Bone Tomahawk To Première At Fantastic Fest

fantastic_fest_2015_poster_1013x1500And so it begins…

The genre-crossing film festival Fantastic Fest has announced that Bone Tomahawk will receive its world première at the event later this year.

S. Craig Zahler’s horror western will be the closing night film, presumably meaning it will be screened on the 1st of October 2015, the last date given.

Fantastic Fest takes place at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas and kicks-off on the 24th September.

Bone Tomahawk stars Kurt Russell (Overboard) as a Sheriff who sets out with three other men to rescue a group of captured townsfolk from ‘cannibalistic cave dwellers’.

Kurt and his co-star Matthew Fox (Lost) are both understood to be attending the première screening.  We can only hope that Kathryn, who plays the Sheriff’s wife in the film, stands by her man (Kurt or Johnny, we don’t mind as long as she’s there) at the event.

See the recent post here on KM UK for a few photos of Kathryn in costume.

In a not so genre-busting move all the details about Fantastic Fest can be found on the official website HERE.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence – Friday BBC1

ai_10After the excitement of the weekend’s new photos of Kathryn in the forthcoming movie Bone Tomahawk, we return to the more prosaic.

The latest of our Media Alerts, which primarily cover showings of Kathryn’s work on national television in the UK, is for another showing of A.I. Artificial Intelligence on the BBC.

The film makes a return to the main One channel, this time at 11:15pm on Friday (31st July).

February’s showing seemed to be timed to coincide with the cinema release of the movie Ex Machina, which also dealt with the issue of humans relating to highly sophisticated robots that mimic humans emotions.   The UK DVD was launched a few months ago so this TV showing of A.I. is not linked to that.  Perhaps its a reference to the show Humans on Channel 4, which is a UK/US co-production re-make of the Swedish drama Real Humans (aka Äkta människor).  More life-like robots and their impact on real people.  That series comes to an end next weekend.

The BBC website’s page about A.I. Artificial Intelligence is here.

Screencaps and a video clip of Kathryn’s performance in A.I. can be found in the Gallery.

Kathryn In Bone Tomahawk Stills! – Update

still_003still_001It has been a while since we heard anything about the upcoming horror Western movie Bone Tomahawk.

May saw the release of the poster.

A month ago the writer/director S. Craig Zahler responded to a comment on IMDb to say the film was finished having gone through seven months of post production.  He added that we should “[l]ook for announcements in the near future regarding the release and premiere.”

still_002Remarkably little news has been forthcoming considering the film stars the likes of Kurt Russell (Stargate), Matthew Fox (Lost), Patrick Wilson (A Gifted Man), Lili Simmons (Banshee), Sean Young (Blade Runner), David Arquette (8 Legged Freaks), and Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under).  And, with Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight getting a lot of coverage at the recent ComicCon event, the Western is undergoing something of a revival at the moment.

Ton_set_001hing have, however, taken a turn for the Kathryn-flavoured better today as a few still photos of her as Lorna Hunt (wife of Kurt’s Sheriff Hunt) have come into our possession.  Based on the film’s period setting and what I’ve learnt about Kathryn’s role she looks very much as I’d expected.

Find the three images (2 are very large) in the KM UK the Gallery.

Thanks to Fate 815 for the heads-up.

Update (26th July):  A fourth image (an on-set shot) has been added and the second still image has been upgraded to a much larger version.

Update (28th July):  The on set photo added in the previous update has been moved to an On Set album where it belongs.

The Coin Gets Noms At The Tavern

brightside_tavern_film_fest_logo_310x260The ‘tavern’ being the Brightside Tavern, host to The Brightside Tavern Film Festival.

The ‘noms’ are the four nominations that the short film The Coin has received at the BTFF event due to take place in mid-August in Jersey City.  The categories are:

  • Best Short Film – Drama
  • Best Director – Drama
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Concept

As well as the great news the film is up for more awards we now have more details on the screening itself, after first bringing you news of the event a couple of weeks ago.

Writer/producer/director Fabien Martorell’s 9 minute long movie starring Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and Kathryn will be shown on the 16th of August, a Sunday, as part of a group of films starting at 5:05pm.  The screening is described as ‘Downstairs 4’, presumably because it is the fourth taking place in a basement area.

More details and a link to the ticket sales are on the BTFF website.

HollyShorts Batman!

Just when you thought… (this is sounding familiar)… it was safe… (oh no, it’s totally different)… to assume that The Coin has got no more film festivals to visit, up pops another one.

With a poster reminiscent of the one for a certain drama film that aired in the UK recently… hint, hint… the HollyShorts Film Festival is having it’s 11th running, across 10 days, in 9 (+13) days time.  Don’t you just ‘ate it when that happens? :-)

Given its name it will come as no surprise that the event takes place in Hollywood, the ‘TCL Chinese Theatres 6’ to be precise.

As seems to be the norm when we first report these things, no schedule has been released as of yet so we’ll return to this event when we can bring you more detail.  Tickets are becoming available on the official HollyShorts Film Festival website covering individual days and all-access passes.

Also as per usual we have to thank The Coin‘s writer/director/producer Fabien Martorell for letting us know about another screening of his film.  Fingers crossed for a prize or two.
