It’s May already!?!
Seriously? Wasn’t it Xmas just last month? Where does the time go?
One thing that is beginning to feel like it was quite a long time ago, and yet at the same time just yesterday, is the end of Cold Case.
On this day five years ago (2nd May 2010) the long running CBS network crime drama series came to an end. On that Sunday night in the US of A two episodes were broadcast back-to-back, bring to a close the seven season-long run.
Since then we’ve seen all of Kathryn’s main co-stars return to the small screen in various roles. Danny Pino (Scotty Valens on CC) didn’t stray far from the genre with a leading role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit being the most obvious one. All the rest have made guest appearances galore. Just last week Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera) was in Bones. Thom Barry (Will Jeffries) was a prison doctor on House. Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller) met the Veep. And, John Finn (John Stillman) showed up in a couple of episodes of NCIS. Those were just one example for each. Tracie, as usual, ups the average by being on multiple shows, some pilots for new shows, and movies. Check out KM UK’s monthly Cold Case Cast Catch-up posts for the latest news on them and others.
Over the course of the years this website has been going I like to think that we’ve established a few traditions, albeit mostly based around other traditions such as birthdays. The hope is that they are fun things to look forward to.
One of the events we mark is tinged with a little sadness: the end of Cold Case.
May the 2nd in 2010, a Sunday of course, saw the final two episodes of Cold Case season 7 aired in the US. Shattered, the second of the pair, was the last ever episode in the 156 show run.
As I try to cover in the now monthly CCCC-up posts the cast have gone on to a variety of other things. This time last year we were waiting for news on Kathryn’s new show The Surgeon General and Tracie’s Gothica. Sadly, neither of those projects made it beyond the pilot stage. However, we know that they have all gone on to do plenty of other things. Just last year Kathryn produced two little projects of her own, and maybe we’ll see her in a movie or TV show soon too.
Three years ago today the final ever episodes of Cold Case aired in the USA. In 2010 the 2nd of May was a Sunday of course.
That day the last two episodes (Almost Paradise and Shattered) broadcast back-to-back brought an end to seven seasons totalling 156 shows. Sadly there are no signs of them re-opening up the case box on this one.
Since then only Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) has returned to network television in a regular role. Danny has completed two seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the show has already been renewed for its 15th, due in the autumn. Most of the main cast of Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller), John Finn (John Stillman), Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera) and Thom Barry (Will Jeffries) have gone on to make guest starring appearances in shows like Emily Owens MD, The Good Wife, Suits, Harry’s Law and Person Of Interest. And that is just Tracie’s TV credits! As for the guys, they’ve have turned up in things such as Blue Bloods, Golden Boy, Hawaii Five-O, Homeland, House, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, NCIS, Outlaw, Perception and Shameless. Sadly Kathryn has done nothing like that since Cold Case ended, limiting her work to a few movie roles. Here on KM UK we keep an eye on the non-Kathryn CC cast members’ careers and let you know in our regular Cold Case Cast Catch-up posts.
However, things could be very different by the end of this year. Both Kathryn and Tracie have worked on pilots which are hoping to be picked up to series for the new season in September/October. As we’ve covered extensively already in Kathryn’s case the show is a drama called Surgeon General and is aiming for slot in CBS’s schedules. Tracie’s show is Gothica and is for ABC. We will know if they are successful in the next couple of weeks.
The Universal Channel in the UK will be showing the last ever episode of Cold Case tomorrow night (October 11th) at 8pm.
For anyone that has missed it, or any part of it, don’t worry, they will be repeating it all over again starting on Wednesday.
