A CCCC-up is where I try and bring an update about the on-going careers of the stars of Cold Case that aren’t Kathryn. You may have noticed that I cover Kathryn’s work in greater detail in other posts on the site
Let’s start with the big man. The boss. Back in May John Finn (John Stillman in CC) filmed an Irish drama called An Bronntanas (previously mentioned here). The title translates as ‘the present’, as in gift. It was shot in Ireland and in Gaelic (the Irish language). The story revolves around the crew of a lifeboat working off the dangerous west coast of Ireland who find a dead woman and a huge stash of drugs on a boat. The show, if IMDb is to be believed, starts to air on the 28th of January next year. A date that means a lot to everyone on this site of course. Speaking of ‘believe’ John will be guest starring in at least one episode of an new upcoming drama series on the NBC network called Believe. The show is about a young girl with supernatural powers and an unlikely protector in the form of a death-row inmate broken out of prison especially for the job. The girl has supernatural powers which are growing stronger as she gets older. Her carers up till now have been a group known as the True Believers. The show’s creator, Alfonso Cuarón, has been in the media a lot recently because he produced/director/wrote a little movie starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney called Gravity. Despite that pedigree the programme was not picked up for the main fall/autumn season, but will air at some point in the new year. It has been a bit of rocky road to get here too, with original cast member Sienna Guillory (Luther) and showrunner/co-creator Mark Friedman leaving the production over the summer.
During the past couple of weeks CCCC-up stalwart Tracie Thoms (Kat Miller in CC) has been filming the new Annie movie in New York. I covered the project in some detail back in the October CCCC-up but to quickly recap Tracie and Dorian Missic will be Annie’s fake parents. Lots of other stars are involved in the film: Foxx, Diaz, Cannavale, Byrne, Knowles, Z, Akinnuoye-Agbaje (one of the bigger names). Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts Of The Southern Wild) plays orphan Annie.
Going a little off the reservation, it was recently announced that Scandi drama US re-make The Killing will be getting a 4th season. After two seasons on the AMC network the show was cancelled. It was resurrected for number three by a joint venture between AMC and über online video streaming service Netflix. The fourth sees Netflix going it alone. The other change is the show will be half the normal length with only 6 episodes. It will finally be killed though, as this will be the last season. Exec producer and writer Veena Sud (producer and writer on Cold Case) will be back at the helm of the show expected back on screens during 2014. Mireille Enos (Word War Z) is presumably returning as Sarah Linden aka Lilly in heavy knitwear
Let’s stretch the remit a little further shall we? Favourite, if that’s the word, Cold Case bad guy John Billingsley (killer George Marks in CC episodes Mind Hunters and The Woods, and Dr Phlox in Star Trek: Enterprise) is in the pilot/first episode of a new show called Intelligence. It is not clear if his role extends further than that. Like Believe (above) it is another of these ‘mid-season’ premières. It was originally due to start airing in late-February but has been brought forward to January 13th (a Monday) to replace the ending drama Hostages on the CBS network. Intelligence stars Josh Holloway (Sawyer on Lost), Marg Helgenberger (CSI: Las Vegas) and Meghan Ory (Once Upon A Time). The show looks a bit of a cross between Jake 2.0 and the lad from Alphas that could read WiFi signals. Josh plays an agent with a supercomputer brain. He needs protection and that’s where Agent Riley O’Neil (Ory) comes in.
