Do You Know The Way To San… Antonio?

san_antonio_film_festival_430x140Short film The Coin is heading South for the summer as it has been selected to be shown at the San Antonio Film Festival which is held, surprise surprise, in San Antonio, Texas.

screenshot_001The festival runs from Monday the 28th of July for a full seven days until Sunday the 3rd of August.

A schedule has not yet been released so we can’t yet say when The Coin will be shown.  I’ll bring you more on that when it happens.

What we do know is that Fabien Martorell’s 9 minute long film will be sharing the billing with 40 other shorts.  There are also an impressive 22 feature films announced to be shown.  I’ve not had a chance to go through the list so I don’t know if any are premières.

At this point I’d link to the festival’s official website HERE and say it has more details, but there is not a lot there about the 2014 festival at the time of writing.

Thanks again to Fabien for letting us know about this.

Any Texans out there that might go along?

Cold Case S03E14 – Dog Day Afternoons HD Screencaps

Cold_Case_S03E14_lilly_21223 years before his 2009 big blue creature feature Avatar, James Cameron co-wrote and directed Aliens, pluralised sequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien.

Not following that pattern at all Cold Case season 3, episode 14 Dog Day Afternoons is not a sequel to the 1975 film crime drama Dog Day Afternoon starring Al Pacino.  The film was based on true events and tells the story of a gay man robbing a bank to raise money to fund an operation for his lover.  It must have have been quiet a progressive film for the time as it covered a same-sex relationship and transgender issues.  As much as wider society has become more accepting of such things, I think a film telling the same story today would still be seen as shocking.  Cold Case was often at the forefront of tackling difficult subjects, using historical events as a back drop.  Dog Day Afternoons is not really one of those, based as it is around a more ‘traditional’ relationship.

Loosely based on the film CC’s Dog Day Afternoons is about the death of a bank teller during a robbery by masked men.  A near-identical repeat crime at the same bank causes the team to review the unsolved 2000 case.

Lilly’s season and a half of apparent abstinence comes to a leather and denim-clad, motorbike-riding surprise end in the shape of Ray.  The lucky beggar got to park his bike at her place, which looks like a nice neighbourhood.  Well, as they don’t say ‘every dog has his way’ 😮  It wasn’t a ‘dog day afternoon’ for him.

As part of KM UK Summer Of HD 2014 we bring you a new set of 218 HD (720p) Lilly screencaps which are now available in the Gallery.

The Coin @ Scarborough Film Fest On Saturday

scarborough_film_festival_935x362A quick reminder for our friends in the East of Canada with a penchant for film.

The short film The Coin which stars Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Who Framed Roger Rabit) Scarborough Film Festival this weekend.  Based in an area of Toronto, Ontario, the festival started on the Tuesday just gone and continues until Sunday.

Fabien Martorell’s 9 minute production will be shown at the Fox Theatre on Queen Street East in a double bill with a feature filmed called Macondo.  The show starts at 7pm on Saturday, 7th June.

Be there.  Or be elsewhere doing something else.  It’s up to you.  It’s your life.  I can’t tell you what to do.  I’m not your mother… or am I? *

Full details of the second running of the Scarborough Film Festival can be found on the event’s website HERE.

 * To clear up any confusion: I am not your mother.

Kathryn Isn’t The 1st Lady?

still_001The no doubt knowledgeable folk (Joe Reid and David Sims in this case) at news website The Wrap have taken the release of the latest Tom Cruise blockbuster movie vehicle, Edge Of Tomorrow, to pronounce on some of his female co-stars.

Joe and David have ranked Tom’s leading ladies in a top 13 based on his films since he last worked with is then wife Nicole Kidman on Eyes Wide Shut in 1999.

Emily Blunt’s character in Edge Of Tomorrow, which is basically War Of The Worlds (the Cruiser’s version) crossed with Groundhog Day, is a lot more forthright than many of the significant female roles in Tom’s other films.  She’s not the comic foil, damsel in distress, or damsel in/out of dat dress.  Clearly this put Emily’s Rita ahead of the pack.  But where do they place Kathryn in this pantheon of actresses?

Kathryn comes in at number 8.  Four slots above Olga Kurylenko in Oblivion.  Cameron Diaz is in the top 10 twice for Knight And Day and Vanila Sky.  Her co-star in that remake, Penelope Cruz (who was reprising her role from the original), is also in there.  Thandie Newton for Mission: Impossible II, Andrea Riseborough also in Oblivion and Michelle Monaghan and in Mission: Impossible 3 fill out the other top spots.

The guys say that Kathryn in “invests a lot of compassion in her performance” in her role as the estranged wife of Tom’s pre-crime cop in Minority Report.  But, they also say that Cold Case “ran for approximately ten thousand years on CBS” so facts may not be a feature of their pieces :-)

Of course few of the other women listed can not claim to have been Tom Cruise’s wife, Brad Pitt’s wife (Moneyball), Ben Affleck’s paramour (Paycheck), and Josh Hartnett’s ex (Resurrecting The Champ).  That is many of Hollywood finest right there.  Not to mention that Kathryn was one of the few foes that bested Xena: Warrior Princess and nearly stole her gal.  And, none of these ladies did seven years on a highly rated TV drama series either!  Not a bad strike rate.

And that’s a wrap!
