Cold Case Guest Star Reddit AMAs

Welcome to 2015.  How has yours been so far?

I thought we’d start the year with something a little different.

‘Todd Smitts’, a very active member of the Cold Case fan community, has let me know about some CC related items he thought others might like to be informed of.  I’m always happy to help out so here we go.

Several guest stars on Cold Case have Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ chat sessions scheduled for the coming week.  Being an old fogey I’m not too familiar with Reddit, but I am sure that you are.  I’m still trying to figure out where the paper goes in this fancy typewriter! :-)

I’ll let him tell you in his own words:

Amber Benson (Julia Hoffman in “Volunteers“, but better known as Tara on “Buffy”) will be doing hers at 3 PM Eastern time on Jan 5.  Johnathon Schaech (Julian Bellowes in “Libertyville“) will be doing his at 4 PM Eastern on Jan 6.

This is great opportunity to ask them about their time working on the show (or anything else you know them from).  Since “Libertyville” happen to be one of my favorite episodes, I’ll definitely be making time for both of those.  I previously got to ask Michael Harney (also from “Volunteers“) and Lindy Booth (the doer from “Wings“) about their guest spots, so I’ll look forward to it.

Looking at the list of the upcoming AMAs I spotted Yara Shahidi who played the 2009 flashback Meesha Sullivan in Cold Case season 7, episode 7, Read Between The Lines.  Yara’s session is scheduled for 5pm (EST) on 7th Jan.

You can find the Reddit IAmA page HERE.

Thanks to ‘Todd’ for letting me know about this.  If you have something you think fellow Kathryn/Cold Case fans would like to know about please let me know using the Contact form.

Happy New Year!

I hope you will all join us in 2015.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – December 2014

promo_003Instead of a round-up of the news on the non-Kathryn cast of Cold Case, this month we’re doing more of a round-up of the round-ups.  A fairly traditional thing to do this time of year across all sections of the media.

Let’s go alphabetical (by first name as we’re all friends) for a change.

Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) started  the year part way through his 3rd season on the police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.  He ends the year in the same position in his fourth.  I don’t watch the show so I can’t really comment on the character or the show but I understand Detective Amaro has featured in a significant story line that ran across the two seasons.  These 20+ episode season, major network shows take-up most of the year to make so there isn’t a lot of time for other projects.  We haven’t seen Danny take any that I know of.  In June Danny was one of the nominees for a Imogen Award, which recognise those promoting Latino culture in the media.  He didn’t win this time.  Check out our friends over at Danny Pino Online for all the latest info on Danny.

Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera in CC) is another that hasn’t stuck his head above the parapet too often in 2014.  A movie called Death Valley that JR filmed in 2013 constantly looked like it might finally surface but, beyond a screening in July, never did.  Jeremy’s role appears to be that of a police officer.  Jersey Boys, a film adaptation of the stage play about the ’60s group The Four Seasons, was released mid-year to some acclaim.  Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven) directed and Christopher Walken (Catch Me If You Can) starred.  Jeremy had a small role in that as… wait for it… a police officer.  More recently we’ve had news on a couple of other roles for JR.  A significant role in a short film called Keep It Together in which a now sober, soon to be father strives to save his uncle (Jeremy) from drinking himself to death.  The other is a small role in a larger film called Give Til It Hurts.  Two brothers seek to recover their inheritance.  Jeremy is cast as ‘Elvis’.  Both are due for release in 2015.

John Finn (Lt. John Stillman in CC) fans were disappointed in January when the Irish drama series An Bronntanas failed to materialise as expected.  Like a small boat full of drugs and a dead body caught in a storm, the show was tossed about a lot.  Would it be a series, edited down to a feature film length, or lost at sea?  Eventually the show found its mooring as originally intended on the TGS TV network as a 5 part series starting in late October.  John played a… wait for it… police officer investigating the life boat crew that found the stash of drugs and the dead woman.  A TV show pilot headed by John Cusack (2012) about Wall Street in which John was due to star in some capacity never made it further.  It could have been in the current 2014/2015 season.  In better news John had guest starring roles in the short lived show Believe early in the year and, more recently, in the new CBS drama Madam Secretary.  At this time there is no signs of future projects for John, but no doubt there is something in the pipeline.

Thom Barry (Will Jeffries in CC) was announced as a recurring guest star in the TNT crime drama Perception, lead by Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) and Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That).  The news broke just after the show’s third season started airing in June of this year.  10 episodes later the show went on hiatus until February 2015 with no sign of Thom.  There are due to be 5 episodes to conclude what will be the final season for the show.  Thom is to play an senior FBI agent.  There were reports, no oddly difficult to find, that Thom was to play the father of R&B star Aaliyah in a Lifetime network TV movie about her life.  The show aired a few weeks ago but Thom was not in it.  I’m still not sure what happened there.  Just last month I reported on Thom starring in a short film called Desire.  It was looking for crowdfunding at the time.  Despite not reaching its target it went into production.  The latest is that Desire is in the process of being edited.  Back in May of 2013 I described a film called Richard Peter Johnson as the having a “triple-whammy name” that “says everything, yet tells us nothing”.  Things have been largely quiet since but is still actively seeking buyers to distribute it.  I still don’t think I can go into details on the film here on KM UK though.

Which brings us to our last, and anything but least, subject…

Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC).  It’s almost impossible to briefly sum up Tracie’s year as she has featured strongly in nearly all our CCCC-ups in 2014.  Is there a word above ‘prolific’?  Tracie came out of her corner punching with the release of women-fighting-for-their-lives movie Raze on some VOD services.  The UK saw the DVD mid-year.  Drama McCanick, in which Tracie had a small role, was similarly available on VOD and DVD in various parts of the world in 2014.  She was in a short film that was broadcast on HBO called A Different Tree.  Not content with being in films Tracie allowed her house to be used as a set for another called 2 Black Dudes.  Then it was off to film another small role in the film The Concessionaires Must Die, which is still pending release.  The new movie version of the classic Annie on the other hand was released a little earlier than intended.  The massive hacking of Sony Pictures lead to the film being leaked online a few weeks before the official launch.  Much of the world has already had the opportunity to sit in a cinema to watch it, with everywhere else seeing releases in the coming month or so.  TV viewers got to see Tracie in guest starring roles in the comedy show Veep and the… what ever it is… MTV show Catfish: The TV Show.  This year saw Tracie back treading the boards in the For The Record: Tarantino show, which show cased various musical numbers from Quentin Tarantino movies, as well as being the co-star in the new play Lost Lake, which came to the end of its run just last week.  As if that wasn’t enough Tracie is to star in a new web series due to go into production next year called Send Me.  And she hosted the Second Annual Hero Awards Gala in September and was in another 24 hour play (that’s 24 hours from initial idea to first performance, not a play that lasts 24 hours).  Got all that?

Phew!

See you next year.

KM UK Xmas Message 2014

newport_beach_001How does this go…?

Oh yes…

Happy Xmas!

2014 has been a relatively quiet year on the Kathryn-front but we’ve still had plenty to talk about.  Here is the KM UK round-up of 2014.

poster_002The winner of the most talked about project award goes to The Coin, the short film by Fabien Martorell (writer/director/producer) starring Kathryn, Christopher Lloyd (Taxi) and young Jack Ryan Shepherd.  The Coin featured in a dozen film festivals across the year, a process it started after premièring in mid-2013.  It must say something about the 9 minute long film that it continued to be accepted by festivals all over the world, including France and England.  What’s more Fabien’s mini-drama won three best short film awards and one for best director along the way.  It is like a good ‘bad penny’ that just keeps turning up.  Very much the little movie that could.  We’ve not heard the last of it yet, despite Fabien’s focus having shifted to promoting his new short film Unbelief.  Evidence of that is a newly updated 3rd poster and 3rd trailer (both now in the Gallery).  There will no doubt be more to say in 2015 as well.

Thanks go to Fabien for his assistance during the year on all things The Coin related.

We also have to thank The Coin for giving us Kathryn’s only public appearance of 2014 (see photo above).  Kathryn attended the Newport Film Festival in April along with Fabien, Jack and Will Kemp.  Will has a small role in The Coin and was also a co-producer.  Of course we know Will from when he worked with Kathryn in the movie Mindhunters, not to be confused with the Cold Case season 2 episode Mind Hunters.

Three other projects starring Kathryn that we first talked about in 2013 or before bubbled up a few times during ’14.

Drama 2 Br/1 Ba looked like it might make an appearance before the end of this year after a distribution deal was announced with Grindstone Entertainment and Lionsgate.  A little bird tells me that things are progressing towards a spring release for 2 Br/1 Ba.  More on that when we can bring it to you.  It’s on the list of projects to throw things at in 2015 :-)

In July 2013 Kathryn filmed something called The Protocol.  Her partner and father of her twin boys, Johnny Messner, apparently also starred in it and his own production company was said to be involved.  Exactly what The Protocol was, beyond a near-future drama, was not clear at the time.  It might be have been a short film or a TV show pilot.  An appearance in September of The Protocol on IMDb as a TV series of unknown episodes nailed it down somewhat.  This was followed by lead actress Xen Sia doing an interview at the September New York Comic Con in which she talked about it.  Despite describing The Protocol as being “syndicated all over the world” we’ve not seen any further mention.  Another on the ‘to do list’ for 2015.  It will comply or be banished :-)

Horror movie director Dante Tomaselli’s remake of his own uncle’s scary classic Alice Sweet Alice had gone quiet quiet quiet but came back with a BANG and a surprise appearance on IMDb back in February.  Since then it’s been quiet quiet quiet again.  Its lying in wait for the production to get the go ahead and Dante to make time for it.  Kathryn’s linked to this project as an actress playing the mother of the lead character and at the producer level.  The torch is ready to check the dark corners for this in 2015 :-)

And now to upcoming films we first learnt about this year.

In August there was news that Kathryn had joined the cast of movie drama The Perfect Guy, starring Michael Ealy (Almost Human) and Sanaa Lathan (Nip/Tuck).  The filming was just about to start.  We know that Kathryn is playing Karen, a close friend of the main character Leah (Sanaa).  Leah ends a relationship and then meets ‘the perfect guy’.  As this is a movie it can’t be that simple, and it isn’t.  He goes all psycho stalker on her.  Since the news broke we’ve had various updates on release dates across Europe from October 2015.  No news on the home territory of the US of A as yet though.  The likelihood is that The Perfect Guy will be out there before everywhere else so I’m thinking August/September.  Now we’ve heard about this film we will not be leaving it alone :-)

People sometimes say that the process of making a particular movie, often a big epic, could form the basis of a movie in of itself.  Bone Tomahawk could almost be one of those.  It is not a huge, multi-million dollar, blockbuster epic but it has had a protracted development.  Prior to it coming onto our radar in September when Kathryn was added to the cast, the film had already had a full cast announced two years earlier.  Delays and scheduling conflicts caused re-castings.  Further delays meant that some of the original cast were now free to re-take their roles.  One constant has been Kurt Russell (Sky High), he’s been connected to the film from the beginning.  Kurt will play a Wild West Sheriff setting out with a rag-tag crew to rescue hostages taken by cannibalistic cave dwellers.  It’s a horror western.  Kathryn will have another small role as the wife of Kurt’s Sheriff Hunt.  Production wrapped back in October.  With Bone Tomahawk and Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight (also starring Kurt Russell) due out next year, 2015 could be big year for Westerns.  The KM UK horses are saddled-up and ready to ride into the sunset for the 2015 release of Bone Tomahawk :-)

On more personal note Kathryn’s twin boys, Jameson and Rocco, had their first birthday in August.  No doubt this Xmas will be much more fun for them than the last one as they’ll be far more aware of what going on.  It’s all about the kids really.

I think that wraps up our round-up of KM UK in 2014.  Feel free to leave comments on your highlights of 2014.

Thank you to everyone that’s visited during 2014, especially those that have contributed in some way.  It is all very much appreciated.

Let’s be careful out there, be good to yourself and each other, don’t have nightmares, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do, boldly go where no man has gone before.

Women In Entertainment Breakfast, Dec 2010 – 4th Helpings

063One of the many good things about the Xmas period is all the repeats.  Or, ‘bringing back classics’ as we prefer to call it.

KM UK never likes to buck a trend so we’ll make no apologies to returning to a… firm… favourite 😉  We last visited this particular public appearance three years ago.  12 months ago we looked back at Kathryn’s appearance at the 2006 running of The Hollywood Reporter’s Annual ‘Power 100: Women In Entertainment Breakfast’.  Sadly, despite the evidence so far, Kathryn is not on a 4-year cycle for this event.  She was a no-show for last week’s latest get together.

Considering our chosen event took place in early December of 2010 it is remarkably un-cold looking.  Obviously Kathryn looks hot, that almost went without saying, but even Los Angeles must have cooler days.  No sign of a chill in the air on that day 😉

For those currently afflicted with wintery weather hopefully this new update with 20 more photos (48-67 in the Gallery) and a video of Kathryn’s arrival on red carpet will warm you up somewhat.  Southern-hemisphere dwellers may need to crank up the AC!  Enjoy them all now in the Gallery.

Same time next year?
