fallout from his involvement in Jimmy Mota’s murder
  • The return of former Deputy Commissioner Patrick Doherty
  • We learn more about the extended Rush- Cooper family

Congratulations to all involved for making this happen.  It’s a shame that I can’t make screencaps from it :-)  I’ve added a link in the menu on the right to the CC VS8 site.

Any chance there’ll be a story line about a suave Englishman sweeping Lilly off her feet? :-)

Early Cougars, Inc. Euro Blu-ray Release? – Update

What’s the German for “take this with a pinch of salt”?

A bit of a bolt out of the Blu (see what I did there? sorry :-) ) this one. Amazon in Germany has Cougars, Inc. down as a DVD and Blu-ray release on  21 April 2011.  The film is listed under its previous name with an additional prefix giving the longer title of Loverboys – Mother’s Little Helpers.

Blu-ray.com, a site covering HD disc releases all over the world, also has a German version of Cougars, Inc. (with Loverboys – Mother’s Little Helpers as an alternative title) marked as available from the slightly earlier date of March 24th same date.

The Blu-ray/DVD prices are the same on both sites (€14.99/€10, which is £13/£8.50 and US$20/US$13).  Quite low prices for a new release.  Also, Amazon attributing the movie a 12 certificate is curious, which maybe a reflection on differing attitudes in German.  Or it may all be completely wrong.

Both sites roughly agreeing does suggest that the basics could well be right.  This means that outside of the USA Cougars, Inc. may not be getting a theatrical release at all.  But in compensation we might be receiving full HD copy for the home.  Can’t wait :-)

Update: Blu-ray.com has updated it’s release date to 21 April 2011 to match Amazon Germany.

Moneyball To Get November Release In UK?

Back in October of last year Kathryn herself told us that the movie Moneyball was due out in September 2011.  Subsequently, various sites gave us a more definitive date of the 23rd of the month.  But that, it seems, was just for the US market.

The biggest film releases are often done nearly simultaneously across the world to maximise the publicity and minimise the effects of piracy.  It doesn’t look like Moneyball is being considered in terms of a blockbuster summer movie for territories outside of America though.  Film Distributors’ Association Ltd. (FDA), via their Launching Films website, and IMDb are now reporting that the UK theatrical release is set for the 4th of November.

FDA is a trade body representing companies that release movies for the cinema in the UK.  Their members include Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures and as such cover the vast majority of theatrical releases in the country.

Baseball is not a major sport outside of the northern United States, so the thinking may be that putting the film out in a quieter period after all the big action flicks have been and gone may give it a better chance of success.

Moneyball stars Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A’s baseball team, with Kathryn taking the role as his second wife.  Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright also co-star in the film adaptation of Michael Lewis’ book of the same name.
