Cold Case Cast Catch-up – May 2014

danny_pino_001_430x180It is late in the month so it must be time for another edition of KM UK’s look at the on-going careers of the other cast members of Cold Case.

A few days after the last CCCC-up (April 2014) the news broke about the renewal of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (L&O:SVU).  At the time there was some doubt whether the show would return for a 16th season.  I won’t keep you in suspense, because you likely already know, that the SVU was renewed.  Quite how involved Danny Pino (Scotty Valens on CC) will be in the first few episodes is not clear as his character, Det. Nick Amaro, is facing temporary demotion from the squad following several serious incidents.  Nick has gone all Scotty and attacked a suspect.  I don’t watch the show but I understand that Lilly/Scotty ‘shippers’ have finally got to see a glimpse o fwhat that could have looked like when Nick and Det Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish, who, with slight figure and long blonde hair, bears some resemblance to Kathryn/Lilly) were seen together in a way that could be taken as showing a relationship beyond being colleagues has started.

I try to delay the appearance of Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) in the CCCC-up as much as possible but I just have to bow to the inevitable each month.  She’s a phenomenon.  Two weeks ago she went all Simon Cowell and was one of a panel of judges at the Young Auditioners Program.  The scheme was looking for an new actor to join the established stars in the annual 24 Hour Play that will take place in LA in a month’s time.  Alongside the likes of Michael Ealy (Almost Human) and Gillian Jacobs (Community), Tracie helped choose an actor, an understudy, and assistant crew.  Tracie has taken part in such events before.  Last June’s CCCC-up included mention of Tracie working with, amongst others, Sasha Alexander (Rizzoli & Isles) on putting together a brand new stage play in just 24 hours in aid of charity causes supporting education, with a particular emphasis on theatre.

On a completely different tack, albeit still with Tracie, the movie Raze came out on DVD in the US last week (20th May).  In the UK the DVD release is the 16th of June.  The story of Raze involves a group of women held captive and forced to fight each other to the death to save their loved ones.  Lead actress Zoë Bell (best known as a stunt performer on things like Xena) stars with Rachel Nichols (Continuum), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks) and Rosario Dawson (Seven Pounds) and other women.  There are some blokes in there too.  On the same day as the Raze hit the shelves Tracie attended the 15th Anniversary Heroes In The Struggle gala and awards held by the Black AIDS Institute.  Tracie and Kevin Daniels (Modern Family) were among the award presenters at the event that evening.

Tracie’s appearance in the previously mentioned Catfish: The TV Show on MTV in the US is due to air next Wednesday (4th June).  The episode is called “Tracie & Sammie” and apparently involves Tracie getting emotionally involved with a fan called Sammie.  In the trailer for the season Tracie was heard asking about a funeral.

Speaking of TV shows, back in January I posted about Tracie starring in a pilot for the E! network.  The show was called Songbyrd and was about a successful songwriter.  It was loosely based on the life of the celebrated Diane Warren, who was involved in the production.  As you may have guess from the use of the past tense it was announced in the last couple of days that the show won’t be going forward to series.  E! have decided it didn’t really fit with their programming.  There is a chance the show will be picked up by another network.

And to finish off this month’s CCCC-up a new trailer for the new Annie movie has been released.  Tracie has a small role in the film which is due for release just before Xmas in America and elsewhere in the following weeks and months.  Watch this latest taster on YouTube, you won’t see Tracie in it though.

Cold Case S03E08 – Honor HD Screencaps

Cold_Case_S03E08_lilly_083Somewhat appropriately given today’s date (26th May 2014) today we re-visit the Cold Case episode called Honor.

In the US today is Memorial Day, a day of remembrance for members of the American Armed Forces who have died in the service of their country.  In the UK we have a similar day, it is on the 2nd Sunday of November so is not a national holiday, called Remembrance Sunday which is primarily about those lost in the two World Wars.  We have a national holiday today in the UK as well but it is not for any specific reason.

Honor revolves around the death of a Vietnam vet who is killed shortly after returning from the war in early 1973.

We may be marking loss but we can also celebrate a gain with this episode.  Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller on CC) started on the show in this episode and did sterling work through to the end.

This, the latest entry in the KM UK Summer Of HD 2014 brings 132 HD (720p) Lilly screencaps and 6 great promo photos to the Gallery.

2 Br/1 Ba To Be Released In Late 2014

on_set_20120927_009It’s been quite a long time since we last had any news about this project.

Filmed towards the end of 2012 2 Br/1 Ba (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, the description of a dwelling) has been looking for distribution ever since.  The last item KM UK published on this on the discovering of a couple of teaser trailers back in October 2013.

In the past 24 hours news has broken that the film, starring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) and Spencer Grammer (Greek), has been picked up by Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for distribution later this year in the domestic (i.e. the USA) market.  No word so far on other territories.

2 Br/1 Ba is a drama about two roommates (Alexa as Janie and Spencer as Dee) who one day have a very destructive disagreement.  Kathryn has a supporting role as Olivia Morgan, exact details of her relationship with the two co-habitees is not know.

Congrats to all involved.  We look forward to finally seeing the film and KM UK will certainly bring you more news as and when we can.

eBayers Beware

ebay_120x120During one of my recent regular web searches I found a lot of Kathryn-related photos on sale on the online auction site eBay.

I know such things are nothing new but this time some of the items really caught my eye and I wanted to publicise practises used by some sellers of such merchandise.

The first thing that struck me was the number of still photographs from Cold Case that were available.  I was not aware there were that many around.  Also, the fact that they were all described as ‘rare’ is a little rich.  If you are selling printed images online then the rarity is only a trait based on how many you can sell.  The word ‘sexy’ is also bandied about with gay abandon.  Obviously with Kathryn being the chief subject of the images the ‘sexy’ is baked right in there, but there is still a time and a place to use it and this was not it.  Is a shot of Lilly interviewing a suspect in interrogation ‘sexy’?  It is not as though she was untying her hair, loosening a couple of shirt buttons, sitting on a chair the wrong way around, and asking in a husky tone where the perp was at the time of the murder.

Further inspection made me even more suspicious about some these items.  That image of the interrogation room looked very familiar.  A recent-KM-UK-Summer-Of-HD-post level of familiar.  I could actually see the new items going up for sale a few days behind them appearing on this site.  A comparison between some recently added screencaps and the ‘glossy photos’ shows my hunch was right.  Many of these images being sold as high quality photos are just prints of screencaps, created by me for this site, albeit cropped to remove any station idents.  If the scene matches a screencap exactly then the photo has to be taken from that individual video frame.  There is no way a genuine photo taken during the filming can be the same.  It is just not possible.

At this point I should make clear that I am not in any way claiming ownership of these images, that would be wrong.  I am not trying to make money from this site, on the contrary there are costs involved in the hosting etc.

What I am stating is the sellers passing off printed screencaps as ‘rare… glossy photos’ are attempting to dupe buyers.  The quality of the print may be fantastic but if the source is at best a 1920×1080 (that’s 2Mpixel) still taken from a broadcast video then it cannot be described as such.

I attempted to contact several of the eBay sellers about this and, to his/her credit, one of them responded.  The individual thanked me for telling them about this and said they would discuss it with their supplier.  I’ve not heard any more from them.  Some of the auctions were closed and the numbers do seem to have dropped of since then but many remain and more have been added since.  There are also a lot of actual on set stills and publicity photographs on sale.

My reason for this post?  I wanted to alert everyone to this practise in case you were considering purchasing such photos.  Of all the ones I’ve seen I don’t think any couldn’t be found on this site, or elsewhere on the Internet, and printed for yourself.  If you really wanted a high quality, photo-style print you could probably do just as good a job by using your own printer and the right paper or finding someone with a good photo printer to do it for you.  Many high street and online services can also produce glossy prints from any source you have, and all for a lot less money they the sellers on eBay are asking.

‘Carpe Diem’ as they say.  Or should that be ‘crappy, dayum’?  Or just ‘crappy deal’.
