The Coin – A Synopsis

poster_001

Someone at the LATF.com website very kindly contacted KM UK via Twitter linking to an article they have posted about the short film The Coin.

The piece by Pamela Price gives us the first indication we’ve seen of the plot of the 9 minute long movie.  The LATF writer says that The Coin is a “must see” and the cinematography is “captivating”.  We certainly look forward to seeing it.

Kathryn’s role is initially described thus:

Kathryn Morris (Cold Case) portrays an indignant mother who radiates negativity onto her cherubic young son (Jack Ryan Shepherd).

Pamela goes on to give a synopsis of the plot that involves the boy being left outside a shop and meeting a homeless man played by Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future).  Mention is made of the upcoming film festival season with the likes of Sundance and the Palm Springs International Film Festival due soon.  Sundance has already announced their short film selection and The Coin was not on the list.  KM UK’s understands that it was not submitted.

You can read Pamela’s article in full on the LATF.com website.

Thanks to the LATF Tweeter for the link.

The Sweeter Side Of Life – 19th January 2013

promo_001The Hallmark Channel has issued a press release announcing the forthcoming début of the movie The Sweeter Side Of Life.

As predicted in the earlier post it will be first broadcast in January of 2013.  Now we know that it will the 19th, which is a Saturday, to be precise.

As you can see on the right Hallmark also issued a small promotional photo of Kathryn as her character Desiree Harper posing with a slice of cake.  As if the picture needs any more sweetness 😀

The photo is in the Gallery and you can read the press release in full below.

We’ll bring you more on this when we get it.

Many thanks to LK for the heads-up.

Update (18 December 2012):  Photo replaced by larger version.

‘COLD CASE’ STAR KATHRYN MORRIS GOES FROM PAMPERED TO PASTRIES IN ‘THE SWEETER SIDE OF LIFE,’ A HALLMARK CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE WORLD PREMIERE JANUARY 19

Kathryn Morris (“Cold Case”) stars as a Manhattan housewife who gets an unexpected reality check in “The Sweeter Side of Life,” a Hallmark Channel Original Movie World Premiere Saturday, January 19 (9p.m. ET/PT, 8C).  Morris stars with James Best (“The Dukes of Hazzard”), Alastair MacKenzie (“Monarch of the Glen”), Steve Varnom (“Broadside”) and Sam Douglas (“Snatch”) as a New York City socialite who loses everything after she’s dumped by her wealthy husband and is forced to redefine herself at her father’s struggling New Jersey bakery.

In “The Sweeter Side of Life,” Morris plays Desiree Harper, whose perfect life as the wife of a high-powered Manhattan doctor comes to a sudden end when her husband says he wants a divorce and invokes their ironclad pre-nup to leave her penniless. Desiree soon finds herself abandoned by her rich friends and back in her New Jersey hometown helping her father in his struggling bakery.  Though Desiree wants nothing more than to return to her high-class life, spending time with her father causes her to see things differently.  She rediscovers her love of baking and puts her business degree to work to save her father’s shop.  Desiree’s success at the bakery leads to an unexpected opportunity which forces her to choose between what she has lost and the new life she has found.

“The Sweeter Side of Life” is a Motion Picture Corporation of America production.  Brad Krevoy, Francisco Gonzalez and Reuben Liber are executive producers.  Michael Damian and Janeen Damian are producers.  Michael Damian directed from the script he co-wrote with Janeen Damian.

Kathryn Added To 2 Br/1 Ba On IMDb

imdb_logo_100x100The subject above largely covers this one but I’ll explain further.

In the past few days IMDb page for the new feature film starring Alex Vega (Spykids) and Spencer Grammer (Greek) 2 Br/1 Ba has had quite a few casting additions.

Kathryn has finally been added and, as first reported here on KM UK her character is called Olivia Morgan.

Amongst the other cast members recently added is Richard Riehle known for roles on Office Space and Bridesmaids.  Richard must be one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood based on the huge list of films he has done and those that are yet to be released.  He’s in 2 Br/1 Ba as Dr Hoffman.

Filming on 2 Br/1 Ba completed a few weeks ago and the movie is well into post-production.  We’ll bring you more news on progress as we receive it.

Sunday’s Mother Left High & Dry At Brownfish

brownfish_film_festival_2012_120x136Despite the disruption to the US East coast caused by Hurricane Sandy recently this past weekend’s Brownfish Short Film Festival in New York City went ahead largely as planned.  The event ended with an awards gala (sounds grand but in reality probably just a small gathering in a bar somewhere) where the winners in seven film categories were announced.

Sadly, the short film Sunday’s Mother, starring Kathryn as the titular parent, was beaten to the Best Drama award by Tammaso Paino’s Chrome.  Obviously we demand a recount!  However, according to the Brownfish website Tammaso is from the UK so we can’t be too hard on him :-)

Congratulations to all the winners.

The Sweeter Side Of Life Abroad

the_sweeter_side_of_life_255x166Later today (1st November 2012) The Sweeter Side Of Life (née Confections Of A Discarded Woman) will be screened for what could very well be the first time.

Don’t go rushing to your local “World Of Cine” or switching on the TV and tuning to one of the various Hallmark Channels though.  This screening is for a select group of people, and would be very expensive to attend.

The American Film Market (AFM) is an annual trade event running for eight days in early November in Santa Monica, California.

afm_poster_100x156.jpgAttendees of the AFM are film buyers from all over the world that go to the event to decide on films to purchase for broadcast or distribution in their home nation.  Over 400 films will be seen in nearly 600 individual screenings during the week-and-a-day long bash.

These viewings are not open to the public just paying members of the industry.  Even a single day pass costs a couple of hundred Dollars.  Staying for the whole week will set you back several thousand.

None of the cast of The Sweeter Side Of Life are expected to attend the AFM screening.  It is also unlikely we’ll hear any news resulting from the AFM but we felt it was worth mentioning as an insight into the way the film and TV industry works.
