Picture the scene: you’ve sat through enough football and tennis the past couple of weeks to bore even the most ardent fan of either sport. England have proved incapable at football, again, and our tennis hero has been re-branded as Scottish. It’s late on Saturday and you need a change of pace from the repeat showing of action films that have filled the evening schedules. What can you do? Fear no longer. Help is at hand.
Murder, She Wrote is not normally late night TV viewing but the UK’s ITV3 channel has decided to try and goose its ratings at the midnight hour by putting on an episode. The episode in question is one of the very last from the 12th and final season, has the title of What You Don’t Know Can Kill You, and sees Kathryn in a guest starring role.
So, if you find yourself up as Saturday becomes Sunday then tune into ITV3 for a bit of gentle sleuthing with Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) and the folks of Cabots Cove, which is clearly one of the most dangerous places in America. England has its own equivalent in Midsomer from Midsomer Murders (one of the most watched shows in the world!) with a body count for the small county that must be past the century in the 100 episodes so far.
Or record it and watch it before the tennis on Sunday.
My detailed review (spoiler alert!) of this Murder, She Wrote episode can be seen in this post from back in 2009. Of course there is also already comprehensive coverage of MSW: WYDKCKY in the KM UK Gallery.
It doesn’t happen often enough but here on KM UK we like to mention appearances of Kathryn’s work on the TV screens of Great Britain in our Media Alert posts. If you spot something upcoming, preferably on channels available on the Freeview system that everyone has access to, then please let me know via the contact form.
For those that can’t wait until the beginning of August to see the short film The Coin there’s good news.
The film has been included in a collection of short films to be shown at the famous Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California, in a couple of weeks. You may recognise the theatre as the one where the première of Cougars, Inc. was held at back in 2011.
Under the banner of ‘Local Shorts’, because all the directors are based in LA, a total of eight films will be shown, three of them are LA premières.
The screening will start at 7:30pm, Thursday, 17th July at the venue on Hollywood Boulevard. Tickets are $11.
You can find more details on the American Cinematheque website. A word of warning: if you choose to watch the trailer for It’s A Lovely Day, don’t do so if you have a headache
Thanks to Fabien Martorell (the writer/director/producer of The Coin) again for letting us know.
Family always comes first! Apart from when it lost to Detention in the week 2 poll! As a result of Family winning the KM UK’s Summer Of HD week 10 poll it will be our featured post next week.
The latest poll sees the return of Colors, Début and The Hen House from Cold Case season 3. Vote now! Or later. You’ve got 7 days.
Mimi Kennedy is one of those actresses you almost certainly recognise (from the image above if nowhere else), even if you don’t know her name. In a career that has so far spanned nearly 4 decades, and is still going strong, Mimi has been in just about everything but is probably best known for her role in the long-running sitcom Dharma & Greg. Mimi played Abby, the ageing hippy mother to Jenna Elfman’s Dharma. Apparently she was originally up for the other mother job in D&G, the uptight Kitty. Instead that went to the equally wonderful Susan Sullivan, who you will know as Martha in the TV show Castle.
Elena (Mimi) goes to the CC squad about the murder of her son Angus back in 1978. At the time it was thought to be a copycat killing, mirroring the newly released movie Halloween. The tensions within a group of friends caused crippling injuries suffered by Angus’s girlfriend in a car crash when he was driving surface. Who was responsible for the crash? Who killed Angus?
In a plot-line lay-by for Will Jeffries (Thom Barry) the case brings up the death of his wife.
An on-set photo and a still accompany 132 HD (720p) Lilly screencaps in the Gallery.
Has it really been 8 days? Amazing! We should celebrate this arbitrary offset in time!
Just over a week ago I posted about a Cold Case-themed app on the Google Play store. It was an extremely poor quality looking word puzzle game. The given description was barely in English and a linked to video was not even related to the TV show beloved of our readers.
My intention in posting was to warn about the dangers of installing such applications on our mobilephones, which contain increasing amounts of personal information. When allowed to apps can access that data, post messages (which could incur charges) or be used in online attacks. How careful are we about that? As I said last week, there is a trick the less scrupulous use of releasing a harmless free app and then later an update which is far less benign. If you’re happy with v1 then why would you question ‘bug fix’ v1.01 update?
I tried to do all that without ridiculing those that, without any critical assessment, sought to encourage installing the app. Others had a different view on it.
Now the only thing notable about the app is its absence from the Google Play store. It ain’t there no more. I can’t remember the name of the developer but I’ve been unable to find any of the other apps they had listed so presumably they have all gone. Did they jump or were they pushed? We have no information to explain why the app was removed. Perhaps it was full of bugs that caused users problems. Maybe an attempted update included malicious code. Or it just violated the T&Cs. We’ll probably never know but someone’s done the right thing.
