You Get Me. But When?

you_get_me_poster_001There has not been much to say about the upcoming thriller teen drama You Get Me for months.

Considering the likes of stars du jour Bella Thorne (Shake It Up!) and Nash Grier, as well as TV series stalwart and new NCIS team member Jennifer Esposito (Spin City), are in it you would think it worthy of more hype.  The film was announced back in March and Kathryn’s involvement in April.  Since then there’s been almost nothing.  We don’t know details of Kathryn’s role or if she really is starring at all.  Some confirmation would be nice.

A couple of weeks ago a poster and some photos from the film appeared on IMDb.  Since then they have been removed.  The poster, as it was, took a couple of images from the film and gave it the ‘Coming Soon’ treatment.  An exact release date had not been specified but 2016 appears now to have slipped into 2017.  Kathryn was not in any of the pictures nor is she amongst the cast listed on the poster.

A copy of the poster (right) can found in the KM UK Gallery here.

I guess we’ll be waiting a little longer then.  You get me?

Cold Case Japan Débuts

Cold_Case_Japan_Promo_photo_1600x1190They’re all there:  Will, John, Lilly, Nick, Scotty, file boxes.  But some how they look different.

The locally created Japanese version of Cold Case premièred today (22nd October 2016).  Or was it yesterday?  At the time of writing it is very late in the day in Tokyo.  Is it now?  It all makes my head ow.  Speaking of which the show is being broadcast on the WOWOW TV network in Japan, the home of the American version there too.

The news of this local version being in the works broke back in April, at the time it was said that 10 episodes had been commissioned.  From looking at the WOWOW website (even though I cannot read Japanese) it looks like that is still the case.

Cold Case Japan is set in the Kanagawa Prefecture.  This is south of Tokyo and has a mix of topography from major cities like the capital Yokohama, to more mountainous regions, and ancient areas.  The large bay and the fact that Yokohama is such a major port for the country makes it a good replacement for Philadelphia.  The Prefecture gives a lot of scope for vary varied stories across all aspects of Japanese life now and, as is so important to the show, the past.  The theme music is based on “Nara” by E.S. Posthumus too.

Cold_Case_Japan_Promo_smallYō Yoshida leads the cast as ‘Yuri Ishikawa’.  In a lovely nod to the original ‘Yuri’ translates as Lily.  ‘Ishikawa’ apparently is a combination of the words ‘stone’ and ‘river’ or ‘stream’.  That sounds like Lilly Rush:  a stone, with hidden undercurrents.

I hope the Japanese viewers enjoyed their new TV show as much as they enjoyed the American original.  If you have seen the programme and want to tell us what you thought then please contact me or post a comment below.  We’d love to hear from you.

I’ve a new ‘Global versions’ sub-section to the Cold Case area of the KM UK Gallery, kicked things off with a Japan album and put the above photo and a short promo video to it.  You can see it here.

The Coin @ Northeast Film Festival

northeast_film_festival_logo_330x330The Northeast Film Festival in New Jersey USA has released their schedule for the 2016 running of the event.

So we can now confirm what the writer/director Fabien Martorell had already mentioned:  his short film The Coin will be screened on Sunday, the 11th of September

The Teaneck Cinemas in Teaneck township of Bergen County will be hosting a group of eleven short films (two described as being as little as 1 minute long) from 2pm.

The Christopher Lloyd (Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and Kathryn starring film is listed as being the last of the set in a slot that could be as much as 2 hours long in to.  Tickets are available via the official event website HERE from $12.

As is often the case at these festivals there is a closing gala with a collection of awards covering such areas as acting, directing and screenplay for features and shorts.  Sadly The Coin‘s only nod is for Christopher in the ‘Best Actor In A Short’ category.  He competes with fellow nominees Lance Henrikson (his slightly less zany alter ego?) and Henry Ian Cusick (Lost).  The ‘Best Actress In A Short’ is missing Kathryn but does include luminaries Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Lost‘s Sonya Walger.  Henry and Sonya are both up for a short called Visible.

N.E. More Festivals For The Coin?

northeast_film_festival_logo_330x330Reports of The Coin being spent have been greatly exaggerated.

There haven’t been such reports but I’ve got to open the post with something :-)

Back in 2012, just over four years ago in fact, we first heard of this short film by writer/director Fabien Martorell and starring Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and Kathryn.

Despite the length of time that’s passed the film continues to make occasional appearances at film festivals since it premièred at one in June of 2013.  It won a directorial award last time out in April.  There can’t be many films that have stayed on the circuit for so long.

On Wednesday (10th August) Fabien, via the short’s Facebook page, let it be known that The Coin would be getting another outing.  This time is at the Northeast Film Festival in New Jersey.  The event starts on Friday the 9th of September and runs until the Sunday.  The Teaneck Cinemas in the Teaneck township of Bergen County in the north east corner of New Jersey will be the venues of the festival.

An actual schedule has not yet been released but Fabien suggests it will be on the Sunday of the weekend.  We’ll let you know when we have more details.

The Northeast Film Festival website is HERE.

Bone Tomahawk A Steel On Disc In UK

blu-ray_box_003The Bone Tomahawk story is not quite over in the UK.

On Monday-week (15th August 2016) a special edition of the movie Blu-ray is being released exclusively by the online retailer Zavvi.

The ‘special’ is the case the disc comes in.  Rather than the standard plastic box that Blu-ray’s normally come in (as Bone Tomahawk itself does, albeit with a black horizontal stripe across the top) this is a special metal box.  It is being called a ‘steelbook’ and has different art on it too compared with the previously available versions.  Check it out in the image above.  Very skull-y.

A larger version of the front cover image joins the one above in the KM UK Gallery.

At £18 it is around the same price as the initial Blu-ray release so if you are going to buy a copy why not go with this one.

You can find the details on the Zavvi website HERE.

As I am sure you are aware by now Bone Tomahawk harks back to the classic western, a genre largely ignored of late, but adds in the more on-trend twist of a sort of zombie-like creature and throws in a big dose of a horror.  It’s a horror western.  Kurt Russell (Death Proof) stars as the sheriff who takes it upon himself to rescue some kidnapped townsf0lk from the murderous savages.  Matthew Fox (Lost), Patrick Wilson (Insidious), and Richard Jenkins (Let Me In) join the ill-fate adventure.  Kathryn has a small role as the wife of Sheriff Hunt.  Lili Simmons (Banshee) is one of those taken.
