The Coin @ LA Shorts Fest

la_shortsfest_2013_430x105

No, it’s not a convention only for those deficient in the trouser/pant* department.  Nor does it involve lashing anything to an ‘ort’s fest’, what ever an ort or its fest may be.  It’s, and you should probably be sitting down for this, a festival of short films in Los Angeles.

la_shortsfest_2013_430x105Once again the director/writer/producer of the short film The Coin, Fabien Martorell, has let KM UK know via the modern communication medium that is Twitter that the film has made the selection another film festival.  This time it the 17th annual Los Angeles International Short Film Festival.

The Shorts Fest takes place between the 5th and the 12th of September at the Laemmle NoHo 7 theatre in North Hollywood.  The exact date of The Coin’s screen(s) is not known at this time.  We’ll bring you more when we know it.

You can read more about the LA Shorts Fest the official website.  If you’re a local, or a visitor at the time, and are able to attend please let us know what it is like.

Thanks once more to Fabien for contacting KM UK.  Best of British to him and all involved.

On the right, and in the Gallery, is a large sized version of the festival’s poster.  It has the slogan “Once upon a time, The End.”

palm_springs_international_shortfest_2013_600x730

Fabien Martorell has sent a Tweet, following a Facebook page post, that his short film The Coin will première at the Palm Springs International ShortFest on Saturday the 22nd of June.  It will be at a 1:30pm screening at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs.

The short film, which stars Kathryn Morris and Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future), was filmed last summer and revolves around a young boy meeting a homeless man at a shop.  Kathryn plays the boy’s very stressed mother.

The official programme for the event is not due to be released until tomorrow (9th June 2013) but Fabien has clearly been given the information ahead of time.

We wish everyone involved in the production all the best with the event.

You can read more about the ShortFest at the event’s website.

Update (9 June 2013):  The official programmes have been released by the ShortFest organisers.  The Coin will be screened alongside 8 other short films in a package called FantasyLand.  The group is comprised of films from all over the world including France, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.  As The Coin shows, these short productions can include some internationally famous actors.  An entry in FantasyLand from England, called Dust, stars Alan Rickman (Die Hard) and Jodie Whittaker (Attack The Block).  Fellow Brit actors Ian McKellen (X-Men), Brenda Blethyn (Little Voice) and Christopher Eccleston (Dr Who), and singer and The Voice UK coach Tom Jones also have roles in other films across the festival.

Update (10 June 2013):  The Palm Springs International ShortFest official press release announcing the 2013 line-up has been published.  You can read it here.  The world premiere of The Coin and Christopher Lloyd starring in it are mentioned, Kathryn is not name-checked but it’s an incredibly lengthy and impressive list of actors from all over the world so we’ll forgive the oversight on this occasion :-)

The Coin @ Palm Springs International ShortFest 2013

poster_001According to a post by Fabien Martorell on the Facebook page for the short film The Coin, it has been selected for the Palm Springs International ShortFest for 2013.  Fabien should know more than most as he is the director and co-writer of the short film.  Congratulations to all involved in that achievement.

The festival runs for a week in the latter half of June and will be showing more than 300 short films from all over the world.  Nothing has been announced officially by the festival organisers as the time of writing.  We will certainly let you know when that changes.

The Coin is a 9 minute long film starring Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) and Kathryn.  Kathryn plays the stressed-out mother of a young boy who meets a homeless man (Lloyd).

See previous posts on KM UK for more info on the project.  The ShortFest and the International Film Festival share a website which can be seen here.
