The Coin @ Champs-Élysées Film Festival – But When?

poster_001The organisers of the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris have released the schedule for the upcoming 2014 event.

champs_elysees_film_festival_1447x2048Starting on the 11th June 2014 (a Wednesday) it runs for 7 days across 7 venues along, not surprisingly, the Avenue des Champs-Elysees between the world famous Arc de Triomphe and Place de la Concorde square which contains the Luxor Obelisk.

The short film The Coin will be shown at the festival as part of a collection under the banner Courts Métrages Américains (Hors écoles), which translates as ‘American Short Films (excluding schools)’.  I presume that submissions by students are dealt with separately.

Lucky for some the screening takes place on Friday the 13th of June at the MK2 Grand Palais, which is near the Place de la Concorde end of the avenue.

The Coin, co-starring Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and by writer/director/produer Fabien Martorell, shares the bill with 5 other short films in a screening starting 8:45pm.

It appears that the screening is a one off, with no repeat viewings on the schedule.

You can find all the details on the festival website HERE (so far it is only in French, an English version is promised in a couple of weeks).

Kathryn @ Mother’s Day Salute To TV Moms – May 2008

038Sunday sees our American cousins (and many other parts of the world) celebrate Mother’s Day.  Here in England we got the whole palava over with are so keen to honour our mothers that we mark the occasion in March.

The run-up to the American day in 2008 (also Sunday, May 11th as it is this year) saw Kathryn attend an event at the Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences saluting mothers seen on TV.

As you can see in the photo on the left Kathryn was there with the actress who played Lilly Rush’s on-screen mother, Meredith Baxter.  Although alluded to quite often Ellen Rush only appeared in 5 episodes from late in season 3 (Beautiful Little Fool) to the end of season 4 (Stalker) before her death, which only added to Lilly’s woes.

Thankfully, the wonderful Meredith is still with us and continues to work mainly on TV, such as guest starring in TV shows like Glee as she did last year.  Speaking of on-screen mothers, as we most definitely are, Meredith famously starred as Michael J Fox’s mother in the series Family Ties and then repeated the feat with a guest role in the comedy Spin City, in which her character dated the Mayor of New York as played by Barry Bostwick (Cold Case episode Creatures Of The Night).

A little like Ellen Rush, Meredith has had her relationship troubles having been married a total of four times and had 5 children.  In 2009 Meredith came out as a lesbian.  A decade early she underwent treatment for breast cancer.

Anyway, back to our always-yummy-but-only-recently-a-mummy favourite ‘yummy mummy’ we have 12 additional photos of Kathryn at the Mother’s Day Salute To TV Moms event from May 2008 now in the KM UK Gallery.

Kathryn and mothers everywhere, we salute you.

The Coin Gets The Love In The City Of Love

poster_001It’s turning in to a busy week here on KMUK!

Despite being around for nearly two years we continue to hear about the march of The Coin in film festivals around the world.

champs_elysees_film_festival_1447x2048The short film’s director/writer/producer Fabien Martorell has again let it be known that his short film will be heading back to his homeland of France.  This time it is for the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris.  The Coin is one of the official selections of the festival.

As the lady in the colourful poster on the right tells us the festival runs from the 11th to the 17th of June this year.  The exact where-and-when of how The Coin will feature in the programme has not been announced yet.  The schedule is due to be released in a couple of weeks time.  I will post an update when the news breaks.

You can check all the details on the official Champs-Élysées Film Festival website HERE.  A version for us lazy English-only speakers is due to be available later in May.

As I normally say, if you get a chance to attend a festival screening The Coin then please do let us know how what the experience was like.  We’d love to hear all about it.

Kathryn @ Newport Beach Film Festival – Update x2

newport_beach_001First!

Kathryn’s first public appearance of the year that is.  Let’s hope it is the first of many.  It is so great to see her again.

As reported previously the short film The Coin was screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival yesterday (26th April) and all our wishes came true because Kathryn was in attendance.

As you can see she was there with Fabien Martorell (co-writer/co-producer/director of the film), Will Kemp (co-producer/actor) and young Jack Ryan Shepherd (actor).

Thanks to Fabien for the photo.  It is in the KM UK Gallery.

Everyone here sends best wishes to everyone there.

Update:  A couple more photos have been added.  Thanks to Will Kemp and Fabien again.

Update (28th Apr):  An additional three photos courtesy of Fabien and Severine.

The Coin By The Beach On Saturday

newport_beach_film_festival_756x123I’ve been trying to work out with a link between a coin and the beach to me an amusing subject line for this reminder of The Coin‘s Saturday screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival.  So far I’ve failed.  I just keep coming back to the memory of grandparents giving me some money to buy an ice-cream whilst on the next family holiday to the seaside.

Anyhoo.  As I covered before, the short film is part of a programmed called ‘Short Connections’ made up of 7 films in a 90 minute event.  It takes place in a venue called The Triangle on Harbor Boulevard, Costa Mesa, California.  Show starts at 3:45pm.  The city of Costa Mesa is in Orange County (that’s the O and C in The O.C.).  Ain’t Wikipedia useful :-)

KM UK wishes all those showing films at the NBFF the best of luck, especially friend-of-the-site Fabien Martorell and his cast and crew.

The official NBFF website HERE has all the details.
