The Coin In Paris On Friday

champs_elysees_film_festival_960x355Another film festival reminder.

From a non-French speaking part of Canada to an area well known for its usage of the French language… France (obviously).

Today (11th June) marks the start of the Champs-Élysées Film Festival.  It is running until next Tuesday (the 17th) in various venues on or near the famous road in Paris.

Fabien Martorell’s short film The Coin gets a second-home screening (because Fabien is French) on Friday (13th) evening at the MK2 Grand Palais, which is near to the Place de la Concorde.

Unlike the recent Scarborough Film Festival where they took the slightly unusual step of pairing it with a feature film, the CE Film Festival is showing The Coin with 5 other American short films in a screening starting at 8:45pm.  The six are in competition under the “American Selection, Non School-Related” banner (aka the “Courts Métrages Américains (Hors écoles)” in French).  American film schools, such at the AFI, get their own section.

Not quite sure how this fits into that “American” theme but one of that rival quintet is a short called Insomniacs by Charles Chintzer Lai, which is set is London and co-stars the English rose Imogen Stubbs (who I haven’t seen anything for far too long).

The official Champs-Élysées Film Festival website HERE (now available in English) has all the info you could possibly want.

Do You Know The Way To San… Antonio?

san_antonio_film_festival_430x140Short film The Coin is heading South for the summer as it has been selected to be shown at the San Antonio Film Festival which is held, surprise surprise, in San Antonio, Texas.

screenshot_001The festival runs from Monday the 28th of July for a full seven days until Sunday the 3rd of August.

A schedule has not yet been released so we can’t yet say when The Coin will be shown.  I’ll bring you more on that when it happens.

What we do know is that Fabien Martorell’s 9 minute long film will be sharing the billing with 40 other shorts.  There are also an impressive 22 feature films announced to be shown.  I’ve not had a chance to go through the list so I don’t know if any are premières.

At this point I’d link to the festival’s official website HERE and say it has more details, but there is not a lot there about the 2014 festival at the time of writing.

Thanks again to Fabien for letting us know about this.

Any Texans out there that might go along?

The Coin @ Scarborough Film Fest On Saturday

scarborough_film_festival_935x362A quick reminder for our friends in the East of Canada with a penchant for film.

The short film The Coin which stars Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Who Framed Roger Rabit) Scarborough Film Festival this weekend.  Based in an area of Toronto, Ontario, the festival started on the Tuesday just gone and continues until Sunday.

Fabien Martorell’s 9 minute production will be shown at the Fox Theatre on Queen Street East in a double bill with a feature filmed called Macondo.  The show starts at 7pm on Saturday, 7th June.

Be there.  Or be elsewhere doing something else.  It’s up to you.  It’s your life.  I can’t tell you what to do.  I’m not your mother… or am I? *

Full details of the second running of the Scarborough Film Festival can be found on the event’s website HERE.

 * To clear up any confusion: I am not your mother.

Kathryn Isn’t The 1st Lady?

still_001The no doubt knowledgeable folk (Joe Reid and David Sims in this case) at news website The Wrap have taken the release of the latest Tom Cruise blockbuster movie vehicle, Edge Of Tomorrow, to pronounce on some of his female co-stars.

Joe and David have ranked Tom’s leading ladies in a top 13 based on his films since he last worked with is then wife Nicole Kidman on Eyes Wide Shut in 1999.

Emily Blunt’s character in Edge Of Tomorrow, which is basically War Of The Worlds (the Cruiser’s version) crossed with Groundhog Day, is a lot more forthright than many of the significant female roles in Tom’s other films.  She’s not the comic foil, damsel in distress, or damsel in/out of dat dress.  Clearly this put Emily’s Rita ahead of the pack.  But where do they place Kathryn in this pantheon of actresses?

Kathryn comes in at number 8.  Four slots above Olga Kurylenko in Oblivion.  Cameron Diaz is in the top 10 twice for Knight And Day and Vanila Sky.  Her co-star in that remake, Penelope Cruz (who was reprising her role from the original), is also in there.  Thandie Newton for Mission: Impossible II, Andrea Riseborough also in Oblivion and Michelle Monaghan and in Mission: Impossible 3 fill out the other top spots.

The guys say that Kathryn in “invests a lot of compassion in her performance” in her role as the estranged wife of Tom’s pre-crime cop in Minority Report.  But, they also say that Cold Case “ran for approximately ten thousand years on CBS” so facts may not be a feature of their pieces :-)

Of course few of the other women listed can not claim to have been Tom Cruise’s wife, Brad Pitt’s wife (Moneyball), Ben Affleck’s paramour (Paycheck), and Josh Hartnett’s ex (Resurrecting The Champ).  That is many of Hollywood finest right there.  Not to mention that Kathryn was one of the few foes that bested Xena: Warrior Princess and nearly stole her gal.  And, none of these ladies did seven years on a highly rated TV drama series either!  Not a bad strike rate.

You can read the article on The Wrap.  What are your thoughts?

And that’s a wrap!

2 Br/1 Ba To Be Released In Late 2014

on_set_20120927_009It’s been quite a long time since we last had any news about this project.

Filmed towards the end of 2012 2 Br/1 Ba (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, the description of a dwelling) has been looking for distribution ever since.  The last item KM UK published on this on the discovering of a couple of teaser trailers back in October 2013.

In the past 24 hours news has broken that the film, starring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) and Spencer Grammer (Greek), has been picked up by Lionsgate and Grindstone Entertainment for distribution later this year in the domestic (i.e. the USA) market.  No word so far on other territories.

2 Br/1 Ba is a drama about two roommates (Alexa as Janie and Spencer as Dee) who one day have a very destructive disagreement.  Kathryn has a supporting role as Olivia Morgan, exact details of her relationship with the two co-habitees is not know.

Congrats to all involved.  We look forward to finally seeing the film and KM UK will certainly bring you more news as and when we can.
