The Perfect Guy Finds Kathryn

News!  We have news!

Just to get your inevitable question dealt with up front: yes I am a perfect guy, but I am not this perfect guy :-)

News broke over night that principal photography (that’s actual filming) began yesterday (6th August 2014) on a movie called The Perfect Guy.  It’s a thriller by director David Rosenthal (A Single Shot) and writer Tyger Williams (Menace II Society).

Sanaa Lathan (Nip/Tuck) stars as Leah who, after breaking up with her long-time boyfriend, finds herself in a new relationship with the titular perfect guy, Carter, played by Michael Ealy (Almost Human).  Of course, no one is actually perfect (Kathryn excepted!) and so things take a turn for the worse for Leah when carter turns violent and starts to stalk her.  What do you expect, it’s a thriller called The Perfect Guy after all!

Morris Chestnut (Nurse Jackie) is the ex.  But what about Kathryn?

Kathryn, Charles S. Dutton (Alien3) and Rutina Wesley (True Blood) will be co-starring as close friends of Leah.  I think we can assume that this will be a relatively small role for Kathryn, but we very much welcome the news that she is returning to work a year after the birth of her twin boys.

The film by Screen Gems, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures, is currently listed as being released next year (2015).  There is nothing more specific than that at this time.

KM UK will of course bring you more news as we get it.

You can read the news item in full on the Broadway World website here.

The Coin Walks Like Egyptian

egyptian_theatre_430x180For those that can’t wait until the beginning of August to see the short film The Coin there’s good news.

screenshot_001The film has been included in a collection of short films to be shown at the famous Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California, in a couple of weeks.  You may recognise the theatre as the one where the première of Cougars, Inc. was held at back in 2011.

Under the banner of ‘Local Shorts’, because all the directors are based in LA, a total of eight films will be shown, three of them are LA premières.

The screening will start at 7:30pm, Thursday, 17th July at the venue on Hollywood Boulevard.  Tickets are $11.

You can find more details on the American Cinematheque website.  A word of warning: if you choose to watch the trailer for It’s A Lovely Day, don’t do so if you have a headache :-)

Thanks to Fabien Martorell (the writer/director/producer of The Coin) again for letting us know.

The Coin At The San Antonio Film Festival

san_antonio_film_festival_430x140I don’t know exactly when this was happened, as there has been no fanfare about it yet, but the San Antonio Film Festival schedule has been released.

screenshot_001And what does this schedule tell us?  It tells us what is happening and when.  That’s what schedules are for after all.  Was it really that difficult a question? :-)

Of particular interest to us of course is what the timetable says about when The Coin, the short film by Fabien Martorell that stars Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd, gets a screening in Texas.  Two weeks ago we found out that the film was an official selection of the festival.

The Coin will be part of a set of 5 films to shown at the City Base Cinema, Military Drive, San Antonio, starting at 8pm on the 2nd of August.  That’s a Saturday.

Tickets are available via the festival’s official website HERE and are $15 each, not including a $1.82 “Fee”.

What We Angels Know

poster_001In Thursday’s piece about seeing The Coin at the Champs-Élysée Film Festival by reader Diane you will have noticed reference to a future project by director Fabien Martorell called What No Angels Know.

The news that Diane broke here on KM UK is that a feature length film based on the short is in the works.  One of the writers involved was present at the Paris-based event and confirmed the plan for a 2015 release.  Diane followed-up by questioning the gentleman as to the likely cast.  He said that cast would reprise their roles.  So, Kathryn could get to be shouty mother again.

What No Angels Know pinged on my radar just a few days earlier and investigations in to the question of whether Kathryn would be in this new film only drew a “maybe”.  I decided not to post about it as there was so little to say.  It was little more than a vague rumour.  I think that Diane’s information pushes it to a “definitely maybe” so it is worth noting.  Things can change so much in the process of making a film, just look at the news that Colin Firth will not be the voice of Paddington Bear in the upcoming movie just a few months before it is due for release, so for now we’ll keep this in “possible” pile.

KM UK will bring you further news as and when.

The Coin Takes The Prize In Paris

champs_elysees_film_festival_960x355The Champs-Élysées Film Festival ended this evening with a closing ceremony and a screening of film The Trial of Viviane Amsalem.  Short film The Coin by Fabien Martorell, and starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd, was screened at the festival last Friday night as one of a selection of American shorts.

Awards were also handed out at the finale, including the ‘Audience Award for the Best American Short Film’.

And the winner was… The Coin.

Congratulations to all involved.

We’ll bring you more about the screening later this week.
