The Coin @ Palm Springs International ShortFest 2013

poster_001According to a post by Fabien Martorell on the Facebook page for the short film The Coin, it has been selected for the Palm Springs International ShortFest for 2013.  Fabien should know more than most as he is the director and co-writer of the short film.  Congratulations to all involved in that achievement.

The festival runs for a week in the latter half of June and will be showing more than 300 short films from all over the world.  Nothing has been announced officially by the festival organisers as the time of writing.  We will certainly let you know when that changes.

The Coin is a 9 minute long film starring Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and Kathryn.  Kathryn plays the stressed-out mother of a young boy who meets a homeless man (Lloyd).

See previous posts on KM UK for more info on the project.  The ShortFest and the International Film Festival share a website which can be seen here.

Cold Case Is Becoming A Cold Case

Three years ago today the final ever episodes of Cold Case aired in the USA.  In 2010 the 2nd of May was a Sunday of course.

That day the last two episodes (Almost Paradise and Shattered) broadcast back-to-back brought an end to seven seasons totalling 156 shows.  Sadly there are no signs of them re-opening up the case box on this one.

Since then only Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) has returned to network television in a regular role.  Danny has completed two seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the show has already been renewed for its 15th, due in the autumn.  Most of the main cast of Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller), John Finn (John Stillman), Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera) and Thom Barry (Will Jeffries) have gone on to make guest starring appearances in shows like Emily Owens MD, The Good Wife, Suits, Harry’s Law and Person Of Interest.  And that is just Tracie’s TV credits!  As for the guys, they’ve have turned up in things such as Blue Bloods, Golden Boy, Hawaii Five-O, Homeland, House, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, NCIS, Outlaw, Perception and Shameless.  Sadly Kathryn has done nothing like that since Cold Case ended, limiting her work to a few movie roles.  Here on KM UK we keep an eye on the non-Kathryn CC cast members’ careers and let you know in our regular Cold Case Cast Catch-up posts.

However, things could be very different by the end of this year.  Both Kathryn and Tracie have worked on pilots which are hoping to be picked up to series for the new season in September/October.  As we’ve covered extensively already in Kathryn’s case the show is a drama called Surgeon General and is aiming for slot in CBS’s schedules.  Tracie’s show is Gothica and is for ABC.  We will know if they are successful in the next couple of weeks.

2006 Inspiration Awards Photos & Video

inspiration_awards_029Has it really been over a month since the last time we delved back into the archive for a Gallery update?  And have we really never posted anything from the Step Up Women’s Network Inspiration Awards in 2006?  Yes and, much to our surprise, no.  Let’s correct both those things right now.

To prove that some thought goes into these things and we don’t just pick a random image taken from anywhere, post it and ask if you like it (as if we would ever stoop to that!) this is almost an anniversary for this event.  Which in itself could be a running theme in the coming weeks.

It is difficult to believe that these photos were taken all the way back in 2006, but they were.  The 27th of April 2006 to be precise.  As you can see from the image above Kathryn spoke at the event as well as just honouring them with her presence.  That perfect amount of long blonde hair was also there that day.

In a small run of public appearances at the end of 2012, Kathryn was seen attending a couple of Step Up Network events.  You can jog your memory about that here and here.

The KM UK Gallery now has 29 new photos (of various sizes) from the red carpet, the awards ceremony itself and accompanying function.  Plus, we have a small video of Kathryn being interviewed at the event.

How many likes?  😉

Revival House Extension #2

revival_house_logo_430x38.gif

Tying in nicely with the recent news that Kathryn will be executive producing the forthcoming Alice Sweet Alice horror film remake with her own production company Revival House, we have an update on the status of the trademark for the company.

A quick recap.  Back in September 2011 news broke about a new drama being developed for the Lifetime network by Kathryn and her new production company Revival House.  This was not long after we reported the official abandonment of the trademark on Kathryn’s previous company Hotplate Productions.  Nothing ever came of the drama.

In April of 2012 the trademark for Revival House was approved.  Mark owners have six months to give evidence of the commercial of the name or apply for a six month extension.  Up to five extensions can be issued, meaning that you have a total of three years to use a trademark before it is cancelled.  October last year saw the first extension being granted.

Late in March this year a second extension was requested and just last week it was issued.  It bodes well that the mark is being actively maintained and with the news of the film it means it could have quite soon.  It may well require an additional extension or two before the proper evidence of usage can be supplied though.

For those that need to know even more the Trademarkia website has all the details.

UK Cougars Are…

dvd_003…Disappointing.  Even more so than their counterparts from other countries.

On Monday of last week (15th April 2013) the UK DVD release of the movie Cougars, Inc. hit the shelves.  Probably not many shelves, but shelves are definitely involved.

The film itself is exactly the same as the US release, save for the different frame rate, as no cuts were required.  The UK DVD does, however, differ in one key aspect:  no extras.  Apart from the usual scene selection and a choice of stereo or surround sound audio there are no extras what so ever.  None at all.  Nada.  Zilch.  Not even the commentary tracking involving Kathryn, which was one of the few reasons for getting the film on disc in the first place.

KM UK’s advice for anyone in Europe still wanting to purchase Cougars, Inc. is to buy the German version, which goes by the name of Loverboys.  It doesn’t have the commentary track either but does include the other extras of a trailer and gallery.  And there is a Blu-ray version.   The discs are the correct region coding for Europe, removing that issue, and both have a selectable English soundtrack for those not versed in German.

Amazon Deutschland has the DVD and Blu-ray available very cheaply (less than €5 / £4.30 each).  You may not be aware that if you have an Amazon account for your region the login will work in any of the international Amazon sites.  If you can navigate the language you can order from it.  Some restrictions apply so not everything will be available to ship outside of that country though and import taxes might be applied.

You can read KM UK’s comprehensive, and less than favourable, review of Cougars, Inc. here.
