The Coin Breaks Free In The Big Smoke

portobello_free_film_festival_poster_511x485It has only been a week since I first posted about this event but it is worth a classic KM UK ‘quick reminder’, where ‘quick’ means the usual long ramble.

The short film The Coin starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) will be making a screening appearance at the Portobello Film Festival in London on Saturday (6th Sept).  It will be one of nearly 30 films shown under the banner ‘French Films’.  The collection is an eclectic mix ranging from 5 minutes to nearly 1.5 hours, and from the U (universal, i.e. suitable for all ages) to 18 certificates.

Based on my own guestimate and a Tweet by director/writer/producer Fabien Martorell’s the other day, The Coin could be shown at around 3pm.  I’m not sure if Fabien is basing his figure on something he’s been told, worked it out like me, or read it here.

A key element of the Portobello Film Festival that I managed to not really mention previously was the fact that it is free.  Free as in no charge, no tickets.  Age restrictions do apply of course, and no doubt all venues have capacity limits as well.

poster_001The 2014 Portobello Film Festival started last week and continues on until Sunday the 14th of September.  Events are held in venues around Portobello Road in the W11 area of west London.  Check the official website for more details.

If you will be attending The Coin screening please come back and let us know what you thought.  Friends of the site Tianna and Diane both wrote reports for KM UK of their experiences at local film festivals.  See them here and here respectively.

The Coin Hits Portobello, London

poster_001This one’s for the Brits and apologies for the comparatively short notice.

Last week director/writer/producer Fabien Martorell let it be known that his short film The Coin had been added as an official selection in the Portobello Film Festival.  Not surprisingly the event is based around London’s famous Portobello Road, in the even more famous Notting Hill area of the UK capital.

portobello_free_film_festival_poster_511x485The Hugh Grant/Julia Roberts rom-com Notting Hill was partly filmed there and gave a taste of second-hand clothes, books and antiques market stalls and shops that Portobello Road is best known for.

Fabien was, not surprisingly, keen to tell the world but, for what ever reason, the official website for the festival was more reluctant.  It was only last night that The Coin was added to updated lists of the various film programmes that will be on offer when the event opens later today (7pm, 28th Aug).  Note that the official programme (a downloadable PDF on the site) does not include The Coin, probably due to its late inclusion.

The short film starring Kathryn and Christopher Lloyd (Taxi) gets a screening on the 6th September at the Westbourne Studios (242 Acklam Road, W10 5JJ) in an 11 hour film programme starting at 12 noon under the title “French Films”.  Obviously The Coin‘s connection to France is Fabien himself.  If, and it is a big if, the mixed bag of short and long films were to be played in the order shown and the timings are correct then The Coin would make an appearance at around 3pm.

The Portobello Film Festival runs until the 14th of September.  More details can be found on the website here.

Any of you Londoners, or those in London, in the area the weekend after next?  If so, we love to hear about your experience.

The Perfect Guy Gets A Date?

The new thriller film The Perfect Guy which will see Kathryn returning to the big screen in a small role recently started filming around LA.  In our initial reporting of the news a release some time next year was expected.  Not really a surprise given the normal timing of these things..

Now we might be able to be a little more precise.  This is not confirmed and is far from official but a date of 19th June 2015 has been seen.  Even if that is the currently intended release date these things are always subject to change.

Another additional detail is the inclusion of child actor Duncan Joiner to the cast list on the film’s IMDb page.  As the character Kathryn is said to be playing, Karen, has been described as a mother of boys it is a reasonable assumption to make that Duncan, as “Zach”, could be one of her sons.

For more details on The Perfect Guy see the previous KM UK post here.

Paycheck – Thursday, BBC1

Paycheck_1080p_029It’s always nice when the paycheck arrives early :-)

The past few times that the BBC has shown the John Woo sci-fi action drama Paycheck it has been after a gap of around two years.  Xmas comes early on Thursday (21st Aug) as it has been only a little over one year since the last broadcast.  Whoo-hoo!  Or should that be Woo-hoo!  :-)

Auntie Beeb has been extra kind to us as they are also showing the film at the slightly earlier time of 23:35, which (as I always say) means you can see Kathryn’s memorably forgettable (or is it forgettably memorable?) performance and be done well before midnight.  She’s only in the opening section, but it is 10 minutes worth watching.  Those in Northern Ireland will have to wait until later on Friday night.  The BBC’s website has details of the broadcast.

Leading man Ben Affleck (Pearl Harbor) was earlier this year controversially announced as being the new Batman, with the first film with him in that role due for release in the summer of 2016.  By then it will be nearly 20 years since Ben and his writing/acting partner Matt Damon worked with the recently departed Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.  Robin won a Support Acting Oscar and the boys won a Screenplay Oscar for that one.

Not surprisingly Paycheck already features strongly in the KM UK Gallery with a comprehensive set of HD screencaps.  A more detailed description of Kathryn’s role in the film can be found in an earlier post here.

Just in case you have your memory wiped between now and the start of Paycheck (add 24.5 hours if you are in Northern Ireland) here is a countdown timer to remind you:

Kathryn Added To The Perfect Guy On IMDb

imdb_logo_100x100It’s a minor thing really but tradition dictates that I post this update.

In the past 24 hours Kathryn’s name was added to expanding cast list of The Perfect Guy on the go-to movie info website IMDb.  Anyone can submit changes to IMDb (which are moderated) but her name appearing there feels like a milestone, as though it makes it official.

Holt McCallany is another recently announced addition to the cast.  You may not know the name but you would probably recognise the face.  Holt has been in movies like Fight Club, Gangster Squad, and Three Kings; as well as recurring roles in TV shows like CSI: Miami, Lights Out, Heroes, and Golden Boy.  In The Perfect Guy Holt is said to be playing a police detective.

The Perfect Guy‘s IMDB page is here and will be added to the menus on the right of the site.
