Alice Sweet Alice Remake On IMDb

concept_art_001Unbelievably it has been almost exactly 10 months since news first broke that Kathryn was lined up to star in a remake of classic horror movie Alice Sweet Alice (aka Communion and Holy Terror).

These things take time.  Until relatively recently most people outside the industry would not know what was going on until everything was finalised.  Nowadays we find out so much more information, so much more quickly.  Finally we are beginning to see some signs of progress.  Mere hints they may be, but they are not insignificant.

In the past few days IMDb, the great (flawed) oracle of all things film and television, has gained a page devoted to the remake.  Anyone can submit changes to pages, which need to go through an approval process, but I believe it takes more than that to create a new page like this.

Writer/director Dante Tomaselli is listed in both those roles, though he will actual share the writing credit with Michael Gingold, and as being responsible for the music.  Dante has created music for all his films and recently released a CD of horror film-like music called Scream In The Dark.  Prior to the release of another future frightening feature film called The Doll he plans to make a concept album of music for it.  Dante’s most recent project, Torture Chamber, was recently launched on DVD.

No cast or other crew members are listed on the IMDb page as of yet.  One other key piece of information that is there is Kathryn’s Revival House is attached as the production company.  Well, sort of.  It says “Revival House Productions” and links it to two other projects, neither of which had anything to do with Kathryn and pre-date the setting up of the company by some years.  Just another IMDb glitch which will no doubt be fixed at some point.

IMDb’s page for the Alice Sweet Alice remake is HERE.

KM UK will be keeping a close watch for developments.

Coincidently this past week saw the original 1976 Alice Sweet Alice re-released on DVD in the UK.  Alfred Sole (Dante’s cousin) directed and co-wrote the film.  Linda Miller was the mother, the role Kathryn is tipped to take in the remake, Paula Sheppard is Alice, and Brooke Shields (in her first role) is the victim.  Alfred is now the production designer on the TV show Castle.

The Coin Exchanged For Euro

poster_001It has taken a few weeks but we finally get to break in the new year with some new news.

The short film The Coin will be breaking free of its US-based appearances at a new film festival in April.

fenetre_sur_courts_poster_001The Fabien Martorell written/directed/produced-film is, according to a recent Tweet by the man himself, one of the official selections for the “Fenêtre Sur Courts” Festival International du Film de Court Métrage d’Avignon.  Excuse my poor translation but that is something like: “Window on Short” Avignon International Short Film Festival.  Hopefully one of our French readers will be able to do a better job of that and help with any additional translation as required.

As we’ve seen before it looks like Fabien has jumped the gun (or should that be “Guns” based on his current project?) as no specific details about the films showing at the festival or the schedule have been released yet.  As the festival, which will be in only its third year in 2014, happens over three days in early April it will likely be a few weeks from now before we know more.

Often such film festivals have a variety of categories so it would be no surprise to see The Coin screened in the International Film category.  The irony being that ‘friend of KM UK’ Fabien is French.

Congratulations to all involved on the project receiving even more recognition.

PS.  At the time of writing a US quarter (25 cents, US$0.25) is currently worth around 19 euro cents (€0.19).

Revival House Extension #3

revival_house_logo_430x38.gif

6 months on from the last of these updates we have latest one.

Kathryn’s production company, Revival House, (it is little more than a name at this point) has still to be officially put to use.  The trademark on the name was originally granted back in April 2012.  After successfully receiving permission to use the moniker within a given market you have 6 months to show proof of the mark being used commercially, or an extension must be applied for.  Up to five of those extensions can be requested.  If all are granted that gives you a total of 3 years.  Use it or lose it.

At the very end of September 2013 the third extension was requested and it was approved by the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) just a few days later.

The previous extra-time allowance (#2) given back in April was followed by the news of Kathryn starring in and executive producing a remake of the 70s horror film Alice Sweet Alice.  We’ve not heard anything new on this project, due to be written and directed by Dante Tomaselli (Torture Chamber), since then but these things take time and Kathryn’s had other things on her mind.

So, Kathryn has another 6 months to issue use the trademark and submit a “Statement Of Use” showing that.

The Trademarkia website has all the details.

Be Aware Of Greeks Following Protocol

on_set_012Not entirely sure what the protocol is here…  :-)

Actress Xen Sia (above right with Kathryn) is the October cover star of the monthly New York-based NEO Magazine, which focuses on American Greeks.  Xen appeared on KM UK’s  radar earlier this year when she starred in, what we believed at the time, was a short film called The Protocol by Johnny Messner’s “Johnny Be Goode” production company.

The exact nature of the film (plot etc.) is not known to us but we are aware that Kathryn had a role, along with Max Ryan (Death Race),  Joel Cavness, Will Crown and, of course, Xen Sia (Casino Jack).  Filming took place over a few days in the middle of July.  Since then we’ve not heard anything on the project.  Until now.

Xen Sia has been interviewed for NEO Magazine and it gives us a very different take on the production, and a nice comment about Kathryn:

Her savvy, go-getter attitude is what landed Sia a starring role as Agent Amanda Chase in “The Protocol”, a cutting edge television series/episodic produced by Brad Feinstein. Also featuring Kathryn Morris (“Cold Case” and “Minority Report”), Max Ryan (“Death Race”) and Johnny Messner (“Tears of the Sun”), the series is currently in the midst of a bidding war between several networks. One highlight from the production experience for Sia, was getting to know and learn from her colleague, Morris.

“She really took me under her wing, and was so nurturing and motherly,” Sia said of the well-respected actress.

So, The Protocol could become much more than we thought.  If it were to become a TV series it does not necessarily mean that Kathryn would be starring in it.

You can read the full article by Eleni Kostopoulos HERE on the NEO Magazine website.

We will update you with further news on The Protocol when we can.  Doing so before then would be difficult :-)

The Coin Slots In Bear-ly On Saturday

big_bear_lake_international_film_festival_180x128

This weekend sees short film The Coin getting another screening.  This time it is Big Bear Lake International Film Festival as we reported back in early August.

Since that last post the BBLIFF (!) has released a full programme of events and screenings.  The Coin will be shown as part of the “Shorts Program 10” at the Village Theatres North venue on Saturday (21st September) at 4pm local time.  The bill includes 6 other short films.

The Coin is a short film starring Kathryn Morris and Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future). It was filmed last summer and is about a young boy meeting a homeless man at a shop. Kathryn plays the boy’s very stressed mother.

You can read more about the BBLIFF at the event’s website.  If you are in the area at weekend please let us know.
