Kathryn @ THR’s Next Gen Event – November 2002

hollywood_the_next_generation_001It has been only two weeks since our last visit to nostalgia corner.  As strange a place as it can be on this occasion it is following the normal rules of the passage of time.

Two weeks after the previously covered Nintendo Platinum GameCube launch party Kathryn was at the annual The Hollywood Reporter Honors Its “Hollywood: The Next Generation” event.

The 2013 edition of this event happened yesterday (6 November 2013).  In 2002 it was on the 5th of the month.

The “Next Generation” in question are mainly 35 under 35 executives working across the entertainment industry whether it be in legal or marketing departments, management, or production.  In the past they’ve also included separate sections for actors and actresses.  In 2012 it was 5 of each sex.  This year it appears to be just 5 in total across both genders.

What is not clear from my investigations is whether Kathryn was one of the chosen few in the class of 2002.  I suspect not.  If you know otherwise please let us know.  A few celebs are invited to the event, the always delightful Kristin Davis (Sex & The City) was there in 2002 as well for instance.

Anyway, we have updated the Gallery with 8 photos of Kathryn attending the do.

The Coin’s Future Firms Up

LA_Firm_Inc_UK_Issue_29On Thursday Fabien Martorell, the director of the film The Coin, reminded us via Twitter that the short will be featuring in the Underexposed Film Festival in a couple of weeks.  KM UK covered the initial announcement previously.  Exact details of the screening will be posted here nearer the time.

I understand that The Coin will be shown at even more festivals in the coming months, both in the US and abroad.  KM UK will be reporting on those as soon as the news breaks.

In the meantime this is a good opportunity to bring to you a review by Darcell Carraway of LA Firm Inc Magazine of the 8 minute feature starring Kathryn, Christopher Lloyd (Piranha 3DD) and young Jack Ryan Shepherd.

“Kathryn Morris was electrifying…”

Los Angeles Firm Inc Magazine is an online and print publication that “cover[s]… all facets of [the] commercial entertainment industry” including fashion and movies.  Darcell is the CEO of Los Angeles Firm Inc, Editor In Chief of the magazine, and Creative Director of sister company Victoria Marie Fashion.  Darcell has very kindly allowed KM UK to host a high quality copy of the double page spread from the UK version of the magazine (see top right) for you all to see.  You can find it in the Gallery.  The article is primarily a profile of Fabien but ends with this glowing review of The Coin:

Not every critic has the same view and not every person doing films is cut out for it.  When I first sat down to watch The Coin, I was very anxious to see it.  I was very impressed by the quality of the presentation.  However, more importantly the acting was amazing.  I felt center stage at the theatre the whole way through.  Our recommendations are based solely on our appreciation for effortless brilliance and art.  The crazed mother played by Kathryn Morris was electrifying for lack of better words while Christopher Llyod [sic] was stellar in his role as the guardian angel.  We rank this short film with some of the elite blockbusters from the 80’s and 90’s like 48 hrs. or even Misery.  I find a very alluring and passion filled director in Fabien Martorell.  Classic in plain english [sic].

Darcell Carraway

Many thanks to Darcell for his generosity.  You can find out more about LA Firm Inc Magazine via their Facebook page HERE.

Kathryn @ Jerry Bruckheimer Book Launch – Update

jerry_bruckheimer_book_launch_001Hello mummy!

Someone in LA got a few bucks for babysitting last night (29 October 2013) because Kathryn and Johnny were out at a public event for the first time (that we know of) since the birth of their twin sons in August.  They tore themselves aware from childcare duties to attend the launch party for a new book about the prolific film and television producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The tome, Jerry Bruckheimer: When Lightning Strikes – Four Decades Of Filmmaking, covers Bruckheimer’s career from an early stint in advertising to producing some of the most successful movies and television shows in Hollywood history.  The Pirates Of The Caribbean films, the CSI TV shows, Top Gun, Bad Boys, The Amazing Race, Pearl Harbor, National Treasure, Coyote Ugly, Con Air etc. etc. etc. were produced by him.  And Cold Case of course.  Some of those big film series are getting further sequels in the coming years too.

jerry_bruckheimer_book_launch_002Written by Michael Singer, a long time collaborator of Bruckheimers, with publicist credits in many of his productions, and with a foreword by Johnny Depp, the book is due for launch in the US at the end of December.  It is listed on Amazon’s US website HERE (other book stores are available).

Amazon’s UK arm has it down for release in mid-December, as seen HERE.  Suck on that America! :-)

So far we only have 2 small photos of Kathryn at the book launch.  Both have been added to the Gallery.  I’ll endeavour to find larger versions and bring them to you.

Update (2 Nov):  Both the photos have now been super-sized.  Many thanks to the lovely Alexia from the lovely emilia-fox.com, which is all about the lovely actress Emilia Fox, and her lovely, yet nameless, friend for helping out with this.  Lovely.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – October 2013

tracie_thoms_001_430x180This CCCC-up update (where KM UK reports on the careers of the other key players from the long running show) was looking like it could be shorter than most but Tracie has come through for us yet again!  Phew!

The big news for Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) is that she will be starring in a big screen version of the musical Annie for big studio Sony Pictures.  Lots of other big names are involved with a cast that includes Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained), Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary), Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), and Rose Byrne (Damages).  Husband and wife team Will and Jada Smith are producing it through their own Overbrook Entertainment along with Mr Beyonce, Jay-Z, who is unsurprisingly involved with the music too.  Dorian Missic (Southland) and Tracie will be playing Annie’s fake parents.  Annie herself will be the wonderfully named Quvenzhané Wallis who shot to fame in Beasts Of The Southern Wild and can currently be seen in 12 Years A Slave.  Last week the women fighting for their lives film Raze, which stars Tracie, Zoe Bell (Hollywood stuntwoman extraordinaire), Rachel Nichols (G.I. Joe: Rise Of The Cobra), and Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks) finally got a première showing in LA at the SpectreFest event.  On a slightly different tack the cult favourite TV show Wonderfalls from 2004 gets a proper full series DVD release in the UK today, years after America.  It’s HERE on Amazon UK (other DVD retailers are available).  It was one of Tracie’s earliest roles.

A trailer has been released for the movie Death Valley, starring Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera in CC).  You can see the video, which is not for the squeamish or sensitive, on the official website HERE.  Following on from last week’s theme of our CC cast not appearing in trailers for films that they are in, Jeremy is not even glimpsed in any of the 97 seconds the video runs for.  The trailer reveals Death Valley to be a stark warning against the perils of drinking and driving.  Take an old car and liquor into the desert with your friends for a good time and it is just inevitable that a scantily-clad woman will come running at you brandishing a gun and ending up dead.  That’s what happens right?  It’s what all the public information films and parents warn you about!  Remember kids: don’t drink and drive!  The cast list on the official site has Jeremy’s character named as Lucas Kern.  I’m assuming that is a small typo.  As I’ve previously reported the IMDb version Lucas Shore was likely wrong as a production still of Jeremy in a patrolman’s uniform included a name badge with “Kerns” on it.  At the time of writing is no sign yet of a release date for Death Valley, which also stars Katrina Law (Spartacus), Lochlyn Munro (Scary Movie), Victoria Pratt (Mutant X), Nick Tarabay (Spartacus) and Kelly Hu (guest star in nearly every TV show ever!).

Kathryn @ Ninten-do – October 2002

nintendo_003Welcome back to KM UK’s nostalgia corner.

We’re on the verge a new era of computer game consoles as Sony and Microsoft lock controllers in the battle to be the best of the 8th generation machines.  The Xbox One (stupid name for the 3rd version) and PlayStation 4 (predictable name for the fourth) will be both hit the shelves in the coming month, varying slightly depending on manufacturer and region.  I’ve not forgotten the Wii U launched a year ago, but everyone else appears to have done so.

Here we look back to the re-launch of a much loved 6th generation machine: the Nintendo GameCube.  By this time the PS2 had been around a couple of years.  The actual Xbox 1 was approaching it’s first anniversary, and the increasingly forgotten Sega Dreamcast was already ageing badly at 3.  Being ahead of your time doesn’t always go well.

Nintendo chose to give their GameCube a glittery make-over just prior to the beginning of the all-important holiday period in the United States.  The limited edition Platinum GC received a star-studded send off at Nintendo’s Gone Platinum Party, which took place on October 23rd, 2002.  Eleven years ago!

If you want to launch something cute and shiny, invite someone that really shines and is very cute.  Ladies and gentleman: Kathryn Morris.

See how it all ties up?  I don’t just throw this stuff together you know!

5 photos have been added to the Gallery.
