Sunday’s Coming Up Short(s)

Or should that be “upcoming shorts”?

This Sunday (8th September 2013) sees the short film The Coin screened at Los Angeles International Short Film Festival (aka the LA Shorts Fest for… short).

Fabien Martorell’s film is one of seven films in the enigmatically/practically named ‘Program 16’ screening starting on Sunday afternoon at 3:15. It shares that bill with three dramas and a comedy from the USA, and a comedy and a drama from Germany. Some of the many other films to be shown at the festival are grouped under titles such as “Horror Program” and “Song & Dance Program”. Clearly the septet that includes The Coin defy such easy labelling

The Coin; starring Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future), Kathryn, Will Kemp (Mindhunters) and Jack Ryan Shepherd; premièred at the Palm Springs International ShortFest back in June. Towards the end of this month it will appearing in the line-up of the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival.

The 9 minute long film revolves around the young son (Shepherd) of a stressed mother (Morris) and his encounter with a homeless man (Lloyd) outside a small convenience store. It was shot over a 4 day period in July of 2012.

Naming Names – Update

Update: After a Tweet with the single word “Ed” and a photo of a baby was apparently posted by Johnny Messner (Kathryn’s partner), Johnny posted a follow-up Tweet stating the picture was not posted by him and was the result of a hack of his Twitter account. This post has been edited to remove the content and the photo has been deleted from the Gallery. Apologies for any confusion.

We have no idea what happened but, as per the post title, names need naming!

Cold Case S02E18 – Ravaged Full HD Screencaps

Megan Easton turns up at the PPD HQ and, to quote one Dr. Sheldon Cooper, “wants to exploit any residual feelings you have for her”. She’s an old high school crush of Nick Vera’s and she wants the murder of her sister 10 years previously (1995) re-examined.

KM UK’s post this week for its Summer Of HD is Ravaged, episode 18 of Cold Case season two. It’s another of those heart-rending stories almost tailor made to speak to Lilly. An alcoholic mother of two struggling to cope with life. Her snow-covered body is found in the alley way behind the bar where she worked.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – August 2013

danny_pino_002_430x180 Somehow I don’t think a mention here is going to cut it as a consolation prize.

Last time out in our CCCC-up we mentioned the possibility of Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) winning an Imagen Award. The event took place a couple of weeks ago and, sadly, neither Danny nor his new show Law & Order: SVU took away any silverware. Castle took the best TV show award and one it stars, Jon Huertas (who plays Javier Esposito), got the nod for best television actor, the category that Danny was in. Monica Raymund of Chicago Fire won for best television actress. Danny is currently filming for the 15th season of L&O:SVU. The first episode is less than a month away as it is due to première on September 25th.

Around the time that Danny was preparing his acceptance speech/just happy to be nominated face, the trailer for the movie McCanick starring Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) was released. This garnered a lot of attention as the film is one of the last projects starring Cory Monteith, most famous for his role on the TV show Glee. Cory died just a month prior to that news. McCanick will premiere at the Toronto Internation Film Festival (TIFF) in early September. Making it doubly poignant, another of Cory films, All The Wrong Reasons, will be first aired at TIFF the day before McCanick. David Morse (The Green Mile) is the titular cop. Rachel Nichols (Resurrecting The Champ, which starred Kathryn) and Ciarán Hinds (Game Of Thrones) also star. Producer/director Josh C. Waller did the same things for Tracie’s other movies of 2013: Raze. The trailer for McCanick can be seen on YouTube HERE.

A last minute addition. Yesterday (28th August), Tracie took part in a special event to mark the 50th anniversary of the mass march on Washington that culminated in Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I have a dream” speech. Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show) is directing a “developmental reading” of Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin, a play by Michael Benjamin. The event, that took pace at La Jolla Playhouse, California, was not open to the public.

A gold ring found on the body of a drug addict leads the Cold Case squad to the long-closed murder case. A rich and successful surgeon loses everything after a close friend dies on his operating table. Schadenfreude. The dead man’s wife takes him to the cleaners. More Schadenfreude. The doc’s well insured wife is killed in their home. Even more Schadenfreude. The jury in the 1982 case doesn’t believe his story about a pair of intruders. Yet still more Schadenfreude. It’s a veritable smorgasbord of Schadenfreude.

It’s a new post in KM UK’s Summer Of HD 2013 but the name of the episode escapes me…
