KM UK Awards 2011

RichE Award StatuetteFirst!

The Oscars is the biggest awards show there is, period. In recent years the BAFTAs has deliberately been moved to happen before the American Academy’s awards so as not be seen to be playing second fiddle to them.  But here at KM UK we get the last laugh.  They both publish their schedules far in advance so we can nip in and hold our ceremony first! :-)

Ladies and gentlemen, for your reading pleasure, may I present to you the Kathryn Morris UK Awards 2011.  We take a look back at the events of 2010 to recognise the highs and lows of the year, all from the perspective of a fan of the amazing actress and all round wonderful person Kathryn Morris.  Who or what will win the coveted ‘RichE’ (named after it’s creator, ME!) statues this year?

Those expecting a Ricky Gervais-style roasting of celebrities (did the Golden Globes organisers really expect anything different when they hired him?) will likely be disappointed but hopefully we’ll have a few laughs along the way.

Without further ado, the do…

Welcome to the 2nd Annual ‘RichE’ Awards brought to you by Kathryn Morris UK.

We’ll have none of the messing about from last year.  You should know the drill with these award ceremonies by now, you’ve watched enough of them.  Sit down.  Shut up.  Applaud as appropriate.  Laugh at the hosts weak attempts at humour.  Be quick about getting to the stage to accept your award.  Keep the acceptance speeches short (I’m looking at you Gwyneth!) and then get off quickly.  No dawdling about chatting to the presenter!  :-)

Let us begin.

Best Actress

We start off again this year with the obvious one: Best Actress. And the winner is… Kathryn Morris. No surprise there. By the 2012 RichEs we hope to see more proof of the undoubted talent. However, if Kathryn wins again next year we may have to retire the category for good :-)

Most Entertaining
TV Show
Award

Next up we have the award for The Most Entertaining TV Show.  And the winner is… Castle. I was a late-comer to the Castle ball but soon caught up. Bones, last year’s winner, is done with a lighter touch than most procedurals but Castle takes it a step further, but it’s not a comedy. There is so much that’s good about this show: the cases, the set-ups, Richard Castle’s quips, references to actor Nathan Fillion’s previous work (such as Firefly), the Beckett-Castle back-and-forth to name but a few.  Fillion is always worth watching and the new-to-me Stana Katic (Detective Kate Beckett) plays off him brilliantly, plus she’s very swoon-some 😉 Even the name ‘Richard Castle’ has a certain appeal 😕  All of which makes the show a very worthy winner tonight.  Kathryn needs to do a guest spot on a future episode of Castle.   She should be a new actress, called Riley Lush, playing Nikki Heat in the film or TV adaptation of Richard Castle’s book.  It would make a fun contrast to Cold Case. See what I did there? Oh, never mind :-(

Best Film
Starring
Kathryn Morris
Award

Last time out this category was fit to bursting with movies released during 2009 in comparison to this year. For those keeping score: 2009 films, one; 2010 films, none. Well… no films were officially released.   So we have no option but to give the award to that film… the one that got released… sort of 😉  I forget it’s name, and we probably shouldn’t mention it anyway, but congratulations to those responsible.

The
Nurse Platt
Award

We’ve decided to keep this award for 2011 but with a twist.  It was named after the Kathryn’s character in the movie Assassination Of A High School President and given for Best Actress Starring As A Healthcare (Un)Professional. This year it is recognising Services To Stockings, in honour of Nurse Platt’s devastating use of hosiery. And the award goes to… Kathryn Morris and her scene stealing fishnets in the film we can’t talk about (FWCTA) :-)

Best
Special Effect
Award

arrivals_003Previously known as the Best Makeup Award this is the first of our awards for technical achievement.  This year’s winner had such an overall impact that went beyond just ‘makeup’ we had to expand the scope of the award.

The past 12 months or so have been dominated by blue things. Avatar cost billions and billions of dollars and took almost no money at all. Why was it such a disaster? I’m glad you asked that. I’ll tell you: not enough brown, or at least the wrong sort of brown.

Forget movie magic. Mix just enough blue (not too much) with just the right shade of brown, throw some blonde on top (and a tiny bit of grey at the feet) and you get photographic magic.

Yes, this year’s winner of the Best Special Effect ‘RichE’ is makeup artist extraordinaire CarleneK for the amazing effect she helped achieve with Kathryn at the Environmental Media Association Awards.  Carlene’s Shine Bronzer product, in combination with that dress and those shoes, and Kathryn of course making it such a lovely shape.  WOW!   It had a truly special effect. See what I did there?  No?  Really? :-(

Best
Costume
Award

To follow the tradition established last year we are going to keep this category open only to Kathryn’s public appearances from the year: all the premières, awards and charity events.  It was a bit of a lean year for Kathryn appearing in front of the paparazzi and most of the times that she was she was wearing relatively casual clothes, which is fine by me as she looks lovely dressed in just jeans and a “t”. This does mean, however, that we don’t have a large selection of outfits to choose from. But choose we must, so here are the 3 nominees vying for the 2011 Best Costume Award RichE: The People’s Choice Awards, Jack Goes Boating Première and the Environmental Media Association Awards.

A tough choice, or at least it would be if it wasn’t for that little blue dress. It beats the big blue/black dress and the little black dress by some margin.  Proof that less can be more 😉

The award goes to… the Environmental Media Association Awards dress.

Word
Costume
Award

018This has to be one of the most difficult categories to call this year as there have been no real stand-out bad outfits. As I said before Kathryn tends to have appeared in more casual-looking clothes at most of the events she attended this year.  I have to pick a winner though and I’m sure many of you will disagree with me on this one.The winner is (as you’ve already seen on the right) is the Women In Entertainment Breakfast shirt and trousers (that’s ‘pants’ to our American cousins :-) ) combo.  Don’t get me wrong there is much to like about it but it doesn’t quite work for me.  Maybe if I saw the ensemble from all angles I’d have a change of heart (those pants are so very tight 😉 ).  It is not bad, just the least good of the set.  On the plus side the included smiles were wonderful to behold.

Surprise
Appearance
Award

I’ll just say it involves a certain FWCTA and the Internet and leave it at that 😉

Least Surprising
News
Award

There can only be entry in this new category so let’s not beat around the bush (is that ever an option?) and declare the winner: The cancellation/non-renewal of Cold Case.  It had been on the cards for a couple of seasons so as upsetting as it was to realise that it was really happening, it was no great surprise.

Most Surprising
News
Award

Initially this only had one nominee, the corollary to the previous award. As expected as the cancellation/non-renewal of Cold Case was it was still quite shocking to have it confirmed. Three other events have put that one in the shade though:

  • The announcement of Kathryn securing one of the most coveted roles there is: ‘wife of Brad Pitt.’ Personally I don’t see the appeal myself.  ‘Husband of Kathryn’ sounds far better :-)
  • Kathryn herself announcing on a national television chat that she is dating someone new.
  • Finding out the most likely candidate for the position of “luckiest man alive” at the premieré of The Walking Dead TV show.

And the winner is…. the Wendy Williams Show announcement about a new beau. It just came out of no where and blind sided us. See what I did there with the American sports movie reference? Kathryn will be starring in a sports movie (Moneyball), written by the same man.  No?  Again?  Come on!  Work with me here!

(Possible) Luckiest Man Alive
Award

You can’t actually win a ‘possible’ award so there is no point even going any further with nominees etc.  If it had gone ahead as initially planned the winner would (possibly) have been Johnny Messner.  Sorry Johnny.  So close.  I’m gutted for you.  I’m sure you’ll get over it somehow.  As a last minute stand-in award we will give the runner-up prize of 2nd Luckiest Man Of 2010 Award to our youngest recipient yet: Master Kyle Gallner for a scene or two in the FWCTA.  Sorry Kyle.  You were so close.  B*****d! 😡

Best
Supporting
Actor
Award

Next, we get to inaugurate a new category for this year: Best Supporting Actor.  Could it be Danny Pino for his role in the final episodes of the final season of Cold Case? I know he’d be a popular choice with many of you.  Nope.  It’s not him.  Sorry ladies.  Could it be Kyle ‘The B*****d!’ Gallner from the FWCTA?  Young whipper snapper!  He’s already won a silver statuette this evening so it won’t be him.  No, this one goes to Johnny Messner for his work on screen, and (possibly) off, with Kathryn.  Congratulations mate!  I’m so happy for you (what’s the emoticon for gritted teeth?).

Best Supporting Actress

The film we can’t talk about has a veritable smorgasbord of potential Supporting Actresses to choose from: Denise Richards and my fellow Brit Rebecca Mader amongst them.  They’re good but they aren’t ‘the best.’The recipient of this award is well known to you all. She (it is a she :-) ) is multi-talented.  She can sing and dance as well as act.  She’s a star of the stage and screen, and is due to be seen in several upcoming movies and TV shows.  She’s a great Twitter-ertoo.  She’s been a ‘supporting actress’ in the normal awards sense and she’s ‘the best’ in every sense making her an ideal winner.  Tracie Thoms is the KM UK Best Supporting Actress of 2011 award winner!  Woooh!  You go girl!  (I can’t carry that off can I?) 😕

Greatest
Smile
Award

This has to be everybody’s favourite category.  How can you not love even the idea of the most beautiful woman there is smiling.  And we all know that smiling is Kathryn’s USP.  It just doesn’t get any better than that.  As per last year we will only be taking smiles seen at public events in the past 12 months into account.  These are our 4 nominees up for the 2011 ‘RichE’:

It gets harder with every look but we have to stay firm and come to a conclusion.  In truth every single one is a winner, except for the last three, because this one is the best of the best:

Gorgeous

Contribution
To KM UK
Award

This is such a difficult category to choose a winner for.  Many people, known and unknown have contributed to this site in 2010 in make it the success it is today.  Whether it be tip offs to some Kathryn-related news, comments, or images a lot of people take the time and effort to get involved.  I thank you all for that.  As much as I’d like to name an individual I’m not going to do that.  Instead this goes to all the great people that have helped me in so many different ways.  You are all great.  Yeah, yeah.  I chickened out 😯 No, I’ve changed my mind, I’m going to pick someone whom without this site would just be… err… UK:

Kathryn

For the second year running Kathryn couldn’t/wouldn’t be here to accept her awards.  Is it something I said?  Fingers crossed for next year.  Perhaps by then we’ll be looking forward to her receiving some genuine awards.

None of the other recipients turned up either.  Do they need to be told to attend or do these Hollywood-types just ‘know’?  Do they just sense the opening of a golden envelope? :-)

You’ve probably agreed with a few of my choices.  You’ve probably disagreed with a few too.  And you’re probably baffled by the rest.  Hopefully you laughed a few times.  Or maybe not :-)  Feel free to suggest your own winners and losers in these or your own categories in the comments.

Same time, same place next year?

Now get orf my land! :-)
