This is very much in the category of “it’s been in the Gallery for ages but I’ve never written about it.”
What we have here in Sleepstalker, a flick from 1995, is a pretty typical “horror” movie. It’s not exactly one of the Saw franchise. It’s the sort of film that gets pumped out by the hundred and will often feature a star of the future. Almost as many careers have ended right there as the body count in such films. This one, however, marks our favourite lady’s first real leading feature film role.
The plot is basically: evil guy/thing slaughters a whole family except for a young boy, evil guy is sentenced to death, the priest attending the execution is not all that he seems and aids evil’s escape. Years later the evil tracks down the boy, now an adult, to finish the job. Hilarity ensues.
Kathryn plays Megan, a friend of the main character. She is in the movie for much of its duration and gets to do lots of running around and some gun wielding (see above). It does have one very notable scene for Kathryn: a shower scene. Notable for all the wrong reasons In a discussion about this movie over on Look Again years ago I was moved to use the phrase “Most. Disappointing. Shower scene. Ever.”
The outfit (a heavy red shirt and appropriately brown trousers) is hardly flattering to our petite heroine. The short red hair is a bit of a departure too, perhaps a way of disguising the actor’s true identity for the sake of future work Most actors have a film or two like this in their past. Kathryn is no different in that respect (but so much more in others 😉 ). It all goes to make up the rich tapestry of work that she has done, making her the phenomenal actress she is today.
So to sum up. A far from good horror film that’s worth a look for obvious reasons.
A small collection of screencaps is, and always has been, in the Gallery.
OMG, this was the worst movie ever!! I had to resort to fast-forwarding to the scenes with K and skipping over the rest as I could feel my brain cells dying and my viewing integrity being tortured to death.
However, I didn’t miss a single appearance by Kathryn. Credit to her for not rolling her eyes throughout.
I have to agree with Michelle, about it being the worst movie ever. Yet one wonders why she even was in it, but it all lead up to bigger and better things
“Hilarity ensues.”
BAHAHA. 😀
Now I NEED to watch this movie. A friend of mine and I have this semi-accidental way of watching the most horrible movies together. Ahaha. 😀
@Lolly- Try the Syfy channel, that’s the channel where the movie is normally played on.
Thank you, dear. 😀
I’ll be sure to check it out!
@Lolly- They don’t show it a lot, but I hope you are able to see it
