The Perfect Guy Previewed @ CinemaCon

Having just survived the annual influx of the broadcast industry for the NAB show, Las Vegas has now seen off the other end of the chain with the CinemaCon event ending yesterday (23rd April).

Now in its fifth year, CinemaCon is a convention for the National Association Of Theatre Owners, the companies that run the cinema chains we see in our towns.  I always thought that NATO had more important issues to deal with :-)

As part of the event the movie studios/distributors show previews of upcoming film releases, allowing the theatres to decide what they will purchase for putting on the big screen.

On Tuesday Sony Pictures gave a presentation covering some of their wares for 2015 and beyond.  The new James Bond film Spectre was bound to steall the limelight, albeit with a non-action sequence preview clip.  There were plenty of other movies mentioned too, such as Seth Rogen comedy Xmas; Jodie Foster-directed, George Clooney-staring thriller Money Monster; and Ricki And The Flash, which has Meryl Streep playing a reasonably successful rock star who gives up life on the road to be with her grown-up daughter.  Sounds odd but it’s Meryl so you know she’ll be good regardless.

One of the smaller films previewed, and the reason for this post, was The Perfect Guy, which stars Sanaa Lathan (The Cleveland Show) and Michael Ealy (Almost Human).  Kathryn has a small role in the film as a friend of Sanaa’s Leah character.  Leah finds herself under attack from Ealy’s Carter after breaking off a brief relationship with him.  Ex goes psycho, basically.

Anyway, here’s what HitFix’s Gregory Ellwood had to say about what he saw of The Perfect Guy:

If this movie was just about Sanaa Lathan’s character falling for Michael Early’s character that might make for an interesting dramatic romance. The fact Early’s character turns into a psychopath drew laughs from the audience.

Ooooookaaaay…. time to re-work it as a comedy?

You can read Gregory’s full run-down of the Sony previews on the HitFix website HERE.

The Perfect Guy is set for a world wide cinema release later this year with the US starting in September.

The Coin @ Philly Indie Film Fest Tomorrow

philadelphia_independent_film_festival_poster_1330x2048It’s another of KM UK’s classic ‘quick reminders’ which tend to drag on, thereby ending up anything other than quick :-)

Perhaps this time will be different.  It’s not looking good so far though :-)

As previously posted about the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival started last Friday and continues until Saturday (25th), though at this stage it is not clear what is happening beyond Thursday.

Tomorrow sees the Fabien Martorell short film The Coin receiving its public outing.  The event will be at the University Of The Art’s Levitt Theater on Broad Street, starting at 6:20pm.  Also on the bill in the 70 minute screening is Fabien’s latest short Unbelief.

More information can be found on the official website.

I think you got off lightly there :-)

A-musing Reminder Of Doctored History

on_set_001It’s been a while since we had reason to post about the not picked up TV drama pilot The Surgeon General.  Not since the last time in fact :-)

In July of 2013 we saw the surprise (and possibly accidental) publication of a promo video for the show.  By then we already knew the show had not been selected for the 2013-2014 TV season by the CBS network.  That decision was clear (largely by omission from announcements, but also by director Rod Lurie Tweeting about it) a couple of months earlier.

Much like the promo video release we can still get the occasional pleasant surprise, even 2 years later.

Rod Lurie spent a bit of time yesterday (18th April) reminiscing on his Tweeter feed with photos from various projects he’s been involved with over the years.  One of them (now in the Gallery) was the one you see above.  That is Rod and Kathryn on the set of The Surgeon General.

Rod should be well known to all Kathryn fans because she has been in most of his feature films.  She starred in Deterrence, The Contender, The Last Castle (in scene that didn’t make the final edit) and Resurrecting The Champ.  For a long time I’ve thought of Kathryn as probably being Rod’s muse.  He’s now confirmed my feelings by posting the above photo with the message:

#KathrynMorris is closest person I have to a muse. In 4 of my films. Here I direct her in a pilot  #SurgeonGeneral.

Hopefully they’ll work together again soon.

Thanks to Rod for the trip back down memory lane.

Ciné Tele Revue – April 2010

cine_tele_revue_001_coverDifficult to argue with a cover line like that :-)

And thank you Kathryn, we are delighted to be invited into your home.

My translations skills aren’t good but I think that covers the… cover.

Today we’re taking another seasonal look back, this time to the French-language Belgian magazine Ciné Tele Revue from April of 2010.

I have 3 images of the piece (now in the Gallery).  Unfortunately they are little too small to comfortably read the bulk of the text.  The headlines and quotes are easy enough though.  Please forgive any errors, and feel free to correct me in comments below.

I learned to let go,” (J’ai apprise à me lâcher) says the article title.  Not sure what that refers to specifically.  Cold Case?  Inhibitions?  David Barrett (in one of the photos)?

She is the most discreet of Hollywood stars. But at 41, she agreed to play the glamorous hostesses at her home in Los Angeles to talk about her life,” continues the sub-heading.

cine_tele_revue_002Being from April 2010 means the interview would have been conducted towards the end of filming Cold Case.  Published just a few weeks before the series finalé was broadcast in the US, presumably it was conducted in early 2010.  The end would have been very much in sight.  That is maybe what’s given rise to the line picked out in the quote: “Cold Case takes up too much for an infant.

cine_tele_revue_003As we know, three years later time was found, and subsequently very much in short supply, with the birth of Kathryn and Johnny’s twin boys in August 2013.  In fact the two actors will have only just recently met at the time of the article.  If he was any sort of man Johnny was already planning his post-work approach 😉

The photos accompanying the article live up to that sub-title.  A very glamorous looking Kathryn indeed, not that she needs to be all dolled-up to look gorgeous of course.

If you have more details on this article please contact me as I’d love to be able to provide a translation for everyone to read.  And, obviously, better versions of the photos would be very much appreciated by all.

Kathryn Is The First Princess In 2007

first_princess_party_0012007 was a big year for Kathryn.

Cold Case was in full swing.  The second half of season 4 and the first part of season 5 aired for the first time in the USA.

The movie Resurrecting The Champ, in which Kathryn had a small role as the estranged wife of the main character played by Josh Hartnett, was premièred at the Sundance Film Festival and publicly released later in the year.

Despite not being available for almost two more years the film Assassination Of A High School President (now seemingly known as just The Assassination) was also filmed.  Kathryn had an even smaller, and rather odd, part as the slightly spaced-out school nurse.

All of which added up to making 2007 the busiest year for Kathryn making public appearances.

It was also a big year for Kim Kardashian (didn’t think I’d ever be writing that name on this site!).  For very different reasons though.  A film Kim made 4 years previously was released and she became a world wide sensation.  By the end of 2007 she had her TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians on the E! network and was milking the fame thrust upon her for all it was worth.  Luckily for society in general she has chosen to shrink back from the limelight and the hasn’t been heard of much for years.  It can be difficult for the shy and retiring types to cope with all the attention.

In April 0f 2007 Kim was named as host of TAO’s First Princess Party.  TOA is a restaurant and nightclub in Las Vegas.  Kathryn was there.  Not sure why.  As we can see above Kathryn was photographed with rapper Cowboy Troy.

It’s taken a long time but I’ve finally added the two small and very similar photos of Kathryn from the event to the KM UK Gallery.
