The Coin’s Future Firms Up

LA_Firm_Inc_UK_Issue_29On Thursday Fabien Martorell, the director of the film The Coin, reminded us via Twitter that the short will be featuring in the Underexposed Film Festival in a couple of weeks.  KM UK covered the initial announcement previously.  Exact details of the screening will be posted here nearer the time.

I understand that The Coin will be shown at even more festivals in the coming months, both in the US and abroad.  KM UK will be reporting on those as soon as the news breaks.

In the meantime this is a good opportunity to bring to you a review by Darcell Carraway of LA Firm Inc Magazine of the 8 minute feature starring Kathryn, Christopher Lloyd (Piranha 3DD) and young Jack Ryan Shepherd.

“Kathryn Morris was electrifying…”

Los Angeles Firm Inc Magazine is an online and print publication that “cover[s]… all facets of [the] commercial entertainment industry” including fashion and movies.  Darcell is the CEO of Los Angeles Firm Inc, Editor In Chief of the magazine, and Creative Director of sister company Victoria Marie Fashion.  Darcell has very kindly allowed KM UK to host a high quality copy of the double page spread from the UK version of the magazine (see top right) for you all to see.  You can find it in the Gallery.  The article is primarily a profile of Fabien but ends with this glowing review of The Coin:

Not every critic has the same view and not every person doing films is cut out for it.  When I first sat down to watch The Coin, I was very anxious to see it.  I was very impressed by the quality of the presentation.  However, more importantly the acting was amazing.  I felt center stage at the theatre the whole way through.  Our recommendations are based solely on our appreciation for effortless brilliance and art.  The crazed mother played by Kathryn Morris was electrifying for lack of better words while Christopher Llyod [sic] was stellar in his role as the guardian angel.  We rank this short film with some of the elite blockbusters from the 80’s and 90’s like 48 hrs. or even Misery.  I find a very alluring and passion filled director in Fabien Martorell.  Classic in plain english [sic].

Many thanks to Darcell for his generosity.  You can find out more about LA Firm Inc Magazine via their Facebook page HERE.

Be Aware Of Greeks Following Protocol

on_set_012Not entirely sure what the protocol is here…  :-)

Actress Xen Sia (above right with Kathryn) is the October cover star of the monthly New York-based NEO Magazine, which focuses on American Greeks.  Xen appeared on KM UK’s  radar earlier this year when she starred in, what we believed at the time, was a short film called The Protocol by Johnny Messner’s “Johnny Be Goode” production company.

The exact nature of the film (plot etc.) is not known to us but we are aware that Kathryn had a role, along with Max Ryan (Death Race),  Joel Cavness, Will Crown and, of course, Xen Sia (Casino Jack).  Filming took place over a few days in the middle of July.  Since then we’ve not heard anything on the project.  Until now.

Xen Sia has been interviewed for NEO Magazine and it gives us a very different take on the production, and a nice comment about Kathryn:

Her savvy, go-getter attitude is what landed Sia a starring role as Agent Amanda Chase in “The Protocol”, a cutting edge television series/episodic produced by Brad Feinstein. Also featuring Kathryn Morris (“Cold Case” and “Minority Report”), Max Ryan (“Death Race”) and Johnny Messner (“Tears of the Sun”), the series is currently in the midst of a bidding war between several networks. One highlight from the production experience for Sia, was getting to know and learn from her colleague, Morris.

“She really took me under her wing, and was so nurturing and motherly,” Sia said of the well-respected actress.

So, The Protocol could become much more than we thought.  If it were to become a TV series it does not necessarily mean that Kathryn would be starring in it.

You can read the full article by Eleni Kostopoulos HERE on the NEO Magazine website.

We will update you with further news on The Protocol when we can.  Doing so before then would be difficult :-)

Kathryn In Not So Sweet Alice

concept_art_001Website The Inquisitr.com reported yesterday (15th April 2013) that Kathryn has been cast in a lead role in a remake of the 1970s horror film Alice Sweet Alice.

Also, Kathryn’s production company Revival House will be co-producing along with the company that manages her career, Mosaic Media Group.

The original Alice Sweet Alice (aka Communion) was a 1976 film by director/writer Alfred Sole and writer Rosemary Ritvo.  The plot involved the murder of a young girl called Karen and the suspicion that her older sister Alice was responsible.  Further deaths occur and Alice is increasingly thought to be the killer.  It starred Brooke Shields (Suddenly Susan) in her first film role as Karen and Paula E Sheppard as Alice.  Linda Miller (The Mississippi) was Catherine Spages, the girls’ mother.

Kathryn is described as taking the role of the mother, Catherine.

New Jersey born Dante Tomaselli has been working on remaking Alice for some time with a teaser poster being released last October.  He wrote initial drafts of the script and brought in Michael Gingold of Fangoria Magazine to co-write the screenplay. Dante will be directing.  Dante has four feature films to his name, all in the horror genre.  What else could a man called Dante do but make horror films?

It looks like Alfred Sole (now a production designer on Castle) was responsible for getting Kathryn involved.  She agreed to executive produce and brought Mosaic Media Group to the table.  They are, apparently, targeting a cinematic release of the remake.

Dante gave an interview to the Aric Mitchell at the Inquistr website, which is where news of this development first broke.  You can read Aric’s piece in full HERE.  Aric has a lot of connections to the original film himself.

When asked about casting Dante said:

Kathryn Morris will star as Catherine Spages, Alice’s mother. Kathryn was the lead in the CBS series Cold Case and had a role as Tom Cruise’s wife in Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report. She’s like a chameleon — totally versatile. Slips right into a role. Her character in Alice is modelled after the original Catherine Spages, played by Linda Miller. In keeping with the spirit of the original, Kathryn’s character will look and feel similar, strikingly beautiful, perfectly sculpted dark hair, fiercely protective of her children and plagued by deep Catholic guilt.

The casting of the other roles has not yet taken place.

The trailer for the 1976 film, for some reason with the different name of Holy Terror, is included in the article.  It seems to be trying to suggest that Brooke Shields is Alice, and pretty much saying that Alice is the killer.  The first is not true and the second…

What we don’t know at this stage is the timing of the production.  Kathryn clearly has other things to deal with at the moment including babies and a possible TV show due for delivery in September of this year.  If Surgeon General goes ahead with a full season order then it could be next year before she has enough free time to make a film.  It is quite common for actors tied to series to use the short time in the summer between filming seasons to take on other projects like film roles.  These projects can take a while to get off the ground and such time scales are common.

Hopefully we’ll hear more on this soon and can look forward to another very different role for Kathryn, both in front of and behind the camera.  And, it is good to see that Kathryn’s production company Revival House is alive and well.

The trailer and some concept art images are now in the Gallery.

Thank you to Kathy for the heads-up.

Kathryn Guests On Brett Gursky Podcast

on_the_list_with_brett_gursky_logo_150x150Kathryn made a surprise guest appearance on the Brett Gursky “On The List” podcast on the HAHAJK website.

The interview is primarily Johnny Messner talking about his recent role in the play “A Family Thing” and his career to date.  Kathryn is in the studio and joins in occasionally, either in the background or more ‘on mic’.  In a odd quirk of fate Kathryn was key in Johnny getting the part in the play.

The text on the website that describes the podcast includes the following sentence:

Johnny’s girlfriend Kathryn Morris (Cold Case) is a surprise special guest and joins them in the discussion as well.

You can hear the whole two and half hour long podcast on the HAHAJK website HERE.  A small copy has been added to the Gallery.

We’ll post an update if there is anything significant regarding Kathryn in it.

Update:  At around the 1:20 mark the conversation turns to Cold Case so Kathryn gets more involved.

Kathryn A No Show At TCA Winter Press Tour 2013

hallmark_channel_black_190x85We could have had our first public appearance of Kathryn for 2013 yesterday evening (Friday, 4th January 2013) but it wasn’t to be.

The annual Television Critics Association Winter Tour has been taking place this past week, and continues for at least one more.  Each day one or more of the television networks announce upcoming shows and films.  Key cast and production staff members take part in presentations and Q&As with members of the press.

On Friday it was the turn of the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel Winter 2013 TCA Gala.  Bill Abbott (President & CEO, Hallmark Channels) and Michelle Vicary (Executive Vice President, Programming Crown Media Family Networks) spoke to those assembled about the TV shows and films that will feature across the various Hallmark channels in the first half of 2013.

Cedar Cove, starring Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings And A Funeral) and based on the series of books by Debbie Macomber, featured heavily.  It is the networks first ever prime-time scripted drama.  A host of film premières, including next weekend’s Nearlyweds were also announced.  Many of the stars of the various productions attended the event.

But what of The Sweeter Side Of Life?  I hear you ask.  Here is what they said:

THE SWEETER SIDE OF LIFE premières Jan 19 and stars Kathryn Morris as a Manhattan socialite who suddenly finds herself single and returning home to work in her father’s small town bakery.  Kathryn Morris sends apologies that she could not make it this evening.  But James Best who plays Kathryn’s father is here with us this evening as well as Executive Producers and writers Janeen Damian and Michael Damian who also directed the movie.
