Happy Xmas!
Unlike the Queen of England’s annual address to the nation, this year’s KM UK Xmas Message will sadly not be in 3D. For shame.
Like many people in the world Kathryn’s fans faced another year of uncertainty, albeit for different reasons. Our austerity was due to the very real possibility of no Kathryn. No television series starring or produced by her made the 2011/2012 season. There was never any sign she was looking at such an acting role, and the lack of any news on the Princess Of Whales production did not bode well. By this time last year we knew that Kathryn would, at best, appear in a single deleted scene on the Moneyball DVD/Blu-ray. And, to cap it all the short film Sunday’s Mother had gone AWOL since a trailer was released in November 2011.
We managed to keep things going but it wasn’t until April that news broke that Sunday’s Mother would receive an official première screening at the Newport Beach Film Festival at the beginning of May. That revelation was followed a few days later by our favourite lady gracing an event with her presence in the first public appearance of 2012: the premiere of She Wants Me. The exact reason for her being there was never made clear… Kathryn only made couple of other appearances for the rest of the year.
Mayday. Mayday. Crew member missing. Kathryn did not attend the Sunday’s Mother première on the first of the month. Adding to the sadness the very next day we “celebrated” the two year anniversary of the final ever Cold Case episode airing in the US. Two whole years had gone by with a Kathryn-shaped hole on our small screens
At the very end of May some new news finally broke. Kathryn would not only be starring in, but would be the lead actor in a TV movie for the Hallmark Channel. The Sweeter Side Of Life (known as Confections Of A Discarded Woman at the time) started filming the very next week in Romania. Thanks to various cast and crew we even got some glimpses of Kathryn on set.
After filming completed on The Sweeter Side Of Life, though we still don’t know how the New York filming fitted into the schedule, and a possible year-long wait to see the results, things looked like they’d be quiet again on the KM front. Luckily for us the penny dropped. That is to say that news of Kathryn’s next project, another short film called The Coin, came out. Over the coming months information and images would emerge from both projects.
Next, news broke on a new feature film in which Kathryn would take a small but crucial role. That film was the oddly titled 2 Br/1 Ba (describing an apartment as having 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom). The initial premise sounds quite conventional but the on set photographs involving the two leads make it look anything but normal.
KM UK has been lucky enough to be in direct contact with key cast and crew members from all of Kathryn’s projects we’ve discussed this year (Sunday’s Mother, The Sweeter Side Of Life, The Coin and 2 Br/1 Ba). Plus, we met the talented and generous Sunny Promyotin. It has been gratifying and very interesting to be that close to coal face. This has resulted in having access to key information and exclusive photos and videos. Only the best for our readers.
Just as we thought things would quieten down for the holiday period suddenly The Coin and The Sweeter Side Of Life info was coming out all over the place. We had an initial small promo photo and a definite première date for The Sweeter Side Of Life, followed by a trailer and lots more photos. And in the last few days we get a trailer for The Coin.
With The Coin likely to be on the festival circuit, The Sweeter Side Of Life premièring in mid-January and 2 Br/1 Ba also due for release that month, the beginning of 2013 is going to be busy for us. Let’s hope that Kathryn picks up more new projects in the new year. You can be sure that KM UK will do it’s best to bring all the news.
All this new stuff didn’t stop us looking back at Kathryn’s earlier work with new screencaps covering the whole of season 1 of Cold Case and our first ever sight of less than stellar Paper Dragons.
Unfortunately there is a darker side to fandom. Fakes. We had to deal with a few in 2012. Quite why these, for want of a better word, people feel the need to do this is beyond me. It’s very disrespectful to all Kathryn’s real fans and the lady herself. We look forward to a fake-free 2013.
Thank you to everyone that contributed to KM UK in 2012. That includes all our readers; those that sent us info and fan art, posted comments etc.; and those cast and crew members mentioned earlier. Please stay with us as we head into 2013.
Happy Xmas/Holidays/Tuesday and Happy New Year to all of you.
