Before Kathryn became Lilly, she got a taste of what it was like to be the other side of the interrogation room table. The wily blonde still got her man but in this instance the blonde wasn’t Det. Rush, it was Jessica Fletcher, as played by Angela Lansbury in the long running TV show and four TV movies of Murder, She Wrote.
Released on Tuesday (14th Feb 2012) that quartet of movies is now available as a DVD box set in America. You can find it on the US Amazon store HERE.
Four years after a small role in one of the last ever episodes of the Murder, She Wrote TV series Kathryn starred in the second of the TV movies. A Story To Die For (the subtitle of the movie we are interested in) sees angel of death Jessica Fletcher (what? people are always dying when she’s around!) at a writers conference when, predictably enough, a murder takes place (see, told you!). Kathryn is Patricia Williams, an aspiring writer herself, who is at the conference to act as an assistant to Warren Pierce (an old friend of Jessica’s and also a writer). Eye-witnesses cause Patricia to come under suspicion and see her questioned by the police.
Screencaps of Kathryn in A Story To Die For have been in the KM UK Gallery for a long time and can be found HERE.
You want the good news or the bad news?
Sorry, I didn’t quite catch that so I’ll assume you said “bad”. The bad news is that I’m able to confirm that Kathryn does not feature at all in the extras on the US Moneyball Blu-ray, except for the deleted scene we already know about. Get the Blu-ray as it is still worth watching in HD. Robin Wright goes unmentioned as well, but at least she got a scene in the flick 😕
And the good news… no peaking at the subject above… what do you mean you’ve already read it? We’ll if that’s your attitude I’m not going to tell you 😡
Oh, OK, I can’t stay mad at you The good news is that we now have 30 full HD (1080p) screencaps of the lovely oh-so Kathryn from the Billy/Tara restaurant scene. You can find them in the Gallery. They are a little grainy, which is probably down to the darkness of the restaurant setting.
Moneyball is out on DVD and Blu-ray in the USA today, the 10th of Jan 2012.
I know there isn’t much for us Kathryn fans to see but the discs will have at least one, almost certainly only one in fact, deleted scene that features her in the role of Tara, Billy Beane’s second wife. Previously KM UK brought you an exclusive preview of the included deleted scene with Tara and Billy sharing a meal at a restaurant. Billy is, of course, played by Brad Pitt. Kathryn certainly filmed other scenes that were also cut from the film, it does not look like these will be released. A great shame indeed.
If you are in the US and pick up a copy of the home entertainment version of Moneyball please let us know what you think. What did you think of Kathryn’s performance?
Moneyball has certainly proved popular with the viewers and critics alike, and it has been nominated for multiple awards. The UK release of the DVD and Blu-ray is set for the 19th of March.
Update: This is the 500th article posted on KM UK.
Next Tuesday (10th Jan 2012) sees the release of Moneyball on DVD/Blu-ray in its North American homeland. As with the movie’s cinematic release, here in the United Kingdom there will be a couple of months delay before we get the home entertainment version.
The DVD and Blu-ray versions are now up for pre-order on the Amazon UK website (other online movie retailers exist) ahead of the March 19th release. There are even “special edition” versions listed that include a copy of the original book by Michael Lewis. At time of writing the prices for the ones with the book are the same as those without. Go figure.
No word yet on the DVD extras and whether they will include the restaurant scene starring Kathryn that we previewed here on KM UK just before Xmas. Often European versions suffer compared to their American cousins because they have more language tracks to fit in. Some extras get dropped to make space. The Blu-ray is more likely to be the same due to the higher capacity and the fact that it is region free.
Moneyball will be making headlines, not necessarily on KM UK though, in the coming months as we get into awards season. It has already received a nomination in the Producers Guild Awards, due to be announced on January 21st, and is likely to be up for Oscars.
The usual blurb: Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) challenges the system and defies conventional wisdom when he is forced to rebuild his small-market team, on a limited budget.
Update: DVDizzy has a review of the US DVD/Blu-ray release. It mentions three deleted scenes on the DVD. The first involves Philip Seymour Hoffman. The third is a sort of different ending. Their description of the second reduces it to “Billy on a date”. That’d be the scene exclusively previewed here on KM UK before Xmas with Brad and Kathryn in a restaurant. Way to reduce her role even further, from wife to “date”! The Blu-ray extras don’t sound like they include any more scenes involving Kathryn. Other reviews I’ve found echo all that.
Xmas has come early this year So much for having a quiet few days 😕
I’ve managed to get hold of a short preview of a deleted scene from the forthcoming Moneyball DVD, due out in early January. In the scene Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) and his wife Tara (Kathryn) share a meal in a restaurant. Billy is talking about work and Tara is being supportive. It’s sweet. Looks like being Mrs Brad Pitt agrees with Kathryn 😛
At this stage I don’t know if there will be other scenes starring Kathryn on the DVD or Blu-ray. Hopefully they will be more and they will be in HD. We’ll have more news on that at a later date. For now you’ll just have to manage with the small video and screencaps you can now find in the Gallery.
As posted about previously Moneyball is due for release on DVD and Blu-ray in America on the 10th of January.
