Two weeks from this coming Friday sees the start of the Speechless Film Festival, held in Mankato, Minnesota.
The screening schedule for the event has been released so we get to see when we can get to see Fabien Martorell’s short film The Coin.
7pm on the 20th at the Cine Grand is the first opportunity. For those with VIP Festival Passes, which entitle you see everything as well as getting access to some VIP lounges, there is a 2nd screening at Studio Six on the Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
The Coin will be one of a five films grouped under the banner “Young Drama”. The others in the set are also American, apart from one British interloper. Elsewhere the festival has a more international feel with films from Canada, Turkey, Israel, the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Iran, Poland, and Romania and Bulgaria.
As well as the more basic genre descriptions (documentary, thriller, animation etc.) the various categories of film include titles such as “The Gauntlet“, “Solitare”, “Tales Of Passion” and “Visual Music”.
Tickets and information about the festival can be found on the official website HERE.
Things are still relatively quiet on the news front regarding the other members of the cast of Cold Case. Like the month itself February 2015’s CCCC-up will be short and cold… I mean sweet.
Luckily for us Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller on CC) is always busy. Back in the October 2014 CCCC-up we brought you news of a web series that Tracie was due to start working on. At the time Send Me was seeking funding via Indiegogo. Over a couple of weeks at the beginning of this month principal photography (that’s filming to you and me) took place on the project about Gwen (Tracie) who has the power to send people back in time. Gwen uses this ability to teach individuals about slavery in the US by transporting them to the 1800s to witness it first-hand. As well as Ms. Thoms the show has a starry cast: Gabrielle Carteris (90210), Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy), Jasika Nicole (Fringe), Ahmed Best (Dexter), Kevin Daniels (Sirens), and Steve Harper (Chico & Rita) are amongst them. Steve also wrote and produced Send Me. The crew will be deep into post-production now. Hopefully, in the next CCCC-up, due at the end of March, we’ll know more about the release plans.
Over a couple of CCCC-ups last year (starting in June) I covered the news that big Thom Barry was signed to guest star in the TNT drama series Perception, led by Eric McCormack (Trust Me) and Rachael Leigh Cook (Antitrust). Thom was said to be appearing as an FBI field office boss. Subsequent CCCC-ups noted Thoms absence as the season progressed. Having just returned from the mid-run hiatus there are now only 4 episodes left of the entire series. Fingers crossed. On a related note: congratulations to Rachael and her husband on the news they are expecting their second child later this year.
Last week we had the 2005 ADGA (Art Directors Guild Awards). Today we’ve skipped B and gone straight to the CDGA, aka the Costume Designers Guild Awards. We’ve also skipped on by 12 months by taking another look at the event in 2006. Previously a set of photos were posted here in a 2010 update.
Kathryn was at the CDGA in 2005 supporting Cold Case costume designer Patia Prouty who worked on the show across the first three seasons. The premiere, Look Again, being the notable exception. Despite being nominated for the CDG Award three times between 2005 and 2007 Patia did not take the gold.
Since leaving CC Patia has worked on TV dramas Saving Grace and Justified. Currently she is designing costumes for the Cinemax series Banshee, starring, amongst others, Lili Simmons and Geno Segers. Both of those actors will be in the movie Bone Tomahawk, which Kathryn has a small role in. It’s a small world.
The 2015 CDGA happened a week ago. American Horror Show, Games Of Thrones and True Detective won in their respective TV categories. Films du jour Birdman, Into The Woods and The Grand Budapest Hotel took the honours for movies.
A new (to the Gallery) photo of Kathryn looking very fetching in an off-the-shoulder red dress at the Costume Designers Guild Awards in 2006 is now in the KM UK Gallery.
Plus, you lucky people, we have 2 short videos of Kathryn on the red carpet at the event, the 2nd is an interview.
And the winner is… All of us!
We’d like to accept this award on behalf of all of us. Thank you to everyone that made it possible. Who ever invented the camera, the digital camera, the Internet, Twitter, Instagram, the party organisers, Hollywood, that white dog with a bullseye for an eye (what’s that about?), our parents, (and Johnny)…
Kathryn (and Johnny) attended the 2015 Motion Picture & Television Fund’s annual The Night Before The Oscars Party party. As she (and Johnny) did in 2013.
Johnny very helpfully posted a copy of a photo of the lovely couple (and Johnny) on his Instagram feed. Many thanks to him. It has instantly become our favourite photo of Kathryn (and Johnny) in 2015 😉
It is in the KM UK Gallery.
Hopefully I’ll be able to update with more later.
That’s not what I said! Read it again
Bit out of nowhere this one.
Fabien Martorell’s short film The Coin yesterday started a series of nightly screenings at an event running alongside the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015, currently being held in the Swedish city of Falun.
Falun is about 115 miles (180km) north west of Sweden’s capital Stockholm.
When you have a big thing like a world championship taking part in a region you need to entertain the many visitors during the time they are not watching the sport. Cultural festivals, concerts etc. are often put on do just that.
The Bryggcaféet café in Falun has teamed up with the Peace & Love Film Festival to host the screening of a short film festival each evening from 6pm. With The Coin there are six other films from around the world, including Smog Journeys from China and Matthew Modine’s Jesus Was Commie. The screenings continue until the end of the championships on the 1st of March.
Thanks to Fabien for dropping this bombshell early on a Saturday morning
