Cold Case Guest Star Reddit AMAs

Welcome to 2015.  How has yours been so far?

I thought we’d start the year with something a little different.

‘Todd Smitts’, a very active member of the Cold Case fan community, has let me know about some CC related items he thought others might like to be informed of.  I’m always happy to help out so here we go.

Several guest stars on Cold Case have Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ chat sessions scheduled for the coming week.  Being an old fogey I’m not too familiar with Reddit, but I am sure that you are.  I’m still trying to figure out where the paper goes in this fancy typewriter! :-)

I’ll let him tell you in his own words:

Amber Benson (Julia Hoffman in “Volunteers“, but better known as Tara on “Buffy”) will be doing hers at 3 PM Eastern time on Jan 5.  Johnathon Schaech (Julian Bellowes in “Libertyville“) will be doing his at 4 PM Eastern on Jan 6.

This is great opportunity to ask them about their time working on the show (or anything else you know them from).  Since “Libertyville” happen to be one of my favorite episodes, I’ll definitely be making time for both of those.  I previously got to ask Michael Harney (also from “Volunteers“) and Lindy Booth (the doer from “Wings“) about their guest spots, so I’ll look forward to it.

Looking at the list of the upcoming AMAs I spotted Yara Shahidi who played the 2009 flashback Meesha Sullivan in Cold Case season 7, episode 7, Read Between The Lines.  Yara’s session is scheduled for 5pm (EST) on 7th Jan.

You can find the Reddit IAmA page HERE.

Thanks to ‘Todd’ for letting me know about this.  If you have something you think fellow Kathryn/Cold Case fans would like to know about please let me know using the Contact form.

Xen Talks The Protocol At NY Comic Con

on_set_012The actress and acting coach Xen Sia attended the recent New York Comic Con event to promote a new comic book called Treadwater, aka TRDWTR.

Although Treadwater exists as a traditional comic book, and there is an animated series and much cross-media material (videos, websites etc.), they are using real-life actors to portray the characters in promotional material.  Xen is one of them.  There is also talk of Treadwater becoming a live action TV series.

As part of her endorsement work at the NY Comic Con Xen was interviewed by Michael Artsis for the BeTerrific!! (their exclamation marks) website.  During the chat she also talked about another new project: The Protocol.  Regular readers will know a pilot for this possible TV series was filmed in the summer of 2013, with Kathryn making an appearance whilst she was heavily pregnant with her twin boys.  The photo above was taken on the set during filming.  Xen makes reference to Kathryn’s character, who we know to be called Grace, also being pregnant.  I’m not sure that was quite the coincidence that Xen implies.

Just a few weeks ago I reported on The Protocol‘s increasing presence on IMDb, suggesting there is a move to make the show happen.  Whether it will or not is another matter.

Xen Sia at NY Comic ConThe Protocol is set in a not too distant future when the government mandates that all citizens take drugs, the titular ‘Protocol’, to control behaviour.  None compliance sees you banished to a dystopian realm.

During her discussion Xen makes much of praising Kathryn for her work so far in the likes of Cold Case as well as her nurturing attitude towards an upcoming actress.  Xen says the sort of things that we, as fans and followers of Kathryn, would completely expect her to say about Kathryn.  It’s all good.

A video of the interview can be seen on YouTube here.  A small copy has been added to the KM UK the Gallery.  Talk about The Protocol starts at around the 4 minute mark for those wishing to skip ahead.

Cold Case S03E21 – The Hen House HD Screencaps

Cold_Case_S03E21_lilly_091We reach the final edition of KM UK’s Summer Of HD for 2014.

Over the past few months I’ve been posting new HD (720p or 1080p) screencaps from season 3 of Cold Case.  Rather than the usual numerical order, this year episodes were grouped into threes randomly for voting on by you dear reader.  The winner of each poll was then the next chosen.  Once the full set had been gone through the losing episodes were again put to the polls.  This was repeated until all were exhausted.

The upshot of the voting process is that this final posting could be seen as being about the least popular episode of the season.  I’m sure that’s not true really.

The Hen House is about the murder of a journalist in 1945, days after the end of World War II.  Lorena “Lo” Kinney was keen to succeed in the very male-dominated world of the press.  No parallels with Lilly then? :-)  A current day journalist finds files which include a threatening note written to Miss Kinney on the day she was died, hit by a train as it went through a station.

The late Peter Graves (Airplane and Mission Impossible) in one of his final roles guest starred as modern day Noah, a man Lo falls for.  But is Noah all he seems?  Playing the “I recognise the big guest star from other shows” game we quickly surmise that Peter is more than just a bit part player in this one.

118 HD (720p) Lilly screencaps from The Hen House are now the Gallery.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this run of postings.  If you make use of any of KM UK’s screencaps in fan art then please let me know, perhaps we can include them in our Gallery at a future date.

Cold Case S03E22 – The River HD Screencaps

Cold_Case_S03E22_lilly_082If you open an episode with “Holding Out For A Hero” by Bonnie Tyler with the scene of an ER doctor operating on a young man, reviving another patient with a defibrillator, comforting the shocked-to-life man’s wife and turning down her offer of money, all under the awestruck watch of super-doc’s son, you just know that things won’t end well for him.  Sure enough, Dr Bowen is shot and killed in an alley a few months later in August of 1984.

Back in the present (2006) a new ADA, replacing the one that Jeffries punched at the end of last week’s starring episode Death Penalty: Final Appeal, brings in a witness to the killing of Dr Bowen.  She says it wasn’t the man originally arrested for the crime that she saw pull the trigger.

Those familiar with some of Kathryn’s previous work may recognise the actor playing Dr Bowen as one of her co-stars on Pensacola: Wings Of Gold.  You are so nearly right.  The doc is Emmanuel Xuereb, twin brother of P:WOG star Salvator Xuereb.

As part of KM UK Summer Of HD 2014 there are now 110 HD (720p) Lilly screencaps in the Gallery.

Cold Case Turns 11

CC_Titles_16Opening scene:  A new birth at the CBS TV network

Caption:  Sunday, 28th September 2003

It was Sunday then, it’s a Sunday now (unless you are looking at this at a time when it isn’t of course :-) ).  Yes, Cold Case first appeared on screens 11 years ago today.  Happy birthday.

If Cold Case had continued it would have started it’s 12th season last week.  Though I fear that if it’s trajectory of timeslots continued it would have been on at 4am, assuming the late weather forecast didn’t over run, and, with around 250 cases solved by now, there would have been very few boxes left in the file room.  I’m not sure we would have wanted to watch the squad solve the 1982 case of little Timmy’s hamster.  Did it die of natural causes as it ran in it’s wheel or did the cat scare it to death?  Does a just-surfaced mobilephone voice mail message which just happened to catch the family budgerigar squawking “naughty Tiddles” implicate the doer?  We will never know now  :-)

Actually, I really want to see that episode 😀  Just imagine the final scene as Lilly sees the ghostly figure of ‘Hammy’ giving a grateful wink and hopping back into his wheel for one last spin  :-(

Lilly and co. spearheaded the Sunday night female-led dramas, now exemplified by The Good Wife and CBS’s new 8pm starter Madam Secretary.  Téa Leoni (Bad Boys) is an academic thrust into the role of Secretary Of State, the position currently held in ‘real life’ by John Kerry.  It is a job that several women have had since the late 90s by Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and, most recently, Hilary Clinton.

Happy 11th Cold Case.  We miss you.
