What happened to spring? England seems to have jumped straight from from a very long winter to summer. Not that summer officially starts for another few weeks either. It’s so confusing
Here on KM UK we’re going to make sure it is a long, hot summer with our Summer Of HD 2013. Long because we are covering the whole of Cold Case season 2 (as chosen by our readers), and hot because… well that shouldn’t need explaining 😉
Let’s start at the beginning with the first episode, titled The Badlands. A boring way to do it perhaps, but sometimes you’ve got to go with tradition. Lilly re-investigates one of her own cold cases and for Jeffries it has a personal element as the triple murder happened in a diner in his old neck of the woods.
249 HD (720p) Lilly screencaps from the episode can now be found in the Gallery.
Three years ago today the final ever episodes of Cold Case aired in the USA. In 2010 the 2nd of May was a Sunday of course.
That day the last two episodes (Almost Paradise and Shattered) broadcast back-to-back brought an end to seven seasons totalling 156 shows. Sadly there are no signs of them re-opening up the case box on this one.
Since then only Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) has returned to network television in a regular role. Danny has completed two seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the show has already been renewed for its 15th, due in the autumn. Most of the main cast of Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller), John Finn (John Stillman), Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera) and Thom Barry (Will Jeffries) have gone on to make guest starring appearances in shows like Emily Owens MD, The Good Wife, Suits, Harry’s Law and Person Of Interest. And that is just Tracie’s TV credits! As for the guys, they’ve have turned up in things such as Blue Bloods, Golden Boy, Hawaii Five-O, Homeland, House, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, NCIS, Outlaw, Perception and Shameless. Sadly Kathryn has done nothing like that since Cold Case ended, limiting her work to a few movie roles. Here on KM UK we keep an eye on the non-Kathryn CC cast members’ careers and let you know in our regular Cold Case Cast Catch-up posts.
However, things could be very different by the end of this year. Both Kathryn and Tracie have worked on pilots which are hoping to be picked up to series for the new season in September/October. As we’ve covered extensively already in Kathryn’s case the show is a drama called Surgeon General and is aiming for slot in CBS’s schedules. Tracie’s show is Gothica and is for ABC. We will know if they are successful in the next couple of weeks.
It’s been a long time coming and we could be facing a long five month wait to September to see the results. Sleepless nights are guaranteed but hopefully all the worry and stress during delivery will be worth it.
Earlier this week Rod Lurie, the director of the Surgeon General pilot, Tweeted about having completed the director’s cut of the show. The filming only finished last week so he has done fast work on the edit suite. We don’t know for certain but we imagine that the CBS network chiefs will watch this cut and make a decision either way. Or possibly go a third way and request changes before re-evaluating.
We could be on tenterhooks until the official announcements at the mid-May “Upfronts” to find out whether the show has been picked up to series, but we will probably know before then.
There’s been no further significant news regarding the other pilots competing for CBS airtime being picked up, or existing shows being cancelled to make way for new ones. See the recent article covering that here. We have seen it suggested that the likely cancellation of a comedy or two on the network may free up time for another drama series. Surgeon General is still likely to be fighting it out over just a couple of spaces with 3 or 4 other shows.
Which brings us to the elephant in the room: what impact will the big news of the week have on the show? (no offence Kathryn, you’re glowing of course 😮 )

We have an additional photo of Kathryn and co. at the table read for the pilot of Surgeon General. As you can tell it was taken at the same time as the previous couple of photos.
In this small photo we see Atlanta-based acting teacher and actress Kristen Shaw and director Rod Lurie. Surgeon General is something of a reunion for them as all three have worked together before on films Deterrence, The Contender, The Last Castle and Resurrecting The Champ. Kristen has worked with Rod even more than Kathryn has, having starred in just about everything he’s ever made.
The photo is now in the Gallery.
Thanks to Kristen Shaw for allowing us to share the photo with you. The Facebook page for the Kristen Shaw Acting Studio is here.
Here we have our first sign of Kathryn actually on the set of the Surgeon General pilot shoot.
As filming appears to have ended yesterday (2nd April 2013) after just over two weeks of work, it is a little sad that it has taken until right at the end of the process for it happen. We are, however, very grateful to Melissa Rutland (the lovely lady on the right) for the photo you see here. Kathryn looks very smart and business-like in her purple dress and the hair-do is a distinct improvement on recent showings. We approve
Melissa worked on the show as Kathryn’s stand-in during filming.
The photo is now in the Gallery.
Thank you Melisssa for allowing us to share the photo with you.
In additional Surgeon General news a couple more guest stars for the pilot were announced last week. Anna Deavere Smith (Nurse Jackie and The West Wing) will play the Vice President and Miguel Sandoval (Medium) will be a US Senator.
