Start TV Starts CC On TV CC’s Stars Of CC

StartTV_My_Start_Story_part_2_011

The other week Start TV posted a couple of pages, with videos, about Kathryn and Tracie’s starts in the business that is show.  We covered it HERE.

Last week Start TV followed-up those two articles with a piece marking their ‘Investigation Week’, which includes Cold Case being broadcast from the beginning again today (29th July).

The initial focus of the newer feature is a collection of real-life investigators.  An FBI Special Agent, Chief Of Police, marksman, Canine Handler, a coroner, and Coast Guard.  As is the underlying theme of the whole TV channel, all the people being highlighted are women.

It continues with our two favourite ladies talking about what drew them to Cold Case, and Kathryn’s experience learning from Detective Tim Bass to inform her portrayal of Lilly Rush.

Read the full article HERE on the Start TV website.

Kathryn’s Start Story

Sit down children, and then I’ll begin…

Remember the surprise selfies (selfi?) posted by Tracie back in March?  Well in case you don’t you can view that post HERE.  It was clear the photos had something to do with the new female-centric US television network Start TV, currently broadcasting Cold Case daily, and I hoped we would hear about it later.  That time has finally arrived.

Start TV has published Kathryn’s My Start Story article.  It details Kathryn’s early life performing in her family’s gospel group, The Morris Code, through her introduction to movies and getting the role of Lilly Rush in Cold Case.  There are quotes from Kathryn throughout and a couple of short video clips as companion items.

I urge you to read the full article HERE on the Start TV website.

Of course Tracie was there too and you can read her My Start Story HERE.

It wouldn’t be KM UK without some images and in this case we have some nice HD (720p) screencaps from the two video clips in the Gallery, and we have small versions of the videos for completeness.

Have a good weekend.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – June 2019

danny_pino_002_430x180.jpgThings are heating up in the UK and they haven’t exactly gone cold in the showbiz news front either.  KM UK’s CCCC-up for June 2019 is a busy one for members of the Cold Case cast that aren’t Kathryn.

Mayans M.C. is coming back.  The spin-off from Sons Of Anarchy returns to the FX network airways on September the 3rd (a Tuesday), which is now less than 10 weeks away.  Danny Pino (Scotty Valens in CC) is set to reprise his role of Miguel Galindo.  Those attending the San Diego Comic-Con in a month’s time will be able to see a sneak peak of season two on the Sunday (21st July) afternoon.

Earlier this year Danny did a guest starring appearance (covered in December’s CCCC-up) in a couple of episodes of the Netflix show One Day At A Time.  Not long after that the series cancellation was announced.  The events were unrelated I’m sure.  In what is being described as the first case ever of a show leaving a streaming service and moving to cable television, ODAAT has been picked up by Pop TV.  The cable network has ordered a fourth season to air next year.  Netflix will still host seasons 1 to 3 but Pop will also be able to broadcast them.  In an interesting twist Pop TV is owned by the large CBS network.  This means that ODAAT season 4 will likely get a network TV showing later next year.  At this stage there is no news on whether Danny’s Tito will make a return.  We’ll take it one day at…

July 2017.  Remember then?  That was when the CCCC-up first made mention of Ad Astra.  No not a car commercial (I must have made that “joke” before!), but a sci-fi movie starring Brad Pitt (Moneyball), Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black), Liv Tyler (Armageddon), Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games), Ruth Negga (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and John Finn (John Stillman in CC).  The wheels of Hollywood often turn slowly.  Two trailers for the film have been released this past month see them on YouTube HERE and HERE.  John features in both.  He’s the first voice you hear in the second clip.

Speaking of voices, the Roger Ailes bio-series The Loudest Voice is due to start today (30th June) on the Showtime network.  If the info is correct John features in the first episode.

We’ve got this far without mentioning Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC).  That ends now.

In movie news Tracie is starring in a new rom-com called Back To Lyla.  The plot involves a young man setting out to find his old friends after receiving a terminal diagnosis.  As Tracie’s character is titled Dr Nolan I’m tempted to say her role is relatively small and in the first part of the film.  Hey, I can put 2 and 2 together and come up with approximately 4.  Emma Kenney (Shameless) and Hassie Harrison (Tacoma FD) star in the director America Young (Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures) directed and Guillermo Noriega (Confetti) written movie.  The project only finished filming a few weeks ago so we have no news yet on a release date.

KM UK first referenced Straight Up back in October of last year.  It’s a movie in which Tracie dons the stethoscope and white coat again, this time as Dr Larson.  James Sweeney gets all selfish by writing, directing and starring in this rom-com with Katie Findlay (The Carrie Diaries) playing the other half of the love line (it’s not a triangle).  The twist being that Todd is gay.  The film had its première last week at the Frameline Festival, which is an LGBTQ+ film festival, held in San Francisco.  It will be out Outfest in July.  No signs of a wider release date at this time.

Just occasionally we step outside the usual additional cast to look at some other key people connect with Cold Case.  One of them is Veena Sud, producer and writer on the show, who went on to do the same things on The Killing.  Veena has joined something called Quibi, a mobile video service backed by Jeff Katzenberg (DreamWorks co-founder), that has already signed-up such talents as Steven Spielberg (Jaws), Steven Soderbergh (Traffic), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), Donal Logue (Gotham), Chrissy Teigen (Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation), Don Cheadle (House Of Lies), Emily Mortimer (Mary Poppins Returns), and Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) to make on projects.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – May 2019

tracie_thoms_001_430x180“Previously on…”  April’s CCCC-up was looking like a struggle to find anything to post about.  We did OK though.  That’s nothing compared to this month.  Yes, May 2019’s news round-up from the careers of the other members of the Cold Case cast could well be slim pickings indeed.  Read on.

Much of the news we report on regarding Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) is not about her work in front of the camera, but her work treading the boards.  It has been announced that Tracie will be taking to the stage again at the end of June will star in Working: A Musical.  The show is based on a 1974 book by Louis “Studs” Terkel and looks at every day workers and what that work means to them.  Helen Hunt (Twister) is amongst the cast and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) has contributed two new songs to the updated production.  The New York City Center hosts the musical for 4 days from the 26th of June.  The afternoon performance on the 29th will be followed by a Q&A by the cast and crew.

As mentioned last month Tracie reprised her guest starring role in the Fox network emergency service drama series 9-1-1.  Contrary to some sources the show, as reported on KMUK last time, aired on the 13th of May.  Looks like her character (Karen) and her wife (Aisha Hinds’ Henrietta) had a major family decision to make.

In John Finn (John Stillman in CC) news last month we linked to the first trailer released for the new Showtime series about the late Fox News creator Roger Ailes.  Due for a June 30th start, a second more lengthy trailer has been made available.  No sign of John in this one either.  His role is likely to be quite small, and if the info on IMDb is accurate he may only be in the first episode.  The show has lots of big names in it including Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind), Naomi Watts (Tank Girl), Seth McFarlane (American Dad), and Sienna Miller (Layer Cake).  View the new trailer HERE.

Cold Case Cast Catch-up – April 2019

tracie_thoms_001_430x180The April showers have largely stayed away.  Speaking of showers lets take our regular look at the news of the other members of the Cold Case cast in the April 2019 CCCC-up.  Not a particularly busy month but some important updates.

She’s not been our headline act for a few months so we’ll give her top billing for April.  Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) recently finished filming in the Fox TV multi-emergency service drama series 9-1-1.  She will be in the season finale due to be broadcast on the 13th of May.  Two weeks ago Tracie added another notch to her extensive and varied guest starring roles post.  This latest outing is in and episode, ‘Book Club’, of NBCs brand new comedy show Abby’s, which is set in an illegal bar in the titular character’s backyard.  Natalie Morales (Parks And Recreation) and Neil Finn (Scrubs) lead the sitcom.

Back in 2016 Tracie starred in a series called Sidetracked, we covered it on KM UK several times back then.  The actress Adrienne Wilkinson (Xena: Warrior Princess) has for a number of years now being collecting interviews and posting them under the banner The Mouths Of Babes.  Just added is a compilation of chats with members of the cast of Sidetracked.  Watch it HERE.

Lastly, for Tracie, we have a full movie release available to everyone for free.  OK, it’s only 9 minutes long but it is the whole thing!  The short film Are We Good Parent? has been published on Vimeo by its maker, Bola Ogun.  Tracie and Sean Maguire (The Class) struggle to deal with their teenage daughter’s (Gabrielle Skye Goodman, Speechless) sexuality, but not in the way you might think.  You can view it HERE.

The Showtime network’s take on the late Roger Ailes will première on the 30th of June.  Ailes was the controversial driving force and CEO of Fox News.  He very much set the tone and output of the station.  The series, The Loudest Voice, charts his is rise and fall with playing Russell Crowe (Gladiator) the man himself.  Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive), Seth McFarlane (The Orville), and Sienna Miller (American Sniper) also star.  John Finn (John Stillman in CC) will play Jack Welch, the CEO of General Electric who appears to be very much in the Ailes mould.  See a trailer for the show HERE.

Not sure when this first became apparent but it looks like John is climbing back into the director’s chair for a short film, having done so previously on a couple of episodes of Cold Case.  Saved Rounds is about an Iraqi war veteran and a final mission they feel compelled to complete.  Doc Farrow (Young Sheldon) is ‘Doc’, the vet in question.  In an ‘it’s a small world’ moment, Doc Farrow stars in a movie project based on Roger Ailes’ life.  John Lithgow, Margot Robbie, Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Alice Eve, Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Stephen Root, Allison Janney, Rob Delaney etc. etc. star in that film due for release at the end of the year.  Saved Rounds is being targeted for a release this year, presumably on the festival circuit.
