The Coin Is Speechless

speechless_film_festival_logo_180x180No, The Coin, the short film by Fabien Martorell, has not been turned into a silent movie.  Though, having said that, it could work as one.

I was aware this news was coming but Fabien let the cat out of the bag a little earlier than expected.  It’s festival week on KM UK!

In this case ‘speechless’ refers to the Speechless Film Festival, which is held in the city of Mankato, Minnesota.  Mankato is around 70 miles (115km) south of Minneapolis.  One of its claims-to-fame is featuring in the TV series Little House On The Prairie as a nearby trading town.

The remark above about The Coin possibly working as a silent film is not a throw-away one.  The focus of the Speechless Film Festival is communication via the visual medium of film, regardless of the language used in any dialogue.  Fabien’s strong imagery should serve his short film well.

This, the 3rd annual SFF, is scheduled to take place over two days in the latter half of March.  More details as we get them.

Information about the festival can be found on the official website HERE.

Short. Sweet. April Shower

short_sweet_film_fest_cleveland_937x861Mere hours after yesterday’s post about the non-appearance of the ‘Short. Sweet. Film Fest‘ event over the weekend there was a break.  Announcements have been made.

A coincidence?  I’ll leave that for you to decide.

The festival has been moved to the 10th-12th April of this year and it will be held in the new ‘Alex Theater At The 9’.

‘The 9’ is a re-development of the former Ameritrust complex in Cleveland, Ohio.  Finished last September the site now contains apartments, offices, a hotel and various entertainment venues, including the Alex Theater.  In fact the number of different elements totals… wait for it… 8… and that one :-)

Details of the ‘Short. Sweet. Film Fest’ schedule are not yet available, so we don’t know exactly when you’ll be able to see The Coin, but there is plenty of time for that.

Tickets for the festival are available via the official website HERE.

Short. Sweet. F.A.

short_sweet_film_fest_cleveland_937x861Two weeks ago I posted that another screening of the short film The Coin was pending.

Writer/director/producer Fabien Martorell had told us that his long-running 9 minute production was to be shown at the ‘Short. Sweet. Film Fest’ in Cleveland, Ohio.

The information at the time was the the event would take place over the weekend just gone, the 6-8th of February.

However, there was some evidence that the festival had been moved to a similar long weekend date in early April.  It wasn’t clear though.

With the initial dates having now passed us by I think it is safe to say that the ‘Short. Sweet. Film Fest’ was a no-show in February.  It’s one thing for a film to not make it, but a whole festival?

Hopefully things will become clearer as the alternative time arrives and the good burghers of Cleveland will get their chance to see Kathryn, Christopher Lloyd (Deadly Games) and the (not so) young (now) Jack Ryan Shepherd in action.

KM UK will of course bring you more details when we can.

We now return you to your normally scheduled…

The Coin Is Short. Sweet. Fest?

short_sweet_film_fest_cleveland_937x861Having previously (in the KM UK Xmas Message 2014) described The Coin as “the little movie that could” I had assumed we’d heard the last of it doing the festival circuit.

It’s most recent showing was at the Enfoque International Film Festival in Puerto Rico in November.

Well, you know what they say about assumptions… they can turn out to be wrong.  “Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.”

Late last week The Coin‘s writer/director/producer Fabien Martorell let it be known that his short film starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) has been selected for another festival.  This time it is the ‘Short. Sweet. Film Fest‘ in Cleveland, Ohio.

I’d like to be able to pass on the news that the festival is happening on February 6th to the 8th at the Thwing (not a typo) Ballroom in University Circle.  However the latest message from the organisers states that the event is scheduled for 10-12th April at the Alex Theater.  There is no comment stating this is a change.

At the time of posting the festival’s own website is lacking up to date information so it is difficult to know what is going on.  Either way, the denizens of Cleveland can look forward to an opportunity to see The Coin in the near (or medium) future.

Either way I’ll try and keep you informed as we get closer to the time.

The Coin @ Enfoque On Friday

gold_coast_international_film_festival_851x315Having decrypted the cunning Only Connect picture round-style puzzle (hi Vicky!) I determined when The Coin will be shown at the Enfoque International Film Festival for a previous post.

screenshot_001The answer was that the short film by Fabien Martorell would be shown at the Puerto Rico celebration of films from around the world on Friday the 14th.

That would be this coming Friday, making this a reminder with just a few days to go for any of you that might be in a position to… err… go.

Those wishing to see Christopher Lloyd (Roger Rabbit) and Kathryn in the 9 minute long drama need to go to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in… err… Puerto Rico at 7:30pm.

More details can be found at the festival’s website here.
