Kathryn @ Alliance For Children’s Rights Awards – March 2008

childrens_rights_awards_46On this day in history in the year of [insert preferred deity reference or leave blank] 2008…

The date was the 10th of March.  It was a Monday that year as well.

The Alliance For Children’s Rights held their annual dinner and awards event.

Kathryn was there.

She over did the lipstick.  I’m aware that there is supposed to be some symbolism involved in the wearing of lipstick (which we won’t go into any further here) but if there is any truth to it in this case a doctor should be sought.  Apply some cream to the effected area or something.  They match the shoes though and otherwise Kathryn does look great in her black & white dress and Wonder Woman bracelet.  But, with only one of them she’ll only be stopping traffic, not bullets.

The Alliance For Children’s Rights is a charity that aims to help children in need, especially those in foster care.  You can find out more about the organisation on their website here.  This year’s event is due to happen in a month’s time on April 7th.

8 variously-sized new photos of Kathryn at the Awards are now in the KM UK Gallery.

Kathryn @ Minority Report DVD Launch – Feb 2003

minority_report_dvd_012Oh, oh!  I think the KM UK time machine (the KARDIS? not be konfused with a kardashian!) must be broken. It’s started moved in space as well as time, and seems to have turned into a teleport device like The Fly!  Something has gone horribly, albeit beautifully, wrong! Abort! Abort!

We entered 27 Feb 2003 - Minority Report DVD Launch into the control panel and we’ve ended up in… Spain of all places.  And we don’t have a ‘Cruise’ in front of us.  We’ve got a ‘Cruz’.  That’s an even shorter ‘Cruise’ (there was no way we were getting through this without a height joke).  Joking aside, it’s Mónica Cruz, younger sister of Penélope who, I understand, was in a relationship with Tom at this time.  In keeping with the plot of Minority Report seeing the two ladies together like that I have a vision of a future crime or two being committed.  I can’t be in the minority with that (see what I did there?) 😮

Kathryn starred in Minority Report as Lara Clarke, the estranged wife of Tom’s John Anderton character.  The loss of their son is a key element of the story and Kathryn plays an important role in the later stages.  The very successful Steven Spielberg-directed sci-fi movie, based on a short story by Philip K Dick, also stars Max von Sydow, Samantha Morton and Colin Farrell.

One last thing: who is that dummy on the right? :-)

13 photos of Kathryn and Mónica in Madrid to promote the VHS and DVD launch of Minority Report in Spain are now the KM UK Gallery.

We will no doubt be returning to both 2003 and Minority Report in the future.

Kathryn @ ACE Eddie Awards – Feb 2001

ace_eddie_awards_003The things some people come up with.

I have no idea how many of these groups, organisations and trade bodies exist but so many of them seem to have their own awards and accompanying ceremonies.

Of course, only the very best create cleverly named statues that appear at first to bear no relation to the subject at hand but then when you think about harder it is very, very clever.  Who, me?  I don’t know what you mean :-)

The American Cinema Editors (you can’t tell me they didn’t strive to reverse engineer that acronym) want to make sure the people working in their field get some recognition beyond the Oscars etc. and you can’t argue with that.  The Eddie (see what they did there?) has been given since 1962 after previously just holding a dinner to honour the Oscar nominees in the editing categories.  Since then it has branched out to include awards for dramas, comedies, animations and TV.  Oh yes, I can read Wikipedia with the best of them :-0  Whoever short-listed the TV series for the 2014 event must have got a Breaking Bad DVD boxset for Xmas as it had 4 of the 5 nominations.

The 2014 ACE Eddie Awards have happened already (7th Feb).  You can bet it is the slickest of shows, with no long-winded speeches, that always finishes on time.  No cutting off a winner mid-way through their acceptance speeches at the Eddies, oh no.  Switch flashback, we find ourselves in a time when Kathryn attended the ACE Eddie Awards.  Picture the scene: it’s February, the 25th, the year is 2001.  Gladiator and Almost Famous are winning Eddies.  A beautiful young actress walks the red carpet.  It was a different time.  Kathryn attended award ceremonies for a start :-)

Three large and two small photos of Kathryn at the ACE Eddie Awards 2001 are now in KM UK the Gallery.  As you can see she had short hair and was wearing a simple black outfit.  Many thanks to Alexia at Marvellous Maxine Peake, a website about the actress Maxine Peake who is marvellous, for the big photos.

PS.  Before you say it, the irony of this piece being so long for the sake of 5 photos is not lost on me :-)

Kathryn @ CDG Awards – Feb 2005

cdga_03From the slightly ridiculous to the sublime.

The KM UK time machine has got stuck in 2005.  The TARDIS was always rather temperamental so why should our KMARDIS (no?) be any different.  It must be too much water in the works, or something.

For this latest hit of nostalgia we move on the 7th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards held on February 19th, 2005.

Now, I can’t claim to know about these things but I get the impression that Kathryn’s outfit (as so wonderfully modelled by her on the left) is the sort of dress that little girls dream of.  A real fairy princess look.

I do feel that I can, however, speak for slightly older boys and say “we likey!” 😛

As much as I hate being a pedant (OK, I love it) but aren’t the costume designers nominated for their work on TV and in films?  In that case doesn’t it seem odd that all actresses turn up to the event in designer outfits and not the costumes being honoured?  It would make for a very different red carpet if they did.  Kathryn certainly never wore that outfit on Cold Case.  I’d definitely remember that!  Best.  Episode.  Ever!

The next CDG Awards is due to take place this coming Saturday (22nd Feb).

2 large and one small photo, and 3 videos, of Kathryn attending the CDGAs in 2005 are now in KM UK the Gallery.

Monte Mentioned Mentoring Morris

epiphone_001The photo on the right was taken on the set of Cold Case at some point during the production of the show’s 4th season.  To celebrate reaching the milestone the cast apparently gave 200 custom-made Epiphone guitars to the crew.  Exactly when this happened is not clear but it was published on the Epiphone website in February of 2007.  That photo and a close-up of the guitar are in the Gallery.  The image popped up in a search for references to Kathryn and guitars, based on a vague memory of Kathryn being pictured with one.

This was a nice chance to look back at an event not previously dealt with on KM UK, and post the photo, but it is actually a digression from the real point of this post.  I get distracted by the pretty pictures :-)

Echoes And Dust, a London-based music news and review site which specialises in a “particular dark corner of Indiedom”, has today (7th Feb 2014) published an interview by Andrew Rawlinson with guitarist Monte Pittman.  I have to plead ignorance of such things but in the guitar world Monte is a bit of big deal.  He’s probably best known for writing, performing and touring with Madonna after meeting her through her (then) husband Guy Ritchie (not to be confused with yours truly :-) ).  They met when Monte taught Guy to play guitar.

In the interview Andrew asks Monte about his famous third student and if he’s ever taught anyone else famous:

Monte Pittman: His assistant, Nathan, got my number and let up lessons for “his boss”. When I left for the first Madonna tour I did, I had 55 students in circulation. I taught Kathryn Morris who later went on to star in the show “Cold Case”. I taught Catherine Keener and Dermot Mulroney. I taught Brad Pitt. Those are a few that immediately come to mind because they were so cool to me. I gave Dido a guitar lesson once.

Insert your own joke about a second one being key :-)

The phrase “later went on to star in… CC” tells us something about the timing but not much.  Could it have been for her short (and cut shorter) role in the Spielberg movie AI?

Monte recently released a new solo album called The Power Of Three.

You can read the whole article on the Echoes And Dust website here.
