KM UK’s 1000th Post!

CC_100th_430x200

Cross out “Cold Case” and add an “0” on the end of the number on the cake.

This is the 1000th post on KM UK.

It has “only” taken five and half years but we’ve made it to the end of our first thousand!

Thank you for being there and getting involved.

Come back tomorrow for 1001.  It’s a special one.

Minority Report – Saturday on BBC2

still_001This is quite a quick turn around for the BBC.  Normally it is at least a year (or as many as three) between showings of the movie Minority Report.

This coming Saturday (22nd November) BBC2 from 23:30 (that’s half eleven in old money) will be graced with a few brief appearances of Kathryn in the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi action film.

Auntie Beeb must have taken a liking to the film as they’re actually accelerating the frequency of broadcasts as it was only back in May of this year that it was last on our screens.  I’m not aware of other films around that it could be tied to in any way.  Often networks broadcast older titles related to new cinema releases.  They must get special rates from the distributor to help with promotion of the latest franchise sequel for instance.  The Hunger Games was recently repeated in the UK on national TV, just ahead of Mockingjay Part 1 hitting the big screens today (Thursday, 20th Nov).

Back in May it was BBC Scotland that had to wait another 25 hours for their chance at watching Minority Report.  I can only assume that due to the recent independence referendum result they’ve now been included in the main showing.  It is BBC Wales that has to suffer a 24.5 hours delay this time.

For those interested (and why wouldn’t you be?) KM UK already has a comprehensive set of HD screencaps and the promo image above in the Gallery.

Full details can be found on the BBC website here.

Exclusive! Kathryn In W.E.I.R.D. World TV Movie

weird_world_223
W.E.I.R.D. World is a weird kind of world. I guess that should be obvious from the title, but it is.

But why W.E.I.R.D. and not just ‘weird’?  To misquote from the pilot episode of the hit TV show Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.:

Hill:  What does W.E.I.R.D. stand for Agent Ward?
Ward:  Wilson Emery Institute for Research and Development.
Hill:  And what does that mean to you?
Ward:  That someone really wanted our initials to spell weird.

Made in 1995, W.E.I.R.D. World the TV movie was almost certainly a pilot for a planned TV series.  For what ever reason the TV series was not picked up.  The basic set up screams for ‘thing of the week’, much like The X-Files but contained within a particular place.  A sort of early version of another Sci-fi channel TV series Eureka (aka A Town Called Eureka) crossed with 1950s B-movies. The Sci-fi channel wanted to tap into the X-Files success with this.

weird_world_006The film is certainly going for it in terms of the cast and those behinds the scenes. You’ve got Ed O’Neill (Modern Family), Dana Ashbrook (Twin Peaks), and Paula Marshall (Spin City), amongst others in front of the camera.  Director William Malone had done episodes of the Freddy’s Nightmares and Dark Justice TV shows.  The executive producers included Hollywood big hitters like Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon), Walter Hill (The Warriors), Joel Silver (Die Hard), and Robert Zemeckis (Back To The Future). With that kind of serious movie making power behind it how could it fail…?

There was a time when Ed O’Neill was famous as Al Bundy, the deadbeat husband and father in the long running and massively successful sitcom Married With Children.  Al’s wife was the larger than life Peggy (Katey Sagal, Sons Of Anarchy), known for her figure hugging outfits and her… appetite for and willingness to be disappointed by… little Al.  They also had a smart son (and a dumb, but hot daughter).

weird_world_031Luckily Ed has managed to escape all that with an almost unheard of new sitcom called Modern Family.  In this new role Ed is Jay, a successful in business older husband to the larger than life younger wife Gloria (Sofia Vergara), known for her figure hugging outfits… you get the picture.  They also have a smart son.  Where do these TV creatives get their ideas?

In W.E.I.R.D. World Ed is Dr. Monochian, the bald and goatee bearded head of the institute, a secret government funded research facility investigating all kinds of crazy science stuff.  They push the boundries of genetics, viruses, robotics, artificial intelligence etc. Kathryn is Dr M’s assistant, Lucy.

weird_world_058The plot is too convoluted and daft to even try and sum up in a post like this.  We’ve got a scientist killed by a colleague, a big mechanical security robot (nothing can go wrong there then!), age regression (middle-aged man into young boy), sexual intrigue, a chief security officer on the take, time travel and even Albert Einstein.  It’s all packed into the 90 minute running time.  20 years later it looks its age with poor special effects and dated technology.  It probably didn’t look too great in 1995 either.

Kathryn’s role is relatively small but she appears in various scenes throughout.  Initially Lucy seems sweet but there is a steeliness there.  She knows more about the science than would be necessary for someone that just answers the phone, and is quite the manipulator.   She has goals beyond keeping the boss’s schedule and will get what she wants.  As Dr M’s second pair of eyes-and-ears she needs to know what is going on and can use her free rein and wiles to stay on top of it all.

weird_world_157By the end of the film everything is set up for the TV series that never happened.  The main characters were assembled and their complex relationships defined.  All it needed was a new

Somehow, after much searching I managed to hunt down a copy of this film.  It is small and very low quality but I have put together a collection of screenshots of Kathryn as Lucy.  These are now exclusively available in the KM UK Gallery.

Come back next week for some exclusive videos of Kathryn’s performance in W.E.I.R.D. World.

EMAs 2010 Update 2

arrivals_085I could have sworn I’d posted an update on this event relatively recently.  Turns out it was back in October 2011.

Looking back at that post I was tempted just to copy it in its entirety, tweak the dates a little, and pass it off as new.  The content is still applicable today: we still miss Kathryn, the Environment Media Association Awards happened again in mid-October, and Kathryn did not attend to our knowledge.

As the weather continues its plunge towards winter I thought it was a good time to bring a little heat to KM UK.  Few things embody heat that Kathryn at the EMAs in 2010.  Phew! Wot a scorcher!

KM UK’s Gallery already has very comprehensive coverage of Kathryn’s arrival, on stage presenting, and backstage posing at the event.  Videos included.  Today we make it even more comprehensive-er by adding 15 more arrival photos and two more videos!

The first video is another red carpet interview (our 4th) in which Kathryn espouses the virtues of more efficient home appliances and using solar power generators at work.  Of course in the winter she could just raise the temperature of a room by walking in to it 😛  If it is too hot for you, crank up the AC or open a window.

A more general series of shots presented by Toyota (you can just about make out their sponsorship logos in the photos if you can see past the beauty) of the event make up the second video.  Kathryn appears briefly.

So, that’s 15 more photos, 2 videos and HD (720p) screencaps from the first first now in the Gallery.  Enjoy.

The Coin @ Enfoque On Friday

gold_coast_international_film_festival_851x315Having decrypted the cunning Only Connect picture round-style puzzle (hi Vicky!) I determined when The Coin will be shown at the Enfoque International Film Festival for a previous post.

screenshot_001The answer was that the short film by Fabien Martorell would be shown at the Puerto Rico celebration of films from around the world on Friday the 14th.

That would be this coming Friday, making this a reminder with just a few days to go for any of you that might be in a position to… err… go.

Those wishing to see Christopher Lloyd (Roger Rabbit) and Kathryn in the 9 minute long drama need to go to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in… err… Puerto Rico at 7:30pm.

More details can be found at the festival’s website here.
