Following Friday’s wardrobe tests and table read, and Saturday’s rehearsals, it is no big surprise that filming of the Surgeon General pilot starts today (18th March 2013). Apparently the filming in Atlanta is scheduled to take about 2 weeks.
Our two leads (Jason Isaacs and Kathryn), Kat McNamara and more recently announced signings Kristen Shaw (as Barbara Weller) and Mike Coulter are all due to take part on day one.
Kristen, an Atlanta-based acting coach, is a long time collaborator of director Rod Lurie’s. She has featured in just about everything that Rod has ever made, going back to a short film in 1998. Kathryn had been in all of Rod’s feature films up to Resurrecting The Champ.
The news of Mike Coulter’s (Ringer and The Good Wife) signing broke on Friday. Mike’s role within the team will be as Dr. Connor McCallan, an epidemiologist.
On Thursday it was announced that The Lord Of The Rings star Sean Astin would be joining the cast. Sean will be psychiatrist Dr Alan Fischer, another member of the Surgeon General’s team. Sean is another actor that has worked with Rod Lurie before when he starred in the film Deterrence, which also featured Kathryn of course.
At this rate it can only be a matter of time before Mike Binder (The Mind Of The Married Man, which guest starred Kathryn in 4 episodes) turns up in an episode. This Mike was in The Contender and episode of the TV show Commander In Chief, which Lurie created.
Shaheed Malik, another Atlanta resident, will also be filming today. No word yet on when Beth Riesgraf (Leverage) as micro-organisms specialist Dr Page Wyatt, Alex Dawson, and other cast members John Tyner, B. Todd Johnston and Victor Turner are due to start filming.
Looks like the sort of Kathryn-related news we’ve all been waiting for has finally broken.
Kathryn has, apparently, signed on for a new CBS pilot called Surgeon General. The Surgeon General is appointed by the US Government to over see matters of public health.
British actor Jason Isaacs (Awake and Harry Potter) has the lead role of Dr John Sherman. Kathryn is earmarked to play his Chief Of Staff, Lydia Ferrari. After the recent launch of the new Ferrari hybrid supercar, here on KM UK we will call Kathryn’s character in Surgeon General ‘LaFerrari’ 😉 At this stage it is just a pilot, but it does mean it has passed earlier stages of acceptance regarding the script etc. Depending on how well it ‘tests’ the show could be picked up for the 2013-14 season.
Samuel Baum (creator of Lie To Me) is writing and producing the pilot for CBS TV Studios and CBS Television. Kathryn spent 7 years with CBS in Cold Case. Beth Riesgraf (Leverage) and Katherine McNamara (Kickin’ It) are also set to star as another doctor and Sherman’s daughter respectively.
Rod Lurie is scheduled to direct the pilot, which may further explain Kathryn’s involvement beyond the CBS connection. Kathryn has worked with Rod several times already on films like The Contender and Resurrecting The Champ. In fact for a while Kathryn had had a role in all of Rod’s features.
Fingers crossed (but not too tightly, doctors orders ) for Kathryn returning to the small screen.

We’ll bring you more when we get it.
Just last week we brought you the news that Cougars, Inc. had not only been rated for a theatrical release in the UK but it had also, very briefly, had one. Over a whole four (yes, 4) days the film was shown in a small selection of cinemas across the UK, mostly in an early afternoon slot.
This led KM UK to find that the film was given its official age rating for cinema and video release back in January. All of which hinted at a possible DVD release in this country quite soon.
Now, Amazon’s UK website and the online presence of the Sainsbury’s supermarket chain are both offering the disc for pre-order prior to an April 15th launch. No sign of a Blu-ray version.
For those that haven’t gone for the German DVD or Blu-ray version, sold under the name Loverboys and includes an English audio track, since it was released way back in April 2011 your chance to pick up a Region 2 copy could be here in just 6 weeks.
We’ll post again on this as the time approaches.
It only took two years, which when you get to cougar-age is not to be taken lightly, but the movie Cougars, Inc. finally received a cinema release here in the UK. We use the past tense “released” because it appears to have been, done and gone, and left to do the walk of shame after a four day fling last week in just a handful of cinemas across England. We doubt it troubled the box office. The information of this release managed to pass KM UK by.
The British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), the body that issues all films with their official age ratings for the UK market, gave Cougars, Inc. its 15 certificate for feature (cinema) and video (DVD and VOD) at the end of January. Another fact that passed us by.
That the film was submitted for classification (where it received no cuts so will be the same as the US version) and given a theatrical run, albeit a very brief one, does suggest that an official DVD release may be imminent. We’ll keep you posted.
For those few unfamiliar with Cougars, Inc. it is about Sam (Kyle Gallner, in the middle in above photo) and his mis- and miss-adventures. He’s a teen that tends to get into trouble and has been moved to another new school by his mother in the hope of a fresh start. Only mummy can’t pay the expensive fees. Stood-up on his first date with a girl he’s just met Sam takes solace in a bar, where he bumps into Kathryn’s Alison. A morning-after thank you monetary gift to help with his school from said cougar gives Sam’s friends a plan to make more cash from other bored and wealthy women. Hijinks ensue. We’d like to be able to tell you it is a heart-warming tale about lonely souls finding each other, but we can’t.
Back at the beginning of January we reported that the French TV station RTL and the weekly Télé 2 semaines magazine were running various polls to determine the fans’ favourite actors, actresses and TV shows.
On Monday the results were posted and it was, sadly, not good news for Kathryn.
The foreign actress category that Kathryn featured in was won by Stana Katic from Castle. She took the prize by 4.5% from Jennifer Morrison of Once Upon A Time. Kathryn didn’t make the top 3. And we thought the French people really liked her.
Nathon Fillon, also of Castle, took first place in the equivalent male category, beating out competition from Hugh Laurie (House) and Simon Baker (The Mentalist). Clearly the French people do like Castle, and why not, it is a very good show.
However, Esprits Criminels, which we believe is Criminal Minds, just pipped Castle to the foreign TV show award by 0.5%. So close! As Richard Castle would probably say.
You can find all the results on the RTL website.
