The promised ‘two weeks from this coming Friday’ is nearly here.
The Mankato, Minnesota, based Speechless Film Festival, starts this in a few days.
The short film The Coin. which sees Kathryn star alongside Back To The Future actor Christopher Lloyd as the stressed mother of a young boy, will be screened at the Cine Grand venue on Friday at 7pm.
Buy the VIP Festival Pass and you could attend a special second presentation of the film on Saturday lunchtime, 1pm.
As part of the “Young Drama” selection, Fabien Martorell’s short will be sharing the bill with four other projects, mostly from the USA as well.
The SFF official website HERE has all the details.
The movie business gives with one hand and takes with the other. When one door opens another closes. Another such phrase about a good and bad thing happening.
Back in September 2014 the possible TV series The Protocol achieved the milestone of appearing on IMDb. I realise that this is not necessarily proof that a project is on the way to release but it always stuck me as a significant event in its life. The Protocol pilot/short was filmed during the Summer of 2013 by Johnny Messner’s production company and saw Kathryn take a small role.
A month later in an interview at the New York Comic Con the actress Xen Sia (or whatever her name is this week, it seems to change daily!) talked about the project. There were suggestions it was being pursued by multiple networks for development and broadcast.
After the news on Tuesday about 2 Br/1 Ba (now called Roommate Wanted) getting a release things seem to have taken a turn for the negative now.
Three weeks ago The Protocol‘s IMDb page disappeared. Initially it could have been a glitch but it has remained absent and also been removed from the various cast and crew’s pages. As it will all be linked together within the database that makes up the Db in IMDb this isn’t a suprise. It’s as though it never existed. Maybe it never did… spooky!
Will the results of the Summer 2013 labours ever see the light of day? Johnny?
The movie up to now known as 2Br/1Ba (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom; the description of an apartment) has undergone a name change to Roommate Wanted prior to its newly announced release date of the 19th of May.
The launch will be on DVD and video on demand service and will receive the US ‘R’ rating for content.
Here is the official press release from Lionsgate Home Entertainment:
Keep your friends close and your roommates closer when Roommate Wanted arrives on DVD (plus Digital), Digital HD and On Demand May 19th from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Starring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids franchise), Spencer Grammer (TV’s “Greek”), Kathryn Morris (TV’s “Cold Case”) and Richard Riehle (Transformers: Age of Extinction), it’s an all-out girl-war that ends with someone moving out for good. Roommate Wanted will be available on DVD for the suggested retail price of $19.98.
Janie is an ambitious student who dreams of a better life. Dee is a gorgeous socialite who dreams of a rich husband. They’re already not the best of friends…or the best of roommates. But when Janie gets the opportunity of a lifetime, Dee becomes the roommate from hell as she desperately tries to destroy Janie’s life.
We’ll keep you posted on any news regarding the rest of the world.
Above is a copy of the DVD box art. As you can see they are tapping into Alexa Vega’s high profile due to various recent movie and TV roles. A large version of the image and a logo graphic have been added to the Gallery.
Nearer the time KM UK will be bring you some exclusive content, just for you fans of Kathryn.
Normally with these little visits to past public appearances I generally try and make them seasonally relevant. The recent awards event photos posted within a few days of the most recent ceremonies. That kind of thing.
This update, however, has been triggered by the unearthing of a video in which Kathryn features. But that doesn’t mean we can’t also make it topical.
I’ll explain.
Moves are afoot to make a TV series based on the Tom Cruise-starring, Steven Spielberg-directed movie Minority Report. Kathryn, of course, had a small but crucial role as the estranged ex-wife of Tom Cruise’s crime preventer Chief John Anderton.
In the past few weeks there has been news about the casting of the Fox-ordered pilot due to be set 10 years after the film. Start Sands (Generation Kill), Meagan Good (Cold Case episode ‘Soul’) will play the leads as both twin male Pre-cogs (they can see the future) and a Precrime officer respectively. Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show) has recently been added to the cast as another police officer.
Links to the film are kept with Laura Regan (Mad Men) taking the Pre-cogs Agatha role as portrayed by Samantha Morton originally, and Daniel London actually reprising his part as Wally the caretaker.
Wouldn’t it be great if Kathryn’s Lara Clarke could also appear at some point as a way of linking back to John’s time in the Precrime unit and the events of the hit movie? Make it happen Hollywood!
Having not been included in the KM UK Gallery previously I have now added an album of various photos of Kathryn doing the red carpet walk in New York for the première of Minority Report. And, the video that triggered this post has also been added alongside the snapshots. Kathryn appears very briefly in middle of the clip answering a question about fate.
Two weeks from this coming Friday sees the start of the Speechless Film Festival, held in Mankato, Minnesota.
The screening schedule for the event has been released so we get to see when we can get to see Fabien Martorell’s short film The Coin.
7pm on the 20th at the Cine Grand is the first opportunity. For those with VIP Festival Passes, which entitle you see everything as well as getting access to some VIP lounges, there is a 2nd screening at Studio Six on the Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
